what do you do for the top of the head, and ears? Ears are clipped per the breed, head we hand strip with a stone,The only part the thinners would touch there is simply for blending Springer head
-
Will add though there is no need to thin there feathers. The only thinning is blending the throat, bum & feet . yep they exist.Ours get used 5 days a week practically all year & hard work. I have found the Wahl, roseline to be a good budget thinner

Cheap soft crates dont last & if your placing a large breed in then the quality must be there for safety & re sassurance. My large dogs are trained to use there soft crates .I also won one for BIS & when i placed my dog in it & he rolled over he rolled out as the quality was poor. We have replaced the mesh with better quality . I have the ones from the WA canine dog shop. Not cheap but have lasted over 4 years so far

yep we use curash/paw paw basically anything that will give a protection cover & heal. We do chicken & pumpkin here & will aslo give flora max tabs from the chemist to reline the gut with good bactera. We fined the tabs better than the yoghurt as they possess a higher number of good flora

My print this off & show your aunt. She needs to understand that whilst its cute its not helping your pup but reinforcing the behaviour that you reaaly want to not encourage . They often dont see it as an issue as they walk in & then leave but she needs to understand that her actions arent helping the pup at all & it isnt fair on the pup
-
But often this is the key ,small doses is generally enough, most of these classes are an hour. So what you need to do is allow Milo to have fun & i personally would remove him whilst still enjoying & praise. Sit aside & allow him to watch, hear & then if all is great join again.
-
This is very common. The most important thing is to ignore her when re entering, guests come etc etc. Ask all friends to walk straight in & ignore.Dont fuss or over excite Most dog grow out of it if you follow the regime but a small few do it for life & it can become a pain

Shame the OP did not ask these questions before purchasing the pup. I agree with you on that one gareth , I just think you catch more flies with honey and now he is asking if we don't turn him away and he gets some quality information then maybe the pup will get the life it deserves. Unfortunately very few people seem to put in the time or effort to find out about their chosen breed before actually bringing the puppy home! DOL can be a great place to learn and receive many opinions, often quite differing opinions, it is then up to the individual to decide what they are going to use and what they won't. The OP isnt just posting here .The OP has posted in the restricted breeds & other areas.maybe read all those post & you well learn more about the OP

sadly this is a problem with some puppy pre schools. They end up throwing all pups in the deep end & some dogs take longer to adjust than others . I agree with cosmolo talk to the instructor & if they arent willing to make a plan or work with your dog then go elsewhere. Whats is your instructors qualifications??

thinking on a dog run woruld be the better option, athough i would prefer no restrictios at all. Have not thought about an inside dog ever, smell, ripping furiture apart. But it could be a option if the pros outweight the cons Dogs only smell if the owners let them. Furniture issues are training . The pros outweight the cons, what dog wantsto be tie outside or in a run 24/7 without being part of the family. If you want this pittie to be a great dog then you will need to do the training . Otherwise why get a dog if you dont like the smell etc etc??
-
I too owuld hav eremoved both but we remove dew claws off our pups anyway . Do you cut the dew claws, are they long?? I have brought dogs with dew claws wit no issues at all but there well maintained

I agree completely otherwise why are gundogs the most commonly used breed in the assistance/blind field. Although i own the breeds that most uninformed have the most to say.Setters. Most & it has been said by regular DOLERS that setters are stupid but known have ever owned them. Irish excel at obedience, gordons excel in all dog sports.the English i would agree take a bit more time & i think the unfortunate part is some owners may have had adeaf/partially deaf English setter & not realized labelling them stupid. The English i say are stars in the field but less eager to please for long periods. The red/whites are great all rounders. The biggest issue is alot f trainers carry breed snobbery & views .I have been dished it many times they just happened to pick the wrong bunnt to spin there talk. All my setters live with little dogs & interact all the time with any dog ,I have owned gundogs for over 21 yrs from yanks to setters & bever had a hard one to train, its just a case of using the method that works.Being patient & not expecting to much to young. During the growth stages i find the setters are very akward & as such sitting quickly etc etc is just not what there body is ready for & this applies to many large dogs

No ,i part to the skin where i wish to start & then go down in a line.I dont do it in the one spot
-
Okay have re read old post & this is the pitbull pup?? That you where asking about cable tieing to the clothes line or a run?? Have you decided which option you are using??
-
Are you meaning outside dog 24/7 or outside when at work. What breed??
-
I use advantix but generally only for 4 months of the year & never had issues BUT like any product there is a risk(mine are coated dogs also). I use it summer purely for the mosquiot/fly part .We have no fleas or ticks but its worls a treat for the other 2 things & i leave the boys out till very late or at night shows

The key to remember is BARF isnt for every dog. yes it could be an issue because not all dogs can tolerate meat & certain kinds

Perhaps I worded my post incorrectly as it is the animal set up I was querying as far any illness that could be passed on. But what illnesses are you referring too?? The photos i presume are the ones in the hsowring & you will see its double fencing. The walls in between with double fencing on top. They would have to have one very long tongue  So research air borne diseases & the worse you will find is canine cough which you can get anywhere . Well I dont know what illnesses can be brought in, it is more a 'what if' anything that may be airborne etc

Well for starters the fee is cheaper than many boarding kennels  quarantine isnt about being in padded room with no air or light. The only communal disease they could get is canine cough ,other than that the only other time they are to lick is the outside yards. When our dog was in it was bricks so high & double fencing. When it comes to other species wll the facilities would suit the risk of how disease is spread . With EI wasnt it simply poor human cleansing? not the facilities

The jobs being done lately & what some are charging is criminal. Some of our poor puppy owners phone us in tears because of what some of the groomers have done who profess they now how to groom schnauzers
-
Okay i find the above interesting ,i have never heard off someone moulding a dog into what you like. So i guess y question is what the households expectations ?? Its funny we board alot of labs from all sorts of breeds & from around australia & we find the biggest issue with untrained or unruly lab pups is s mall minority of owners presume because there a lab there instantly smart Obviously they are a very bright breed you just need to be matched & prepared to be patient & go through the stages Its interesting working in my field as to what some owners presume because of what the breed is.You now like rough collies are Lassies etc etc.

They Has been around for years, We trialled it on a certain breed around 15 yrs ago & didnt like because the biscuit was like feeeding fish flakes & the dogs where choking on it. Hopefully they addressed that issue.
-
i would consider diet first & whether its so salty is causing excessive drinking after that yes health issues . Some breeds are more known for being bigger drinkers ,i have learnt that with the setters

Stack is for the show ring so not an area you need to worry about. What i find is many puppies owners get caught in the "it sits, drops etc etc but when out in the real world or is required because its an emergency or to settle a dog it doesnt work. You can do distraction training even now. Whilst training a family member can run around like a goon & your job is to keep pups attention.someone eating food whilst pup is asked to do a task(sit, drop) Its really the next level up but with reality added in not quite, calm . When i trialled my girl she was a squeaky ball nut.She would turn inside out for this one item.I used it in her down stays & any training where i wanted her to realize she couldnt have & for distraction turning during offelash exercises.Healing on lead i would do figure 8 around 2 squeaky balls. Her doing well was getting her balls & i used these as her go fetch & bring training. Our showdogs need to be focused but i find the more you train young with distraction the lesser the big deal is/I find its harder to train in calm mood & then with age deal with the distractions whilst there getting bigger,
