  1. Well she is not perfectly intelligent is she. What she has shown from that statement and her reasoning reveals alot about her logic process, she is not sensible at all. I would bet that she applies the same process to lots of things in her life. Most people are not perfectly intelligent and sensible, the majority of people are ignoramuses who think they know everything.
  2. I LOVE BULLTERRIERS They are trainable and biddable, especially males. In my opinion, not to the same extreme as Staffies though. I think Bull Terriers are more independent and ask a little more of their handlers, but nonetheless are certainly highly intelligent, get a rapport happening and you can teach a BT anything, ofcourse that includes perfect recall. Yes male and male, who knows. Maybe they will be ok, maybe not. A bitch ofcourse solves any potential problem there, but my personal view is that bitches of all breeds tend to be that little bit harder to train, and a little bit more independent so keep that in mind aswell.
  3. Its already been explained that he only gets the dogs back when the fences are in order.
  4. It is crystal clear that you are someone who does not have alot of experience with dogs and is AT BEST vague when it comes to your understanding of basic dog behavior. A GSD is twice the size of a Staffy. Have you ever seen a GSD bite and hold ? Yeh I bet you haven't. You have suggested breed specific legislation in this thread. They don't. 90% of what they report on they allege involved a Pitbull or Staffy. Of that, only a small fraction actually do involved those breeds. Further more, something that seems to escape you and alot of others, for every reported attack there are atleast 100 others. So its not "whenever a tragedy occurs" at all. They make this current affair tripe for people like you that swallow it all.
  5. Thanks. Typical emotive trash i'd expect from a program like that. Sounds like they borrowed the music from the Jaws franchise.
  6. Is there a link to this story on the Internet ?
  7. Yeh your probably right. I don't think its about teaching him that a dog needs to be fed, but maybe he will learn compassion for dogs. 30 days jail is no big deal people do that for unpaid fines. Also the 10 year ban doesn't mean a thing if he wants another dog he will get one and they will not know a thing about it. But if he can be shown thats dogs are mans best friend, dogs deserve to be treated right, ect then that could be the beginning of a sustainable solution.
  8. How can a dog starve for that long ? Seems an awful long time I think they are exaggerating. The poor little mate. A month in jail. Way to go Tasmania for sending a tough message
  9. The reason is people humanize dogs, they do not do it to other animals as much. People project human morality onto dogs, alot of people think that dogs should know better. For example, from the OP The dogs brought it on themselves *nods* Because they are evil dogs and all
  10. Yes that is something to do with decreased or absent levels of the myostatin protein which inhibits muscle growth. It is a genetic mutation which occurs naturally in various different species including humans. In some types of cattle it has been successfully selectively bred for. Professional body builders look like that because they slog their guts out over many years, they do nothing but eat a strict diet and train. I have heard that scientists are starting to learn alot about how to control it though, they have made massively muscled mice. It will be in body building in the future without question but I don't think it is now its a myth.
  11. Um excuse me and who are you ???? The OP's dog is not desexed because it's his dog and he doesn't want to desex her. I think he can do without the 4 question marks.
  12. Yes color is important to me in some breeds, in others i'm not fussed. Top of the list is Bull Terriers - They must be white ! My uncle had a white Bull Terrier which I grew up with, and so its just programmed in my brain that Bull Terriers should pure white like Rocky Unfortunatly I have never owned one but I will one day and it will be a white one. Other than that, I have a strong preference for rednose Pitbulls over black or brown pigment. Why ? Because they just look so fascinatingly awesome and cute.
  13. That good, very good I have never been to a single Sydney cafe which did not allow me my dog and that is how it should remain.
  14. Insurance, much lols. Like to see them try and enforce that one. If this guy wants to there is not reason why he cannot sue the dog owner. So what is a dangerous breed then ? We all know American Pitbulls are super dangerous, but aside from them ? Every breed that has ever bit ? So every dog owner should get insurance ? My arse Staffy's are at the top of the list of bite stats. It is a rare Staffy that would bite a person what a load.
  15. I did have a look again. I watched it lots of times its funny I love it Oh yeh Tyson out takes were awesome what a talent
  16. Thats funny good job Tyson did well. It was funny how he took the bag back, then he turns around and starts barking before giving chase Lols It reminds me of an animation I did for a college assignment years ago so funny. How come that guy robbed the girl with one hand in his pocket, and then girl fell down by herself
  17. Hmm. Ok. Well thats not something you can really "disagree" with Thats like me saying I disagree with pythagoras theorem. What I said is just what happens. Ofcourse "not always". Sometimes. Like this time. I think it is probable that the only reason it was not a trip to the vet (or worse) was because the other dog was only a pup. That happens too. But that is not a scenario that reflects the OP's situation.
  18. *zips mouth* Well, atleast you are unique in that you actually admit it was your own dumb fault so big ups for that. Glad your little mate was ok and the other dog was only snapping as opposed to biting and holding. Thats right I could not have put it better. They are little squeak toys to big dog. The pattern is, they play, everything is fine at first. Big dog turns it up a little bit, the small dog cannot handle it and becomes submissive. Big dog bites, it squeaks, oh wow that was funny. Lets do it again. It squeaks some more, becomes even more submissive, tries to get away, big dog sees small dog as prey and then its too late. Starts at play, progresses to prey.
  19. What relevance does AKC data have to the number of APBT's in the USA ?
  20. You see it right here in the news forum, the way the often false, always selective reporting affects peoples psyche, even people who know what the media is about and should know better. People often say something along the lines of "Not Again", when there is a dog attack. What do you mean not again. If the only dog attacks which ever occurred are the ones which are reported here people should be throwing a party. Unfortunately, the truth is for every dog attack we hear about there is probably 100 others. Instead of perspective, people let all the drama rub off on them.
  21. chris, if other people have a problem that is there problem not yours. Don't let them influence you like that. Why should you wait until night time to walk your dog or cross the street that is absolutely ridiculous. What do you mean it was your choice ? Sure it was your choice, and you did not do anything wrong. Don't let them drag you down with them.
  22. Thats absolutely right. And you would be lucky if 5% of Australians agreed with you. Today it is all about blaming the other guy (or animal, or tide, or alignment of planets) in any way possible. Everyone wants to be absolved of any wrong doing or fault under any circumstances, common sense is not important. The adults are like that, so what hope do the kids have of ever learning any different. Our society is going down the toilet in some ways. We are following in the footsteps of England which from what I can make out is even worse.
  23. It depends on the dog. It is all in the dogs head not in its body. What the dog looks like it is capable of and what it is infact capable of are two different things. Your husband may be right, perhaps the dog can't get over, he also may be wrong. My old dog was a big guy, heavy build, you would not think him the type capable of jumping a fence, but think again. When he set his mind to it the fence was no problem. They hook their paws over the top and then they can scramble the rest of the way. In contrast, my current dog is athletic and agile in appearance, but the nature of her temperament and my training means she cannot jump a relatively low fence let alone a high one despite appearances, because she does not believe she can.
  24. There are already so many breeds. Those designer dogs do not offer anything new, they are a marketing strategy, dare I say, a fad. Having said that, there is an argument that a lot of purebred dogs already are obsolete. If their breed traits are no longer being tested for or bred for, then what is the use of the breed ? All dogs have certain things in common, such as loyalty, ect, what sets breeds apart is there individual strengths and character, which needs to be bred for to get a unique dog like the pioneers of the breed intended. I think there is an unbreakable connection between form and tempermant. I think that with spitz breeds for example, the pointy ears and the carriage of the tail is directly linked to their tempermant. Change the form, and the tempermant will change. So on that level, I think that maintaining no longer working breeds to a breed standard can to some extent continue that breeds character through many generations of non working dogs which, does differentiate them, I suppose. Then, theoretically, you could use that accurate physical stock and hopefully over a period of time you could come up with a useful dog if you needed it. Don't know but there is definitely a debate in that one interesting topic, sorry to wonder off on a tangent.
