  1. lucy, after being back at obedience for 4 classes after a few years break, had an exam tonight to go up to level 3... she passed even tho she wasn't greatly behaved and didn't do things as well as normal!! we were in level 3 before we stopped obedience, but coz it's been 2 or 3 years since then, i thought it might be good to go back, but it took her a matter of minutes to get back into the swing of things...
  2. went along tonight mrs d. lorraine assessed us really quick and put us in group 2. i think maybe tho i could be in group 3, but i don't mind staying in group 2 to refresh her memory. will see you next week!
  3. No, doubt if it will be on unless it stops before lunchtime, they always get alot more rain down there than us - I saw on the BOM site that Ormiston got 102mm or about 4 inches . Also being a sporting oval the area is very flat & water pools on the surface after only a little rain, so it looks like it will be next week now. damn lol i finished work at 3 to get home in time lol cause i was going to have to take my parents to the gym on the way, now they said they're not going, plus i would of had to leave at 3.30 to get the bus home in time by 5, and dad finished work at 3 and works in the same area i am at the moment so i got a lift with him. so i should just show up next week instead? do i bring lucy next week? yeah i tried lure coursing with her once. she was too chicken and would only chase the lure if i was chasing her, she kept stopping to make sure she wasn't too far away from me and the first time i was too far away she ran back to me!! lol she's not a very confident dog!
  4. is it still on if it keeps raining like it is?
  5. origin is next week. i thought it was this week and was about to make plans lol then i read the tv guide and it's not on lol who do i find when i get there?
  6. mrs d i might be there on wednesday night. just trying to sort out the car issue as my parents normally go to the gym on a wednesday night. keep an eye out for me and lucy
  7. sounds like something lucy would LOVE!! she absolutely loves playing fetch and was always a natural at it! she always brings it back to me and would play all day if she could. i practiced similar with tennis balls getting her to catch it before it touches the ground, making the distance longer and longer.
  8. will do indeed lol will make sure i come say hi!
  9. yup i just read that on their website. looking at what each level class does, we were doing stuff out of levels 3 and 4. wouldn't mind starting at level 1 and working up tho cause then we can get ribbons lol plus she probably needs to relearn some things anyway
  10. sounds good. looks like i might be able to start up in june as i'll be back in may some time.
  11. as i was doing advanced obedience with lucy a while ago, would they assess us and put us in the right level? she's not so good at heeling, but generally good at the rest of the stuff. (mind you, if my parents haven't been working with her on stuff at all, then she's probably crap now lol)
  12. mrs d, martin and i broke up a couple of weeks ago so i will be back in bris within a month i think (depends on if dad can get me on mum's flight home or not) out of those clubs you listed mrs d, redlands would probably be closest i think. do they charge much for classes? (am not wanting to go back to rspca, cause i need a check chain on lucy, not for teaching the obedience stuff, but for her agression. was the only thing that stopped it as i can now socialise her on a flat collar!!) thanks for the links borda, what's involved in frisbee?
  13. as i'll be heading back to aus shortly, i'd like to get involved in dog sports more with lucy. i did a little agility with her (at the rspca) and she absolutely loved it so wouldn't mind starting that again with her, but would like to find somewhere closer to home that's cheaper that will also cater for her. she has bad hips, so can't do full height jumps (well she probably could and would, but i don't want her injured) so would just like to train using smallest height jumps which i know she can cope with physically. which also means i know we can't compete (which i would of loved to have done with her as she was a natural at most of the equipment) i'm located in camp hill, which is near carindale. i'm also interested in finding an obedience club nearby, and maybe some other doggy sports. i don't have a car anymore, but my parents would probably lend me their car for these things until i can buy my own but would prefer not to travel too far.
  14. sorry to hear this news. i think we were all hoping jet would be her miracle cure. maybe he was an angel of a different sort. he wasn't meant to cure page, but he was meant to help her family cope with her loss when the time came.
  15. do groomers clip nails? if so, how about taking him to one rather than the vet? my mum does our dogs, both have black nails my guinea pigs one has all white nails the other has one paw that is black and the rest white, i always get paranoid cutting the black paw as they freak out when i cut their nails in the first place.
  16. i don't feed barf to my dogs, they get quality dry food (not supermarket stuff) and scraps of what we eat after we eat. they too are healthy and only go to the vets for vaccinations and accidents.
  17. flat collar for normal walks with lucy (as long as i just take her) coz she doesn't pull when just us go walking, but she does like to walk ahead, just doesn't drag me. mum walks them both on flat i think, but when lucy is with maddie she pulls to walk beside maddie coz maddie pulls. i can't stand them pulling so i don't walk maddie.
  18. my dog at 13 months went on cartrophen (spelling) and sasha's blend they seem to be working pretty well was 1 injection every week for 4 weeks then 6 monthly for 18months and then yearly. if i notice her "slowing" down (looking like her hips are causing her discomfort) i take her earlier. started 1 yr ago this month, she had the 1st 6 montly one in december, a month or two earlier than she should of, but she was due the other week for hte next one but isn't showing any signs of slowing down at the moment, and she'll get it again in the next few weeks. just gota wait til i can get a day off (prolly the week before i leave) as the vet that treats her for HD is on the other side of brisbane so hard for me to get to. i will take her sooner if i think she needs it tho.
  19. this will probably sound harsh, and i don't mean it that bad, but i think my aunt should of let go sooner. i know it's a tuff decision to make, but this dog over the last few years, lost almost all her teeth, went blind and deaf, was on lots of medications for various things and had bad athritis. it hurt me every time i saw this dog who's suffering should of ended a while ago. my aunt just didn't want to let go and did everything she could to keep her comfortable for as long as possible. but it still hurt me to see this dog who had gone so downhill so quick. (whole family thinks she should of let go earlier, but noone could convince her it was for the best i'm just glad she finally realised and that ewok's in a better place)
  20. My aunt and uncle just came round. Yesterday my aunt's dog of about 18 years back legs gave up on her and she rushed her to the vets for tests to see if there was anything she could do for her. Poor little wokkie. This time nothing could be done and she was pts today wokkie was a shih tzu x maltese (before it became fashionable). I just thank god my aunt finally decided it was time coz of all the problems this pup has had over the last few years. Thank god lil wokkie is at peace finally!
  21. we were teaching her to go outside from word go, but she just wouldn't learn (only thing she didn't pick up super quick) the wee pads/newspaper inside were for when she'd sneak off and do it without us catching her. even then she wouldn't use them tho. she just basically refused to be toilet trained me thinks. nothing worked. even now at 2 years of age she still goes inside during the night as she can't hang on for a bit less than 8 hours (either that or the other dog is becoming incontinent in her old age, hard to tell) but now she'll at least wee on the newspaper, but won't poo on it. where they sleep is under the house (enclosed) with a concrete floor so easy to scrub and disinfect.
  22. my lucy was one who wouldn't use them ;) was not happy with toilet training her. took months! (about 3) to get her to go outside whenever she needed to go! (didn't have this problem with maddie. took maddie a week or 2)
