  1. Yep here is a link to http://www.agilityclubwa.com/ Sorry I dont know how to do the linky thing you can start at 12 weeks I can't believe that web site has never come up when I've been searching for training clubs. I'll have to decide if I want to make the trek down to the CAWA grounds. Bye the way, is the fee for joining CAWA annual or a one-off?

  3. Where are you allowed to start that young, would like to go and have a look?
  4. I've found that when I attend obedience training it is so focused on food rewards (which is great if you have a lab or a beagle) that no-one really suggests anything else and I'm not sure how to use the toy as a reward rather than just general play.
  5. I have tried everything under the sun (except lambs fry, still working up to that one!). Something that interests her one day is totally ignored the next. I never feed her before training and have even reduced her dinner the evening before. She is definately not overfed, she is 10 months old and is only really interested in eating in the evening - I aim to feed her 4% of her body weight per day. We have owned a Lakeland before and he was avery fussy eater, I never had to worry about him eating anything toxic!
  6. Please could anyone suggest some books, articles or DVD's to show me how to use toys as a reward for training. Our Lakeland is not particularly food motivated and I almost feel like I'm force-feeding her during training sometimes. So I'm wondering if I should try a different approach and use her love of toys as a reward. I know it's probably really obvious to all you experienced people but I'm just not sure how to start Thanks in advance
  7. I'm hoping the Frostypaws ones smell a bit less like carrion than the Dr B ones
  8. Oh, that's good to hear. They were on special at $3.80 for a 1kg bag (8 patties) so if she likes them I'll buy some more!
  9. I have just bought some Frostypaws BARF patties from Woolies for our girl to try. Just wondered if any DOLers are feeding to them to their dog - the ingredients look good and they're very reasonably priced.
  10. Here's the link to their website with stockists: Ziwipeak I was quoted $117.95 for a 5kg bag and $27.95 for a 1kg bag!
  11. What??? That's outrageous! Are you sure it was for 15kg? 'Cos that's about the norm. No it's only 5kg! The Natural Pet Store sell it for: 5kg - $112.50 1kg - $25.00 so the price seems pretty standard
  12. The EP Holistic Select is your best bet. I use the fish one and from memory it only has rice in it - no pesky wheat or corn... Thanks for that, now I'm trying to decide between EP and Artemis - the decisions are never ending
  13. I am thinking of trying Eagle Pack as our girl isn't particularly interested in Orijen anyway, but it seems to include a lot of grains - what do others think?
  14. Just phoned a stockist in WA to find out the price of Ziwipeak dry food- 5kg bag - $117.95 1kg bag - $27.95
  15. Both Good Manners and Paw Prints are starting their next basic course in January.
  16. These are the 2 that I know about: Paw Prints Good Manners I believe there is also one SOR
  17. Thanks for that. I know of two facilities that offer the training and one of those is run by a CGC award assessor so I am leaning towards going there. It doesn't appear that many WA DOLers have sat for the award
  18. Just wondering if anyone has completed the Delta Canine Good Citizenship program in Perth. If so, would you recommend it and where did you train?
  19. Yes, sometimes this can be a problem. We had a different trainer yesterday who was more relaxed and interspersed the sits, drops, stays into the walking exercises which was much better. I have been trying to read up on it but haven't found out very much I'm not looking at trialling, would just like a welltrained pet.
  20. Well today I have to eat my words. I've just returned from training where Izzy performed so well we were promoted to the next level It's amazing, she was like a different dog - still very interested in the other dogs but at least I could re-direct her focus on to me. I seriously considered not going today so I'm glad I did. So Rosie FT I hope this inspires you to keep going (I definately don't mind you using this thread, I'm interested in all the suggestions) One of the things we had to demonstrate today was whether the dog responded to the verbal sit command when they weren't sitting next to us - Izzy did it perfectly so I was very proud
  21. Where have all the trainers gone, i was really hoping to get some advise here Maybe I need to say something contraversial, that usually gets plenty of responses!
  22. I would appreciate some advice on obediance training our 8 month old Lakeland Terrier pup. We attend a large training club weekly and were doing quite nicely until about 6 weeks ago. She has always been easily distracted by other dogs, birds etc but still maintained enough focus in class to move up a couple of stages. However, she has reached the dreaded stage I was warned about and although she will still happily respond to commands and training in the house and garden, she turns into a different dog when outside and prefers to ignore me I have tried various food rewards and squeaky toys but she'd much rather watch what's going on around her. I have been looking at taking her to obediance training with smaller classes but there is nothing running now until January and the club we attend is also closed over Dec and Jan She is a lovely natured dog and loves everybody, do I just need to perservere until she grows out of the selective deafness or is there something we can add to our training to make ourselves more interesting than the distractions ?
  23. You are not alone, Rosie - this describes my 8 month old Lakeland Terrier perfectly. I have just returned from obedience class where she couldn't even be bothered to 'drop', tried the same command at home and she did it perfectly every time!
  24. Thanks for that Rosie, I live North of the river so the Canine Association is just a bit too far. I currently attend Northern Suburbs which is good but has a two month break over the summer.
  25. I'm in WA and my vet told me the regime is different over here - vaccinations at 6 and 12 weeks only.
