  1. I just caught our puppy going through the contents of the kitty litter tray......... :D I definitely don't want anymore puppy kisses..... ewwwwwwwe
  2. I always assumed Steve was a guy!
  3. Wow you all look so good. I can't believe all the dogs sitting in the middle with no leads. Having just started obedience 3 weeks ago, I think it will be some time before my puppy is that good, but I live in hope.
  4. Awwwe look at little Jaws. I love his name by the way, too cute. It reminds me of the sheltie I met a few years ago named Rambo. I was just wondering if any of your pups are teething yet. Georgia is nearly 5 months and her teeth are really annoying her. She's spat a few out, and had some bleeding on her gums. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can give her to make it feel better. I know they all have to go through it but I feel sorry for her. She's eating her chicken necks as well as some bigger bones for chewing on. I keep finding my sons toys in her bed, she takes them there to have a gnaw on. She's also chewed up numerous cat toys in the process. She's also been off her food a bit, the breeder is convinced its because her gums are sore, poor bub. Tonight she ate everything up, I fed her later and waited till she was really hungry, it seemed to do the trick.
  5. I'm very quickly learning there's nothing like it.
  6. Ok, I know you already know that! But just 3 weeks ago we bought home our gorgeous little puppy. Today I've been out all day doing errands, I'm normally home most of the day and little Georgia was SO excited when I got home. She was running up and down the house, her tail wagging madly and a huge grin on her face. We haven't had a dog for a while, only having cats. Cats just don't react the same way, they just look at the food bowl and give me the LOOK!!! Gawd, I love my Georgie girl!
  7. awwww look at Isaac, what a cutie pie. Far out his feet are HUGE, me thinks he's gonna be a big boy Gayle.
  8. Nushie, how exciting! You know the longer you have to wait, the more puppy stuff you get to buy. We waited in total 6 months for our puppy, she's been here 3 weeks and we love her to bits. She's the happiest, smoochiest dog I've ever met. Ok I'm biased, as every good Mum should be. And our little Georgie Girl is growing some coat. She's starting to get used to the grooming, its taken a bit but we're making progress.
  9. I had the same thing yesterday. Our pup is 4 1/2 months old and she kept poking her tongue out, like something was irritating her mouth. When we looked in we found a small amount of blood on the gum and a couple of very wobbly teeth. Lucky my vet nurse friend was here to assure me all was good. I'm giving my girl lots of bones to chew on as well. Is your bub chewing everything in sight at the moment Riley's Mum? Georgia reminds me of my kids when they were babies and everything went in that drooly mouth.
  10. BF, I really think its not dominance at all. I think your cat is scared of Zoe, she is stressed and thats why she's peeing in the wrong places. If she is weeing in the same places, I'd put some extra litter trays in those places and see if she will go there instead. I have a serial pisser here too, and he is triggered by stress. After 2 weeks of having a new pup our boy ended with a UTI, he was doing the same as your cat weeing all over the place, but he also had blood in the urine. You need to reassure the cat to let her know you still love her, try giving her a massage to relax her. It sounds weird but my stressy boy loves it.
  11. Thanks showdog, I'll give your method a go, because mine hasn't worked so far.
  12. Does anyone have any tips on getting a puppy used to grooming? Our sheltie pup obviously doesn't have a lot of hair yet, she's 4 1/2 months but she needs to get used to the idea of grooming. She gets very jumpy when I go near her with a brush. At the moment I'm using a really soft brush while she's sitting on my lap all relaxed and happy. I give her a treat and tell her how good she is, but she's still not happy about it. She's trying to pull away and get off my lap. Any idea's.
  13. Another dry night :p :D How exciting....Zoe is almost TT, now we just have issues with the cat, as she is peeing everywhere.....its a dominance thing going on between them, and its driving me insane. The cat works the dog up, she chases the cat and stands over her, the cat will go pee somewhere..... ;) I have been trying to stop Zoe from jumping up and chasing her, and Zoe ignores her now sometimes, but the cat just gets in her face until she she can't ignore it and chases her again..... ;) :) I am nearly ready to give up....I can't separate them, as there is nowhere for the cat to go other than the laundry but the dog needs to go through there to get outside. Any ideas? BF BF, first things first make sure there is no health issues, like urine infections. One of my cats who is a major stress-head has ended up at the vet this week because he had blood in his urine and was weeing everywhere as well. The vet said it was bought on by stress, the last 6 weeks has seen a lot of changes in his world which he doesn't cope with. So first of all make sure kitty isn't unwell, secondly you need to clean the pee up really well. You need to use an enzyme based cleaner because that removes the urine smell. If the cat can still smell the pee she will be attracted to the area again, I use biozet washing powder, but you can also get specific pet cleaners from vets and pet stores. I've had cats for years, so plenty of experience there. Good luck, I know how much fun it is, NOT!
  14. Nic - Georgia weighs 5kg now, and will only get to about 8kg when she's fully grown. At obedience today another puppy in our class wanted to play with her, but he was this huge thing, he put his paw playfully on Georgia's head and she looked at me as if to say "what was that?" She wasn't scared though, so thats good. I think Oreo is going to be a big boofa when he's grown up. BF- That is terrible news about your daughters puppy, to have that at only 6 months old is heartbreaking. Was the pup bought from a registered breeder? Did the vets have any idea why it happened, is it hereditary or more like she got hurt somehow? Thats just a terrible thing to go through. Hugs to you all. RIP Sweet Sasha Lily123 - Georgia made herself at home within the first hour. Its only been two weeks but it feels like forever, in a good way.
  15. Wow look at Oreo, he's gorgeous. His feet look massive compared to Georgia's. We're off to our second class of dog obedience today, it should be good as long as the rain stays away. The club has the motto, we train, rain, hail or shine. Georgia and I could be very soggy before getting home. This was taken yesterday, Georgia is 4 1/2 months old.
  16. I'm happy to report that Georgia hasn't used the concrete as a toileting spot for a couple of days now. She's such a smart girl and picks things up very easily. Now I need to get her to stop redesigning the garden beds.
  17. Thanks Bundy, the vet gave me exactly the same advice. So I've just been outside with her, she had her lunch, then a play then I put the lead on her and waited and waited. I waited for about 30 mins, and in the end she went so sleep at my feet. So I've put her in the crate for a nap, I'll get her up in 1/2 hour and try again. I had treats at the ready. Now I can clean the concrete while she's having her rest.
  18. Thanks for the warning guys. I found it a great social thing to do, and Georgia got more and more confident as the time went by.
  19. Nic, we're just in the beginners class now, which runs for a month. I suspect it would be similar to a puppy preschool. There was alot of discussion as to how to treat the dog to make sure you build a good relationship. Then we started learning how to get them walking at our heel. And also the COME command. We've been practising come alot today and she's really got the hang of it. Its great because if I don't know where in the house she is, I just call out in my best happy voice, Georgia Come and 9/10 she's there waiting for her treat. The trick is to make sure you sound happy because if you sound like your Mum when you were a kid don't expect the pup to come. LOL Here's another pic of Georgia asleep in bed with our son Bailey, this was taken in the first couple of days.
  20. hmm interesting thread. We've just bought home a sheltie puppy. The breeder was giving her daily heartworm meds, but said we could change over to revolution so its only once a month, which is what I planned to do. But reading inspector rex's post, is there a problem using this medication on a sheltie??
  21. Our 4 month old puppy who we've had for just over a week likes to do her business on the concrete entertaining area, instead of on the grass. It really started because when she arrived we had days and days of rain, and she obviously didn't like getting her dainty little feet wet. I've moved the poo onto the grass where I want her to go. Any other ideas? She's piddling on the concrete too, even though the rain has stopped now.
  22. Well it appears Georgia thinks my singing is not too bad. She's been hanging around listening to my beautiful voice today. And for those that asked this is Georgia, aged 4 months. The one in the crate was taken after she had her first playdate with my Nana's dog.
  23. We adopted our little sheltie pup a week ago. She's a bit older at 4 months so I wanted to start obedience straight away. It was perfect timing because yesterday was sign up day for new members. I've never done this before so I didn't know what to expect. All I can say is that I loved it and so did Georgia. She did really well and met LOTS of doggies. Its great for her socialisation and mine as well. I met some lovely people, and even a couple of shelties. It was so much fun, I can see it really becoming something I look forward to every week. The instructor was great and really approachable.
  24. We've had our sheltie puppy for a week now and tonight my daughter who's 15 has friends over for her birthday, they are so loud singing karaoke and just mucking around. But all of a sudden we thought, where's Georgia? The smart girl had put herself to bed in her crate. To be honest I'd love to join her.
