  1. I didn't list the specialties, not knowing what breeds the OP was looking for.
  2. Yep there's a few of them... 1 August - EP 21 August - Castle Hill Showground 22 August - EP 28 August - EP 29 August - EP
  3. The full list is here - download the document there. That's the full list for NSW. Look for the ones that have CH as the type. But in summary the next few are... 24 July at Erskine Park 30 July at Erskine Park 31 July at Erskine Park
  4. Lappies and Akitas are VERY different breeds both looks and temperament-wise (though they are both spitz). Head over to the spitz thread if you want to talk to us about the breed.
  5. Sorry but Lappies would not be suitable for someone who wants a BC type dog! Or one who will happily chase balls. All Lappies I know will only return a ball a couple of times before looking at you as if to say "if you want it stop throwing it away or get it yourself" While there are exceptions that is their nature generally. They also have typical spitz moments of "don't feel like it today". I'd tend to agree... I have met a few of lappies (including my two) who enjoy retrieving naturally (my older girl has a mild ball obsession) but they are both no where near as ball-orientated as border collies or kelpies that I've met. It's a bit of a luck of the draw so based on that I wouldn't recommend the breed as a whole if they are specifically looking for a ball-retriever. They could potentially end up with a complete couch potato who doesn't care about toys at all! I think there are much more suitable breeds out there. They are a working breed, so they are quite trainable if you are using suitable methods, but like any breed they have their challenges!
  6. Flat collar and lead. I HATE retractable leads. HATE HATE HATE.
  7. Please also check which ones will insure chronic conditions... You could be in for a world of pain if your insurer only insures for the first year of the condition! Our boy has allergies and our insurer insures him for his condition for life (Petplan).
  8. That is so exciting! I can't wait to get Jedi back into the ring and get some points on him! There's not really any neuter shows coming up though which is unfortunate! We have a new arrival... Fable (Janoby Ever So Blu)... She will be making her debut in August.
  9. Do they have to love people? They don't... They shouldn't dislike people that's for sure, but being indifferent to people can sometimes be an asset. My Keeshond, Jedi is really indifferent to other people (besides certain chosen ones lol) which makes him a great dog to work with kids who are unsure or who are scared of dogs and for the elderly who don't want a boisterous dog around that makes them nervous in case they jump or step on their feet, etc. Jedi will just mosey around with me and pays little attention to the residents. He sits next to them and just hangs out and stares at me the entire time. If they want to pat him, they can pat him. If they don't pat him he doesn't care. He creates a really non-confrontational environment that allows others to make the decision about how they will interact with him. If an individual resident wants more interaction, they know that they can ask for a piece of food from me and I teach them how to get Jedi to do a few tricks. In saying that, I wouldn't ever think of using a dog who disliked being petted or was not comfortable with being in a situation like that. So it just depends on each individual dog.
  10. Yeah I did... I had no idea Nikon lenses were so confusing!!! Can't wait until you get the AF-S!! Make sure you share your photos pleeeeeeeease!
  11. Yeah I wouldn't fill out any forms yet... A lot of what you need to write about is the dog's temperament and how they deal with stress, etc. Being 6 1/2 months old that could change as she matures, so it's best to wait until she is 12 months right before you are going to get her tested.
  12. Yep... It's probably safe to assume that every photo I take at the moment is with my 50mm 1.4! I love that lens!
  13. Nice work! I'll be cheering for you (so long as I'm not in the ring at the same time!) I think I'm last or 2nd last in the novice ring (can't remember exactly), so I probably will be able to watch!
  14. Yeah the wavy neck fur is so funny!! It'll straighten as she gets more coat in. Yep, Fable's show debut will be in August.
  15. Our dogs are in the house all day and all night. They are let out for a final pee at about 1130pm-12pm and they go for their morning toilet at about 630am... Some days they sleep in longer (with us!). Even our 11 week old pup is holding it (mostly) through the night now.
  16. Overdo the number of photos?! ARE YOU KIDDING?! MORE! MORE! MORE! I love the photo of you two together... It's so great she had an 'ah-ha!' moment!
  17. Love the comment about Alice in Wonderland! I agree! Here's the recipe! * 650g chicken liver (though we used lamb liver) * 1 cup wheat germ * 2 tablespoon whole wheat flour * 2 cup quick oatmeal * 2 whole eggs * 2 tablespoon peanut butter * 2 cloves garlic (optional) * 1 tablespoon olive oil Preheat oven 180 C. Liquefy liver and garlic in blender or processor. When smooth add eggs (shells also) and peanut butter. Blend until smooth. In a separate bowl combine dry ingredients. Add liver mixture and olive oil to dry mixture and mix well. Spread into a greased 9×9 baking dish. Bake 30 minutes. Let cool and cut into pieces. The recipe is off my friend's blog.. It's the Dog's Life
  18. Hooray! Delta Therapy Dog work is so rewarding... Good luck!!
