There is 1000's of photography forums, the best thing to do is google the kind of camera you have with forum such as "Nikon forum" or for instance I am thinking about getting a 7D so I joined the 7D Facebook page where other users post their photos and info and you can ask questions etc. You might find a few different forums it's just a matter of having a read and seeing which one is right for you. I find specific to your camera forums are good as you can get experience from others with the same equipment. Hope that makes sense.

I've seen the pics from M&DM lens and they are awesome!

Ok good idea, I was looking at the 2.8's didn't even realize there was a f4. I'll check it out. It might be good for the dogs running jumping etc.

Well I have changed my mind again, My OH has said he will buy me the 50mm for my birthday so I can get another lens when I get the camera, but heres the dilemma, I need to buy locally as I will probably be putting part of the price on finance so have to go with the local prices although I will get them to price match if i can. I want a good multi purpose lens (good for action dogs jumping etc) on a budget of about $700. I looked at the 24 - 70 which I would love or the 70 - 200 but both a little over my price range. Can anyone recommend any others that would do the job? Better than just the kit lenses?
-
I am so getting ONE love them!!
-
Thanks for the explanation, I understand now. Think I would rather buy local even if I have to pay extra $ Is canons warranty 2 years the same as Nikon, I did a search and some sites say one some say two?
-
Oh Poor puppy, Hope she gets all fixed up and feels better soon!
-
Thanks guys, I thinking read somewhere that the 5D is no where near as good as the 7D for action shots, it might have been Shell who mentioned that, I think she has both. I don't really understand about the import thing is there somewhere on the net that explains it Is it imported stuff and then the warranty is different? Are they all made at the same place? Sorry I sound dumb, I will more than likely buy from our local but getting them to price match is a great idea and they are usually pretty reasonable. I also joined POTN last night so I've been having fun trawling trough threads on there too!

Thanks so much for all the info and for putting up with all my questions. Geez once you start looking at all the different lenses and what they can do is amazing! CC, why do you think you like the 17 - 70 more than the 50mm is it just that you have a bit more range?
-
I'd never ignore you I appreciate the input, it's been great and I'm close to making up my mind although my OH said oh you will change it again. I agree with what you are saying for sure and the only reason I would have went with the camera with a kit lens was for a little length had I have needed it for something. But on rethinking the whole thing this evening this is the plan so tell me what you think.... 7D body and 50mm 1.4 lens for the time being, that's basically my budget as I also have to get new memory as all my other stuff is SD. how annoying I just got two 16 gig high speed SD cards too! Anyway what I thought was the 50 mm will be awesome for most stuff I want to do and I can save up for a better lens down the track and don't forget in the meantime If I am anywhere that I need a little bit of length I will have the G1X which should be here next week! CC thanks for the links, you have some awesome photos on your flicker pages, I especially liked the 50mm stuff, just lovely! Question, once I take pics with a compact flash card do I have to plug the whole camera Into the computer or can I get a compact flash reader? I have a feeling I may have asked this question but forgotten the answer. I should just google! Snook did you get 8 or 16 gig cards and are you filling them up quickly? I think Kirislin shoots in Raw most of the time, what about others, I haven't shot in raw hardly at all mostly jpeg and mostly cause I haven't got a clue what I'm doing! I've just got aperture for my MacBook so I will have a play with that when I get a chance.

I can see this thread turning sour as it has in the past, which is a pity. Especially if people think they can't come in here to ask questions incase they get shot down. I don't really get why people get so out of control, crazy and pedantic about what their dogs are being fed and it certainly shouldn't be anything to argue over. I think most of the people who post here are users and fans of the black hawk who have dogs that do well on it. I am one of them and glad that my dogs do well on it as its a great price and a great product! Lucky for me I guess. I don't think everyone here thinks black hawk is the best food out there more like the best food for their particular dog/s and I certainly haven't seen anyone judging anyone' else if their dogs don't do well on it. All I see is well meaning people who like to give advice to others. Also don't forget we have the actual founder (Sherel) of the food posting In here and keeping us informed on what's new and plans for Black Hawks future so I for one do t want to see this thread go to hell in a hand basket!

The low light thing is not really an issue, I do want to avoid the kit lenses if I can but if it means the difference of having another option I might have to go that way if I don't want to spend any more money, if that makes sense? Possibly the 50mm and the 28 - 135 might be a good combo, more so than the 50mm and the 15 - 85? copied this bit from MMs other thread Thing is I love taking the portrait shots of the dogs but my passion lies with the action shots and i think the 7D will do both easily but it may do the action just slightly better than the D7000. Well thats what I am hoping!
-
Well thats a bugger about the lens being stuck on. I appreciate the input, its all food for thought. I think the position I am in not wanting to spend over $2000 the better option would be to go for the 7D over the D700. At least you have the best of both worlds. Thing is I love taking the portrait shots of the dogs but my passion lies with the action shots and i think the 7D will do both easily but it may do the action just slightly better than the D7000. Well thats what I am hoping!

Well thats the thing, I think the more i read the more confused I get. I definatley want the 50 mm but something with a little more reach for the dog park etc would be good. I love taking action shots and the 50mm has been pretty good for this so far. Arghhh its all just to hard to know. I looked at the 15 - 85 but like you said similar to the 17 - 85 is it to much the same as the 50mm. I might be better going with the likes of 18 - 135, which I think comes as a kit lens, so I could get that and just add the 50mm. Or would i be better off with the 18 - 200 then I have that extra reach if i really want it?
-
Well I am still taking pics with my iPhone so excuse the quality, I have two I couldn't decide, we went to the hospital for an impromptu visit today as my OH's mum is in there and will be for some time the poor lady. 23/52 looking a bit happier in this one Thanks for the info M&Dm

I definatley want the 50mm and I hardly ever used my zoom lens on my D80 it was a tamron 18 - 250, nice lens but I just never needed to use it apart from the occasional moon shot. You have seen most of my stuff on Facebook, I love action shots and also portraits and I have used the 50mm for both. I did think the 15 - 85 would give me a little bit of variety if i wanted or needed to get a bit closer to the subject which is usually a dog. But i may have to go with either the 18 - 200 or the 18 - 135. Id probably lean towards the 18 - 135. I know I will use the 50mm the most but just want to have a change if need be. and yes he was definatley a tool, don't think he had a clue but sounded like he thought he did!
-
Just found the answer. But still curious about why you changed so soon after getting the 7D?
-
Ive just been reading an older thread on my mission to decide what Camera and Lens I am going to upgrade too and came across THIS thread from last year, just curious about why you changed from the Canon 7D to the Nikon D700? or did you just want both? Only curious as I am leaning towards the 7D, was there something you didn't like about it to make you go to the Nikon?
-
Well Im up to doing a ring around to get some prices etc and geez salesman sure know how to put a spanner in the works! I told him I wanted prices on the Nikon and the Canon and he told me what I wanted to know but then went into a full spiel about how I should consider the D3200 over the D7000 and the 600D over the 7D as the 7D is now getting old He was quite cocky and he really annoyed me, I guess he is trying to do his job but I really felt like he didn't have a clue but only sounded like he did. I have been doing some reading about lenses and the whole thing is a bit confusing. I was trying to stick to a budget of around $2000 and i definatley want the 50mm 1.4 so I am tossing up which other lens to get. If I get the 7D which is the way i am swaying i like the 15 - 85 has anyone with a canon got this particular lens? Id love some feed back about it. Actually I would love it if the Canon people could tell me what lenses they have and which ones they love the best. :)

Help, My Dog Is Mysteriously Scared Of Me!

That is weird, hopefully one of the resident dog whisperers will be along with some more suggestions, Its not like he would be going through a fear stage as he is older now. Perhaps you have inadvertently given him a fright without realizing at some stage and it has stayed with him? -

Mmmm strange one, have you recently had a radical hair cut, or perhaps changed purfume? Looks or smell are usually the first things the dogs notice. Hope he comes good and things get back to normal soon. Others might have more of an idea! -
 So true!! Sheena that is one impressive stash. Well done! I find with my guys, I have one who just maintains weight, he gets more than the others also he is a bit bigger, one maintains weight well and the other two are on the tubby side so I have to watch them. But over all Im very happy with Black Hawk. I guess dogs are like people in that respect definatley not all the same and different food suit one more than the other.
