If you have a bad flea issue once a month wont work . You need to treat your house, spray the yard & basically figure out hwere the offending area is or what the offending issue is.

Then i would use a "shoe" thats her own as a starter. Personally i use anything that works for my dogs . I would use the shoe as her reward for walking on the leash & making a game at the end & go from there

Argh but when we had a breed that suffered from CT & you couldnt feed a certain brand of food every vet we went a did a test with all insisted that food was the best for our breed. Not one was aware that feeding that brand to a CT suffer would kill them in 10 days. Very few even asked us what breed we had . It really seems us humans are better at doing our own research & going from there. I would write a letter to that pet store explaining what happened when you went in making an inquiry. -
yep taping is the best option because the muscle can strengthen in that position resulting in permanent flying ears. providing that sat correctly from day 1. If it has always been a flying ear it may bea case of the ear fold not being correct but teething does horrid things

"How do I go about giving a dog metamucil?" Just sprinkle on there food. Alot of diabetic dogs are given it as i believe it helps slow the pfood processing through so it works better. i do now there are warning labels on this product with humans in regards to heart & something else i think it is9Just make sure your dog doesnt suffer from any of the warnings parts on the back)

As i say buy a fluffy toy,she may feel more comfy with that. Even use the empty toilet roll. my dogs dislike like the smell of new balls & tend not to want them especially the cheapie ones. my young dog is ball obessessed,if he could fit 20 in he would. My others sort of play but lose interest quickly BUT will fetch there soft toys for hours, especially ones that squeak.

"That the vial between Advantage and Advantix could be completely different rather than exactly the same." I think this is a great point & maybe people should email the companies saying they would prefer a more defined vial between cats/dogs. -
"Wow, thanks for all the replies. settrlvr, I see you have very strong views and I get the feeling that you are almost angry at me.....:S I don't force her to do anything, esp if shes scared!. Yes i do have strong views because its been one day not a month,2 months or 3 .One day in a new home with new expectations & she cant meet then all over night. Be patient, she doesnt understand what you want & it will take time for her to learn. I have seen to many people get an older dog & the next just go off presuming its older it should do this/that. Dogs are just like humans & a whole new life change can be very overwhelming & traumatic & as humans we now whats its like to be rushed into something we dont feel comfy with ,dogs are the same. I have taking many older dogs on especially showdogs but each one has been given the time it needs to acclimatize . My current one arrived at 5 months ,he is now 9 months & whilst extremely happy & easy going i can safely say he has just now fully settled into our home routine & understands what our house rules are,all the members, our feeding routines, cars, voice tones, body language & actions. He is avery bright dog who craves to learn but he also needed to now he could rely on us to be his leader. This was very well socialized & had alot of time spent on him before he flew here but even so that doesnt equate to instant dog.

Just sounds like vets wanting the alternative market stopped so you can only buy from them. I see nothing wrong with making people more aware but people really need to take more care & read the companies fact sheets. -
I think giving the dog a chance would be a good start. Its been one day & you already have expectations that are unreasonable at this time. Ofcourse the dog can exercise without playing ball & she isnt going to damage herself by not doing exercise. I wouldnt be expecting anything from this young dog for a month or more. Her time at present should be trusting you & getting to now the yard.,all the humans, her new routine. I personally wouldnt even be pushing the lead aspect , Over rushing it can result in giant backward steps. You need to be patient & allow the dog to feel at home not you wanting her to something she isnt ready to do. The more you make her want to play ball the more she will react to your body language. If your body language is one of :why wont you chase the ball" dogs will sense this & not feel comfy in responding. balls arent the be all end to all dogs. She may prefer a fluffy Teddy

Balancing English Cocker Spaniel + Work
Dogsfevr replied to wish_4_cockerspaniel's topic in Puppy Chat
Th reality is you dont need dog walkers & daycare. Dogs adapt very well BUT if you suddenly no longer do daycare & things as such it is often harder for the dog to cope,The idea of using the services is to not allow them to be board/lonely but there comes a time in a dogs life where it needs to learn how to live happily on its on without getting separation anxiety/barking or becoming destructive. Form the day pup comes home you need to stick to a plan that isnt confusing/spoiling or over doing it. Treating pup as a dog from day 1 is the best thing you can do & the best way your little one will cope . Dogs treated as dogs thrive & settle & adjust very easily. They feel they are respected & now where they fit in the chain. -
Are you using it correctly. They shouldnt damage the coat if used correctly & you have the right # for the job. I dont use them on the showdogs as i prefer the finish of other strippers & my fingers but we use them all the time in the salon & never cut the coats
-
Just stick to your routine & it will learn. You could also consider taking the pen outside & allowing pup to go inthe pen so it gets started & wean it away.

As already said reg breeders health test.In your case neither parents where heart tested,hip/elbow scored.DNA for DM You may be blesssed with a healthy dog BUT as already said when people keep buying they breed without doing whats best for the people taking on these pups. Its not a case of people not trying any ethical breeder only breeds when they need pups, not for demand. They dont just breed because they can We have a 2 yr waiting list for our dogs We have plenty of fly by nights who have ruined our breed & brought heart ache to many families. One question did you contact your breeders for advice with the issues at first??

Operation For Tear Stain Solution.
Dogsfevr replied to moggy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
basically after visiting the eye specialist & doing all the tests etc etc it was determined hers wheer so bad thery needed to re create. The used false tubing & redirected it to flow out of her nose. She was actually one of the first dogs in oz to have this procedure nearly 27 yrs ago. Worked a treat & no issues after words. If you havent seen an specialist as yet do so & ask on DOL for recommendations .Even if your vet uses someone the show dog folk deall without of eye specialists to get there dogs yearly eye clearances etcetc & we often now the bad ones & the good ones -
Operation For Tear Stain Solution.

Our first dog had to have her tear ducts re created . -
we have an oldfield stand which is more powerful than the Liberty BUT i find it too powerful for the setters coats & then hose is forever coming off.To the point i havent used ours for nearly a year.It drove me crazy re attaching the hose or trying to wrap to stay.He gets too hot & melts the hose each time. I have the oldfield super barrel & its great . I prefer the lower power when drying & found the odfild so powerful it really made a mess of the coat if your not offay with drying.Alos felt it made it dry to quick & didnt have the same finish as the less powerful Liberty.Thats in our breeds only

No I Did Have An Appointment Booked In For Today
Dogsfevr replied to OhMarley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
yep the 10 calls a day & then the abuse. It isnt that hard to make an appointment early & right down in the diary or calendar . Sadly many people treat our jobs like its slum work & feel what they say goes at this time of the year. I especially love the but my dog is desperate.Yep it was desperate 2-3 months ago yet that dint worry them. All our clients where told & pre booked for xmas in July.If they didnt book in then we didnt squeeze in. We had 38 degress on sunday ,the phone went all day sunday & monday was tragic -
The front certainly isnt desired. I would dare say either breeding from parents with poor fronts, bad diet as a youngster(though more inclined to go with breeding) We groom stacks of malts crosses with that front & worse & not one has needed surgery although i would suggest placing the dog on Glucomisine or similar . Although a vet visit would atleast rule out any unknown factors. I would even seek out a good bowen or doggy chiro to take him too
-
yep first sign off odd gait i would be at the vets or chiro asap
-
9pm can be early for a pup. You need to set your alarm to go off at a time & stick with it . Ours are crated trained but also have the doggy door 24/7
-
Also make sure the last meal isnt to late giving your pup has issues at the moment.

Does Anyone Have A Dog With Addison's Disease?
Dogsfevr replied to Scarlettsmum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A dog we breed got Addisons. She lived a great life passing at 15 yrs. She was on 8 Fl & i pred every second day. -
Some of our older bitches have been given it but usually one dose to cover the few hrs afterwards. Its a drug i would never use like lollies especially as some breeds like Labs etc etc are well known for having the worse reactions. I have this year used it on my boy who was suffering. It was a very mild dose & not long term & did the job that was needed .We use as much natural alternatives as possible he just needed a tad more help.

Spaying - When Is The Best Time To Do It?
Dogsfevr replied to Golden Rules's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It can be as time consuming as you want it to be & as expensive as you want it to be. I cant remember the last time a Norwich was shown in WA,there have been Norfolks & i handled one of those for my friends. I would gather it is most likely trained for the show ring already which would make things easier but it really comes down to whether or want to join the CAWA & have that expense part of it. As a side not it only takes 17 shows to become a champ The age that your little one arrives means it eligible for points . The main consuming part will be the coat but it depends on how you plan to to do it as a pet?
