  1. I hope your girl arrives well today Poppy. I had a question about nail clippers. What sort have you all bought? I searched on here and found these, which sound interesting. http://www.mytoolstore.com.au/products/Dre...ooming-kit.html I cut the cats nails regularly, but am just using human clippers. They won't work on a puppy. I've asked the breeder for recommendations too.
  2. Thanks guys. To be honest I'm not too concerned. I work from home so supervision won't be too hard. And at the breeders house Georgia currently lives with 3 or 4 cats. So I doubt the pup will have any issues, if anyone will have issues it will be the cats. I just don't want the pup chasing the cats everywhere, the second she walks in the door. In the past when we've had cats and dogs together, the cats were always the boss and the dogs were quite happy with that arrangement. Even Mums dog knows the cats rule the roost.
  3. In a few weeks we're going to be the proud parents of a sheltie pup. We have three indoor cats who we need to do introductions with. I think the two younger ones will be fine, the oldest one is a a sooky sensitive boy though. So any advice is appreciated. We have several scratching posts and an outdoor enclosure where the cats can escape to if they need to. We have my parents little dog here at the moment too, before he goes to live in Cairns, so the cats are already used to living with a dog, but he's an oldy and doesn't do much other than eat and sleep. He's certainly not an excited jumpy puppy. We will be crate training the pup, is it a good idea to set the crate up now, so the cats are used to it, or is it better to do it closer to when she arrives. We're going on holidays in a couple of weeks and after that our pup comes home.
  4. Yeah she'll probably run rings around me. I can't wait to book her into dog obedience.
  5. Here is a photo of our little girl Georgia, she's currently 11 weeks old. We won't be picking her up until we get back from holidays in a few weeks. I was so excited last night I couldn't sleep. Isn't she beautiful. She's from the original litter we were waiting for, but the breeder was going to keep for showing.
  6. Well its official, we have a puppy arriving in a few weeks. I can't believe it, we've waited for what seems forever, and this came totally out of the blue. I'll update with some pics tomorrow. I've got butterflies in the tummy I"m so excited.
  7. OMG OMG OMG I think I'll have some good news to share tomorrow. *fingers crossed* I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.
  8. [/quote/] I have seen you on here waiting so patiently for your sheltie, you wont be disappointed believe me - they are wonderful dogs :D You get a baby soon Mich Hubby does not share my patience, but its a good lesson for him to learn too. And I definitely believe good things are worth waiting for.
  9. I thought I'd pop in and say G'day. Everyone's new pups are gorgeous, and you've picked some great names. We're still waiting on a pup and not getting much closer. I see a few of you have had breeders change their minds about keeping certain pups. We had the same thing happen, but I'm not bitter about it, just being extra patient. Its hard, but it will just make us appreciate our little bub even more. I understand that our breeder breeds first to have dogs to show and breed with, and whats left us pet owners get, which is totally fine. The breeder has kept the pup I would have loved to adopt, and I've told her if she doesn't work out in the show ring, I will adopt her in a heartbeat, even if she's a bit older. I told the breeder I'm sending vibes to make her grow too big, or not enough, which a big thing with shelties. She takes it in good humour, and we have a great rapport, so I think our patience will be rewarded. If we don't get this pup, then there will be another litter coming later year. I'm first in line for a pup, I'm sure it will work out for us. Sending patient vibes to everyone else who's in the same position.
  10. After all these positive responses to the Odour Go, I think I better order some. I've been emailing the supplier and was originally going to get a small bottle to try, but its not really cost effective once you add postage. So I was waiting to see what others thought of it before jumping in and buying a 5L bottle.
  11. Would this stuff work on an outdoor cat enclosure? It stinks a bit of cat pee out there. I also wouldn't mind using it indoors, we have 3 cats and 1 dog all living inside, not to mention my stinky teenager!
  12. Thats a really sad situation. I hope someone can help them all.
  13. I'm sorry too Didles, that is very disappointing. I hope you don't get any grief from the breeder, getting your deposit back.
  14. Badger is adorable, congratulations. We got puppy cuddles today at the dog show. The current litter is 8 weeks, OMG, now I'm even more clucky than before and we don't even know when we'll be getting our pup. The breeder is running on two of the tri girls, I politely told her if either don't work out, its welcome here. The pups were so snuggly and playful. One of their older dogs was playing with my son the whole time, so heart warming. The breeder we're going with breeds dogs with the best temperments, so I must be patient, its not easy though.
  15. Oh that baby lab asleep is the cutest pic ever. I hope he'll be ok and you can pick him up soon. We're off to a dog show tomorrow to meet the breeder again and meet their current litter, as well as the future Mum of our puppy. Its going to be hard to leave those pups behind, maybe I should take a big bag and sneak one in there. Only kidding, but soooo tempting.
  16. Love that last pic Keyarna, so cute. It sounds like things are going well, have fun and keep us posted.
  17. Mich & Jake - Shetland Sheepdog (tri-colour) - due second half 2010
  18. I just snagged myself a bargain on ebay. a second hand dog crate in perfect condition, $26. I saw the same one new listed for $90. Its the right size for a sheltie, now we just need to pup to put in there.
  19. Jules your new baby is adorable. And your set up is exactly what I had in mind for when we get our bubba.
  20. How did the first night go Jules? Amber sounds like a chilled out little puppy. Don't forget to post pics.
  21. Melbourne, Miss Lielani. Our breeder is based in Geelong. I'm learning what patience is all about. From when I put my name down for a pup its been about 5 months so far, and will still be a while longer. My husband is nowhere near as patient as me, once he decides he wants something, he wants it NOW!! Lucky I'm the voice of reason and will be sticking with the breeder who has given so much of her time already. We're going to meet the current litter in about a months time, so excited about that too. Any excuse for more sheltie cuddles. I love collies too, but didn't want a huge dog and hubby has wanted his own sheltie since he met one when he was a kid. He's the one who introduced me to them actually. I've been thinking about what sort of collar to get for a sheltie, with all that hair you won't see it anyway. What type do you use for a collie?
  22. I'm another one who's waiting for a puppy. We're waiting on a shetland sheepdog, hopefully a tri-colour. We've picked our breeder quite a while ago, they have a litter at the moment but they're keeping them for potential show dogs at this stage. They're expecting another litter in July and we have first option on a puppy. So exciting. We're going to Hong Kong in April, I plan to look for some different puppy toys there. I haven't bought any puppy stuff yet, as its too far off. I also plan to crate train, which I've never done before, so no doubt there will be a million questions. Congratulations to everyone else who's getting a new family member soon.
  23. Thanks for your input everyone, its been really helpful.
