  1. when i was ill a while ago i wasn't up to taking the dog for a walk or anything else really. what i did was leave the back door open enough so she could go in and out as she pleased. maybe you could do that and see if the pup is still poing ang peeing inside. if she is you might need to go back to basics again with the toilet training. sometimes for unknown reasons some dogs go backwards for a while. it does sound as though she may have an upset tummy and by the time she realises she needs to go it just happens
  2. i think he was ducking because of the image of a very tired annoyed you!!! you would have been emenating annoyance. i don't think your hand had anything to do with it......i have done the same. got really mad at the dog because she sleeps in the bed with me. the routine is she goes outside for a wee then i pick her up and put her on the bed (she isn't allowed to go on there herself) then i turn off all the lights and go into the bedroom. well last night i go into the bedroom and she had peed in the bed. i was furious, so furious i was frozen still just looking at the bed......when i looked at the dog she was cowering and i hadn't moved a muscle. i just think she saw the look on my face and went Gulp!!!!!! and tried to make herself as small as possible. i stripped the bed, put everything in the washing machine, put clean sheets and duna pon the bed and by the time i had finished she was completely ok. except she was really well behaved for the rest of the night
  3. i thought that the first step to being a good leader was to acknowledge any mistakes you have made? editing a post to remove evidence is not really showing good leadership. if you said it then you said it, no point in denying it. however, IF you have ever hit your puppy that may help to explain why your puppy sees biting as a reasonable response to you. i mean, what else can it do???? you have shown it you are a littermate not a leader.
  4. when i was getting weight off my dog if she got too hungry i would give her green beans with her dinner and this seemed to make her think she had a big feed without her putting on weight
  5. there is no such thing as a fussy eater in dogs. there is however, very well trained owners!! a dog will never starve itself to death, ie if a dog is hungry they will eat anything. i have a small dog that eats whatever is served up to her. if she doesn't eat it gets taken away after 15 mins and she gets nothing until the next meal time. i have never had a dog that was fussy :p
  6. Oh you are lucky with your pup! When I use to wake him during the night before he whines, we still encounter the same problem. He will still whine and bark just the same. i know it is hard but ignore him and keep ignoring him and he will stop whining. once he realises that whining gets him nowhere he will stop.
  7. my pup is 18 months old and has been sleeping through the night since she was 5 months old. when she was 3-5 months old i would wake her and take her out because i didn't want her to whine and then i would let her out in case that caused problems later on. so maybe take the pup out before he whines then put him back in the crate when he has finished and leave him alone. dogs need to learn how to settle themselves.
  8. i use a dremmel and my dog goes to sleep when i trim her nails with it!
  9. thank you everybody. i will crack out the turkey wings, the dog will be pleased.
  10. i have started changing my dog's diet. she is a 16 month old Boston Terrier. i give her eagle pack duck and oatmeal kibble and for variety have been giving her frozen pilchards as well. i don't want to give her raw chicken wings as i think she would eat them too quickly so i thought that turkey wings would be the thing to give her. i want to feed her more raw things but i want to make sure i am feeding her the right food that won't cause her any problems. I would be interested to hear from anyone who is feeding a reasonably small (9kg) dogs raw turkey wings. I suppose i am checking out that the bones don't split and cause intestinal problems.
  11. i use a dremel dril with a sandpaper attachment to trim nails. works like a charm, dog loves it and you can't damage the quick.
  12. It's any noise, he says, including birds. ok then maybe they need a run with a solid roof, a place where they can rest and feel safe. maybe for stimulation some of the toys that hang and when the dog pulls they get food. he could also put in the run a clam shell with sand and one with water. he could hide treats in the sand as well. the dogs would then get most of their food by working for it. he will really need to put a lot of time into training the dogs. he needs to take them for a run before he goes to work and this would tire them out a bit. he could come home for lunch and walk them again. if he can't do that then he could employ a dog walker. otherwise he could keep the dogs inside when he was at work. he really needs to understand what sort of dogs he has and build into his life a way for them to become satisfied, which should stop the barking.
  13. maybe he can create a run with concrete paver's instead of a concrete slab then it wouldn't be permanent. he may have to spend time at home when the dogs don't know he is there to find out what the triggers are for the barking. he could then work on de-sensitizing them to the sounds. To me it sound like the dogs need training and something to do during the day as it sounds as if they are bored. he may need to look at doggy day care one day the next day at home and keep doing this whilst he is training the dogs. also, maybe they need to be able to see out of the yard so they know the noises are not threatening?
  14. i feed my dog Eagle Pack holistic duck dry food with pilchards or beef bones or chicken wings on top. i know this isn't a complete BARF diet but it makes me feel better than just giving her kibble or canned food (which is mostly water anyway)
  15. Oh my you are not concerned that there may be substances contaminating the meat? My oh my, that was indeed funny.
  16. That not correct. it needs raw bones, raw meat, offal, or dry food and canned food if you want. it needs a balanced dog diet so that it will thrive and grow well. Toy dogs should be treated just like big dogs, no matter what size a dog is it is still a dog. that included training too. even though they are small they need to be well behaved.
  17. it sounds a bit odd that they want $300 for her when they can no longer look after her. if it was me i would go with my gut reaction, but that's just my opinion.
  18. Let me know if children works - I also have a dog with allergies. Hmm maybe i need to try Harri on the same for his skin problems . ok i am working on a plan. have to be careful so i know what works or not. i will start will small children but don't know whether try them by wieght or age...hmmm....maybe age. i also wonder if hair colour would cause an allergic reaction...maybe also group by hair colour gosh it's getting difficult trying to find what the pup isn't allergic to
  19. My name is Jaxx'sBuddy and i feed my dog dry food. she gets skin allergies and really farts lots if i give her anything else. she is really healthy and has a nice shiney coat....but...i haven't really tried her on children....maybe i will try this tomorrow........i have a really annoying one in the street ......they have lots of bones...she eats grass so would this do for the greens? i just have to say this is the funniest thread i have read in a long time.
  20. after what is nutritionally good for my dog the next criteria is how badly does she fart on the meat? i may even go for a slightly more deficient meat if it lowers the fart count
  21. just wanted to say that when i said phone calls i meant LOTS of them over a period of time. i certainly got the third degree and was asked a ton of questions before i was accepted to have the puppy.
  22. i have done the same, got dogs from breeders through phone calls so if two people can "get lucky" then the law of averages is that there are more good breeders than bad.
  23. If it does not feel right, do not let your heart rule your head. i totally agree. no chance of my heart ruling my head!!!!!! i wish more people did the same.
