Georgia and I attended our first dog obedience class, it was great fun. Georgia did really well and I think I did too. I met some wonderful people and even a couple of shelties. It was a really positive experience for both of us and now Georgia is sound asleep. -

Georgia's developed a bit of a bad habit in the time she's been here in that she never wanted to do her business on the grass because we had a lot of rain when she arrived. Now she's been doing her poos on the concrete and continues to do it even when its not raining. I've been moving her poos to the spot where I want to go. Its probably a good idea to clean the area to remove the smell, but what should I use? Any advice to break the habit will be appreciated. -

Hi everyone, I've been up in Cairns for the last few days thats why I haven't been around. I had to trust hubby and the kids to look after Georgia and they did a fantastic job. She's doing great now and has settled like she always lived here. While I don't think she's toilet trained yet, we've had no accidents in the last couple of days so we're heading in the right direction. I took her out visiting to my Nana's place today and she had a ball. She met my Nans dog and at first she was scared but she soon realised he's great fun to play chasey with, so thats what she did. She's still sleeping like a baby everynight in the crate. We haven't had to get up once, thats probably because she was older when we got her, boy what a relief! I'll get some new pics soon. -

Her first night was a breeze, she slept right through in her crate, not a peep out of our precious girl. She's starting to play with the cats this morning. Toilet training is going a bit slowly but I think thats to do with the fact that we've had heaps of rain since the time we arrived home yesterday. -

We've just had our first accident inside. We've taken her out 10 times but its pouring with rain, so we just cleaned it up and moved on. She held on about 5 hours, so I was just happy she went. She loves everyone, even my inlaws who came for dinner. -

Georgias' here, yay and she's just amazing. She's fallen in love with my youngest cat Gizmo, she desperately wants to play with him, and wants to as well but neither are sure yet, its only been 3 hours. I've haven't got many good pics yet because its a dark and rainy day here. This is the best I could manage. -

Maybe you could get a jewlery maker to make a leather necklace with a clear locket on it, with the rings inside. So no gold or silver touches your skin. Time to think outside the box, I'm sure there is a way to wear your treasured things without making you sick. Hugs, Mich -
To All You Fellow Dog Owners - Do You Also Own A Cat?
Michelleva replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
We currently have three indoor cats, one is a birman the other two are moggies. But we are currently dogless, but not for much longer, we pick up our sheltie puppy tomorrow. Then the fun begins. The cats have lived with a dog in the past so I don't forsee too many issues. And the breeder has cats too, so as long as we take our time I feel confident integrating them all. -

BF, thats not good. Have you tried silver? If you can tolerate silver, it gives you a good excuse to get hubby to buy new rings in a different colour. -

Lindainfa, we're getting a tri-coloured sheltie, its been my husbands dream to own one for nearly 30 years. He gets 10/10 for patience. Off to mow the lawn before it rains.... can't have Georgia wading through the long grass. ;) -

We're down to 2 sleeps now... I can feel the butterflies in the tummy already. BF- Why don't you offer the harness for sale here to recoup some of your money. I'm sure someone else who has a younger pup can use it. There is a sale section on the forum. Zoe is sooo cute in her little jumper. Since Georgia's going to be a fluffer I don't think we need a jumper but I've been thinking of a raincoat in case it rains on one of our walks. -

Georgia is a shetland sheepdog. She'll eventually get her adult coat and look exactly like a collie in minature. And yes, we are a perfect match. Her coat is changing from puppy to adult so is very uneven, but we love her anyway. Oh and I changed my name on here, used to me Mich & Jake. -

We got to meet our beautiful Georgia today, and she's officially ours when we get back from holidays. Now I just need this holiday to hurry up so I can get home again. She has the most amazing temperment, so friendly and outgoing, she's a real credit to my breeder. And yes, the breeder described her as being fuggly, but in our eyes she's just beautiful. Her coat is changing from a pup to adult coat, so its at that in between stage and very uneven, but she looks cute with all these long bits and short underneath. Its only temporary and her personality is what matters anyway. The second Georgia met us her tail wagged madly and she had a huge grin on her face, she fell in love with us the same time we fell in love with her, it was a beautiful moment for us as a family and for the breeder. We're all confident she's going to fit in very well here, and now I can't wait to bring her home. She's 14 weeks currently and will be 16 weeks when she comes home. Some pics from today. -

The hydrangea is only a small plant, so no big deal. The other plants I wanted to get rid of for a while because they drop leaves everywhere and make a mess, it gives me a good excuse to get rid of them. -

I've discovered the weeping cherry is also called a japanese cherry blossom and appears to be fine. I did however discover that the hydranger needs to be taken out. I'll just put that in the front garden. I'll have to check out any other plants I want to put in the backyard before they go in from now on. Gee if you have to think of everything don't you. -

Today hubby and I need to rip four rhododendron plants out. I've just found out they are very poisonous to dogs if they eat the flowers or leaves. They are quite big, so will be a big job but its just not worth the risk. I never knew there was a problem with them, but aparantly azalea's are in the same group and are poisonous too. So please check if you have any of these in your yards too. -

BF, I think you need to ignore her and stay in bed. Even if she thinks your asleep by going to her you'll make the barking worse. Because she's getting the result she wants. Be careful you don't want to end up with a dog that can't be on its own. My parents dog is like that and its not fun to live with. Their dog freaks out if you put him outside and close the glass door, he can see you but in his mind he's seperated. He was a rescue dog though who lived the majority of his life dumped in someones backyard. Thats just my 2cents, I'm by no means an expert. We're meeting Georgia on Sunday but won't be bringing her home until the 23rd. Because we are going on holidays, we leave next thursday. We met the whole litter when they were 8 weeks old, but at that point we didn't know we would eventually get one. Georgia will be 16 weeks old when she gets home. My breeders dogs are so social and outgoing though so I'm not worried about her being under-socialised. Her socialisation will just continue once we get her home. We plan to start obedience with her hon 1st May, that should be fun. -

Jodi I completely understand where your coming from, I was in the same spot last year. My hubby didn't get it either. And then after all that excitement they still didn't have a pup for us. I was disappointed at the time, but just figured its not meant to be, but I stayed in contact with the breeder and crossed everything that one of the two girls they kept wouldn't work out and that exactly what happened. We're meeting our gorgeous girl on Easter Sunday. So the moral of my story is yes, get excited but don't assume there will be one for you in this litter as there may not. But if you have a good rapport with the breeder stick with them, it will be worth it in the end. -

Thats what happened to me Belgian Blue. The breeder was running on two girls, and we got the one that was less suitable for showing. It doesn't bother me one bit either, i have zero interest in showing dogs. I told the breeder I hope one of them turns out to be no good, luckily she has a sense of humour. -
Thanks Terra Nik, I have no problem asking for help if I need it. The breeder is also available if I need help with anything too.
