The only safe way is to have sep areas. Your chooks can roam in a well fenced area & all live happily ever after

Remember this is a lab .A water dog, spraying a lab in the face is like inviting it to have a party if your expecting a different result. "I disagree with settrlvr and wouldn't allow one of my dogs to put their mouth around any person, regardless of breed" We can agree to disagree but given my dogs dont have any social issues & are handled by juniors in the show ring,on display every weekend at shows, royal show & agi shows where the very young to old touch & have photos i can safely say my dogs behaviour is AI . My eldest sat happily with my 93 yr old grandfather .My dogs now whats expected & what the social rules are. Every tom, dick & harry at shows have happily held my dogs & will happily hold them again. I deal with dogs every day, people who have used some of these methods with no success at all because they have lost the simple common sense approach & ended up so confused they give up. people give up because it ends up so technical We have no issues with these same dogs because we are patient, consistent & stick to simple rewards & expectations for age. Labs are often the worse,The owners have made it into a war & the dogs have one. My dogs are allowed to mouth me on my terms, there gundogs & im happy to accept that i own a breed that is mouthy & i will not punish them for something that is natural but i will happily train them to a happy compromise.

Hes 10 weeks old & a gundog.A very mouthy breed by nature.Be patient . It sounds like he has no clue what you want .in 2 weeks you have tried all those methods but the pup doesnt now why You have to be consistent & stick your routine. Im not a believer of holding the muzzle of a teething pup nor flipping them.It achieves nothing but more frustration & pain for the dog. Your probably expecting the pup to understand more than it knows & that is where the frustration always starts & at this time your body language becomes a game for the dog. I have gundogs.they are all mouthy till the day they die.It doesnt worry me because you cant change what there meant to do BUT you can educate them to be gentle. My current youngster has progressed from being a tad hard to a gentle carry,he will walk my hand around anywhere when i allow it,he also understands that no means no but he is just 9months. My nearly 9 yr also carries my arm around or anything that i allow .. I think you need to go back to basics & work on small steps so the dog understands.if it is getting really over the top then use the crate,i do.The key is placing pup in not for discipline but simply to "settle". Mine will happily hope in & curl up for which they are rewarded for that behaviour. Also consider any cross signals given ,you cant allow one thing but not allow another ,pups understand yes quickly because it gets a response but when confused will either play up more because again it gets a response even if not desirable . Obviously there is a set time that you know this will happen so be pre armed.Have food/toy reward ready & use this "excitement" stage as a quick training session

"If she gets extra food during the day (chicken wing/ treats/ scraps) then the next meal is less as I know she won't want as much to eat." If your dog is being picky & not in a set eating pattern then treats & scrapes are a no go.Treats are solely for training/reward. The more treats/scraps she gets from humans the more inclined she will be to seek them out for something better than whats in her bowl. Feeding time needs to be that eat it or lose it.I would be placing her in an area that is less stimulating because at present she is getting into a routine of fun .She is getting a reaction to her behavior which she feels is normal. If she loses some weight it wont be the end of the world but its important for all family members to stick to the training regime. If your picking the bowl up to give latter no one can give her treats. There is no point taking her bowl away if everyone gives her a bit her & there, She needs to learn that her meals are in her bowl & feed time is that.Whilst she is still only a pup this is the age for setting a good feeding routine for life. In our house all food is eating in like 10 secs ,its hoover heaven . You also need to consider she is teething so her gums could be sore which can play havoc with wanting to eat BUT even so she can stil learn that meal time isnt a game. Does she leave tthe bowl if there is a certain food in it than others?? For example does she eat the sardines or tend to not want them??

Optimmune Eye Ointment For Dry Eye
Dogsfevr replied to doggiedo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
yep our eye specialist also says use human dry eye drops once a confirmation of the problem has been done.At first we use the medicated stuff but once controlled we use viscose gel .the gel is better as it lasts longer in the eye. A good eye specialist is very open minded -
The protein is actually the same as most other brands . The only one for large breeds with a lower protein level that is easy to source is EP.The selects is higher in protein

How To Get A Staffy Pup To Rest A Torn Muscle
Dogsfevr replied to Timrigg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This is exactly why all daogs should learn to be crate trained I also agree with staff n Toller ,find a good phsyio because rest wont cure all. -
He has no coat to clip off. Dogs will feel the heat coat or not. Some just feel it more like humans. As your boy has a black saddle he will absorb the heat a tad more but that will happen short aswell. Just keep brushing As long as the dog is a good weight, has good shade facilities, plenty off water then all will be fine. I have very hairy dogs & they do very well in summer .
-
No issues at all. can turn some white dogs orange but in summer we will buy a bag of horse carrots & use them on hot days .hand them out after being in the fridge.\The dogs generally poop chunks of carrot out the other end. Great for the teeth & alot less messier than bones & safer too

"OH currently has a method where he stands at the door, and every time he barks (pup, not OH !) OH will open the door and scold him for barking" This is a form of teasing & confusion for the pup. He is 9 weeks old & looking for confidence & reinforcement for what is right & wrong. OH standing there & expecting pup not to react is pointless & he himself has taught the pup to behave in a manner that long term isn't wanted. He may get frustrated but its his own fault. All the pup nows at present is the door is shut, human is on the other side & it cant get in,some pups panic slightly & whine for a reaction. How humans react can make or break the ease of long term training . All our pups have a whinge when things change, its normal & after a few days of consistent training & pattern pup soon understands that you have trust in puppy & it can happily go off & wonder. Also consider how the dog is being placed outside for independentance,is it low fuss, quiet ,calm No big deal, turfed out or the door shut when pup goes off to wonder on it own. I dare say the pup has only been home a week.It has lost its litter mates ,its mum & all things its new as "home". Pup is now learning what his new "home" is & what everyone expects. Pup will going through total overload of different things & a week is a very short space BUT you OH also needs to understand pups learn from what we do.If we do this that are confusing pup will react to that .

Okay i use proplan . I have used the selects adult turkey & barley & had to stop as my dogs where drinking so much water it wasnt funny. I had won an big supply at a show so no biggie on the cost ,the dog loved it BUT i have a breed prone to bloat & the edrinking was a big issue. I will say i didnt have the same issues with the puppy turkey & barly & was using it on a young pup when i travelled east as he enjoyed it ,although this same dog is back on eagle pack holistic at present .I do plan to switch him once fully grown to the salmon. I have for many years now feed the prop plan salmon with great success .

Maybe the drastic change of diet & environment has OD her system. As dumb as it sounds i would be placing her back on the old diet (if i new it ) see what happens. If its a food allergy & she was in good nick & has crasehed in your care than consider what you where feeding?? What where you feeding?? Have you used any flea treatment spot ons?? As for products the best around i have heard is Eqyss, not cheap but apperantly worth every cent -
Advice / Opinions About Puppy Vaccination Schedule Please.
Dogsfevr replied to mplsv's topic in Puppy Chat
depends on what vacc is used & the breed in question plus the colour. It is well known certain breeds & colours within those breeds are more predisposed to parvo. For us personally we do 2 only -

Groomers - How Do You Handle This Situation?
Dogsfevr replied to Colliewood's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
maybe ask the owners to show you how they groom, there could be something you see that you can help them work with. It may be the way they hold, something they have done & not realized .Ask them ,ask if they have had any attitude issues. He may have even been harassed on a walk. The only dog we groomed that turned over the top in a short space was mauled at the park, dog turned totally nutty being groomed.Just had a total fear of being touched . Although as i say whilst you may not see an injury a pulled muscle or similiar can really make a dog react -
Groomers - How Do You Handle This Situation?
Dogsfevr replied to Colliewood's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Whilst no injury the dog may have pulled a muscle etc in the rear. The dog may be sore & need a chiro or similiar. The occasional clients where the dogs are going feral for no reason we suggest this & often there is aproblem -
did the vets have cases of KC at that time or has it been around or could it be a reaction to the grass seed??
-
Its going to have be on the ground to toilet .Ticks travel on humans & easily passed to the dog

With trouser grabbers & slippers just be patient & stick to a calm routine. The more you dance around, use your voice, drops things the more fun the whole game becomes. When our litters hit 6 weeks some do it more than others ,we dont encourage it but we dont play the game of making a big deal.We do what we have with no form of reaction. The novelty wears off & they start to learn our voice tones & expectations. As for jumping up it doesnt worry me but all are dogs are taught when its allowed & not.If im dressed in non specific clothes & im ready forthe onslaught then i will happily allow the privelage of jumping up.If its not the right time then they are fully i have granted them permission. Dont over confuse the pup with different forms of "no" We find alot of our puppy owners read so much that they end up so confused & forget the very basic commen sense approach.Dogs dont need complicated reactions & expectations, they thrive on simplicity & learn very uickly when its black & white

Adults feed twice daily here & the people i now with large breeds feed twice daily.Alot of our clients feed twice daily & we recommend to any of our puppy owners who all work full time to continue feeding twice daily (small dogs included). Feeding is all personal. Alot of the times i see people making lots of money from fads many jump on to. We never fast here unless the dog does so itself.I dont fast & wont do it to my dogs

"Shadow was sold as a "pet only", and his breeder was happy that he was healthy enough to send at 7 weeks. We would have held off except that with transport dates, etc, this was the only time we could get him if we didn't want to wait until he was 10 weeks." Yep breeder broke the COE ,you may want to mention to the breeder you listed there prefix & the fact they sold under age on a forumn.
-
Okay my thoughts you have trained him at present to rely on you "Mental stimulus, I'd say every 2hrs for 30minutes playing fetch etc. " Dont train the dog to rely on you.Every 2 hrs means he is reliant on you & you are training him to not be independent. The weather has interrupted whats normal for him & he hasnt coped with the not getting his routine,he doesnt now how to deal with not getting attention. You need to slowly take a step back & allow pup to be independent & be able to survive on its own because you will have many years to come & you wont always be able to play every 2-3 hrs,Its its daily routine & nows no different.

Scrape the pasta. All our pups get Farex & they love it .Have used it for over 20 years & we suggest the owners wean them after the first month. It is agreat night time filler or early am snack that the small breeds just love. Also is the pup 7 weeks or 8 weeks. If its 7 it was sold under age especally as you have listed the dogs kennel name?? many breeders use the rehy advance,We personally couldnt as it didnt agree with our breed when they added the colostrum to it.I think one has colostrum & one doesnt .We used it years ago but scarpaed advance when they keeped changing the ingredients which didnt suit our breed but i do now many poodle breeders who find the product to be very good. If you really want to play around with the diet i would still involve you breeder,Diet in breeds which can suffer from cataracts is very important,It is well known that diet can create a diet form off cataracts which is why breeders will send there pups home with a diet sheet that has worked well for them with no health issues.Often breeders puppy guarantee is also based on you feeding what is suggested or a discussion if changing. I dont feed BARF & dont plan too.I have friends who feed full BARf whose dogs look no different & are no more healthier than mine. I feed a dry that suits the individual dog & i do feed raw mutton, chicken necks.,fish, yoghurt etc tetc .Occasionally i use the BARF patties on one dog who can only tolerate a small amount of raw each week. Diet is a very personal thing with many opinions & what works for one dog may never work for another. Many breeds need a certain specific diet that suits there needs compared to others. You will never get the answer you want but i would consider heading into the poodle sub section as they would be able to talk diet with you
