  1. I’m sorry about your boy ❤️ I will check out the group. Lotti’s is congenital, the person that bred her sold her at 8 weeks but the buyer returned her and asked for a refund because of her vomiting so I know it’s been going on from very young, she’s now 7 months. I’m hoping her condition stays manageable, with 6 dogs in the house it won’t be easy if she gets any worse.
  2. Thank you for the replies, at the moment she’s not regurgitating food only liquid, she was skinny when I got her but I’m feeding her and my other pup still three times a day due to their size (she’s only 3.3 kg and he’s 2.2kg) and that has put weight on her. Her quality of life is very good at least at the moment and if that changes she will be given her wings. Can anyone tell me if this is a condition that gets progressively worse or does it normally stay the same. I have been advised to raise all food and water bowls but not worry about a Bailey chair as she’s not bad enough to worry about that at this stage.
  3. So my day has just got even worse both our pups went in today to be desexed, have retained baby teeth removed and Lotti to have X-rays, Lotti has been diagnosed with Megaesophagus and Eli we have found out has Lingually displaced mandibular canine teeth, we have been told he needs to see a dental specialist and also that it’s a hereditary condition and we have been advised to contact his breeder and expect at least a partial refund of his purchase price but preferably a full refund. Can anyone tell me if this is something I should expect from his breeder, the condition could end up costing us thousands.
  4. One of our two pups has just been diagnosed with Megaesophagus, at the moment she is only regurgitating fluid with the occasional bit of food and I was wondering if anyone on here has lived with a dog with the condition, I would like to ask a few questions in regards to its progression etc.
  5. I think it all depends on personality rather than sex, we have 5 females and 1 male at the moment but over the last 25 years our pack has changed as we’ve lost and added dogs and for me I would never have more than one male in the house again not because of fighting but because of them marking their territory on stuff they shouldn’t, the only serious fights we’ve ever had (and had to rehome a dog because of it) was between male and female.
  6. We’ve had similar experience a couple of months ago, after losing Rascal recently we decided to start looking for a chihuahua as we had promised my younger daughter we could get a second chi, I found what I thought was the perfect boy on here, not a young pup but not too old and appeared to be a good match for our family and lifestyle, the only contact for the breeder was email so I sent a detailed email with details of our family, other dogs and what this dogs day to day life would look like if we were able to adopt him, I also asked a few questions about the dog that the breeder hadn’t put in the add, a week went by and no response so I sent a second email just to check if they’d received the first one and still got nothing and the dog was still advertised, in the end we gave up, it left me feeling quite upset and angry, we did however end up getting a 4 month old chi pup from a local breeder and a malt x shihtzu pup from one of my customers so I guess it was a happy ending however I don’t think I’ll go to that much trouble in the future as it’s not the first time it’s happened so I completely understand where the OP is coming from.
  7. How many vets do you or have you dealt with???? As someone else commented not many vets will pts a very young healthy puppy just because an owner says it bites, again especially when it is so rare to see a seriously aggressive dog that young.
  8. Wow reading this thread is shocking, one of the reasons I no longer come on here very often, Coneye your attitude is disgusting, without seeing the dog in action nobody knows exactly what is happening, I have handled a lot of ‘aggressive’ dogs over the years including ones that have bitten their owners badly enough to require medical care and almost every one of them there was a cause and it was usually directly related to something the owner was doing or had done in the past, a few were found to have brain tumours, it is quite rare to get a genuinely aggressive dog with no cause and even rarer in a young puppy. I hope the op gets the professional help she needs and the dog doesn’t end up handballed from home to home or in the hands of someone that wants to encourage aggression.
  9. I have just found this post and thought I’d put in my thoughts, this is a baby and if it is serious biting there is something very wrong, bull breeds can be growly and mouthy when playing so are you sure it is aggression and not teething behaviour? If this puppy has come from a house with young kids it may have been roughly handled and possibly injured which could explain a lot. As others have suggested you need a thorough vet check and I would also advise you to take your puppy to a good Chiro incase there is something wrong that a vet isn’t likely to find. If you can’t find an answer and it is serious biting I wouldn’t muck around I would seriously consider euthanising, I had to euthanise an eight month old pup a couple of months ago, was heartbreaking as I rescued her and her sisters from an abusive home where they were being starved, she became mouthy when over stimulated and ended up biting my 15 year old daughter on the face (she was a huge dog already) just missing her eye, she slept on my 6 year old daughters bed every night and was such a gorgeous girl but there was no way after an incident like that was she going to remain in my house or be passed on to anyone else.
  10. Your son sounds a bit like my youngest daughter she has been very particular about getting another chihuahua which we recently finally added to our family, I can’t advise on breeders but I would personally look at long haired chihuahuas or bichons, I’ve found Pomeranian breeders don’t like selling to family’s with young kids which was one of the main reasons we didn’t get one when we got our first chihuahua and I’ve met too many papillons that are snappy so they are a breed I would avoid with kids, also finding a well bred Maltese is extremely hard, keep in mind any fluffy breed is going to require ongoing grooming. Getting two pups at the same time can be a bit more difficult if you’re not experienced but if there’s two people to train them and you enrol them in a good puppy school then later follow thru with proper obedience training it’s doable.
  11. I have no issue with signing a contract not to breed you can always find another breeder without such contracts however if the dog is no good for breeding/showing then price should reflect this, asking upwards of $3000 for a family pet is ridiculous, I do have a big issue with breeders that desex young puppies before they go off to their new homes, any breeder that does this I would steer clear of.
  12. Deeds your experience with chi’s is clearly very different to mine, my own and the ones I groom are all lovely little dogs and not at all what you’re describing.
  13. Bath, condition then blow dry with a force dryer, Aloveen conditioner is good because you don’t need much and it can be left in, when the coat is almost dry start brushing while drying, once fully dry comb through. if you do this every 4 weeks with a bit of brushing and combing in between you shouldn’t have an issue, the only tools you should need are a pin brush, slicker brush and comb.
  14. Chihuahua’s are big dogs in a little body, they would be my first pick, I have never found them to be overly yappy and as long as they are trained and socialised from the beginning they are great little dogs.
  15. We never made it to the beach yesterday, I knew he wasn’t good and I was too worried he wouldn’t cope with the long car ride so instead we went to the local park where he’s enjoyed most of his daily walks (before he got sick) he pottered around happily marking every tree, my mother in law came down and got to see him and say goodbye, as did my mum on Sunday. Last night he refused to eat and the same this morning, I knew it was time, called the vets but he collapsed before we got there, he perked up for a couple of mins after they put the cannula in, just long enough to say good bye and now he’s gone. Taken this morning not long before he collapsed, he was on my bed with my two daughters and then spent his final moments in my arms both at home and at the vets. Thank you everyone for the support, we have had many losses but this has been the hardest and I’ll always feel like the luckiest person to have had him be part of our lives.
  16. I have written and rewritten this post multiple times and am still struggling to write it. For the last couple of months Rascal has been losing condition and showing a range of unexplained symptoms, after multiple blood tests and finally an ultrasound early in the week we have been given a devastating diagnosis, he has a huge cancerous mass on his spleen, it’s inoperable and with the results of his bloods the vets believe it is affecting his bone marrow and is in his lymph nodes, at best he only has weeks left at worst it could rupture at anytime which would mean instant collapse and death. we have started palliative care to keep him as comfortable as possible, he is unable to eat full meals without vomiting due to the amount of space the tumour is taking up in his abdominal area so I’m hand feeding lots of small meals each day. He has moments of bouncing around happily but due to the anaemia he wears out extremely fast. I have taken Tue off and I am going to take him for a drive to the beach where we used to live, it was his favourite place before we moved and then a stop in for one last visit at my husbands parents as he has always loved going there since he was a puppy and they will have the chance to say goodbye. Its his 13th birthday on the 29th of Aug, we were planning on having a special day for him but I don’t think we’re going to get that opportunity. He has been by my side for 12 1/2 years, he always came to work with me before I started working from home so the only time we’ve been separated is when I’ve been in hospital, I’m trying to stay strong and not get emotional as I know it upsets him but it is so so hard. The rest of our pack clearly know he isn’t well and the dynamics have changed, Maisie our little chi seems to be the one that is mostly by his side, although they don’t play together and he’s never shown much interest in her (Abby and Abby’s daughter Mia are the two he adores and mostly interacts with) she seems to understand he’s very unwell.
  17. I would advise doing an ultrasound asap, we had a similar issue with our last poodle turned out to be a stump pyometra.
  18. As a long time professional groomer I would discourage anyone from starting up mobile grooming, too many risks and not many benefits. if you are really keen to become a groomer the best option is to find an experienced groomer to train and mentor you, I have seen way too many people do courses and come out with no idea how to actually handle the dogs which is a recipe for disaster.
  19. We have 5 dogs, 4 female and 1 male, our pack prior to that was 3 male and 1 female, I’ve lived in a pack situation for over 20 years and only twice had serious issues between dogs, both times it was between a male and female. With the experiences I’ve had I’ve found it depends on personality more than gender, I personally will never again have more than one male at a time as the only problem I’ve encountered with more than one male (even desexed) is the competition marking territory including in the house. Edited to add: for us 3 is our magic number and the easiest to manage. It allows a single dog to be taken out on its own and the other 2 still have each other, I’ve never had the issue of one being left out.
  20. She’s gone, I’m sorry I don’t have the mental energy to explain everything, she slowly went downhill over the weekend and I knew it was time to let her go. Her last pic, there was so much pain in her eyes, the sparkle completely gone.
  21. I’m quite upset writing this but I thought I would do one last update. Today at 11:45 Katie will be given her wings, she’s had two rough nights and I knew yesterday it was time, the spark is gone from her eyes and all I can see now is a dog that is exhausted and ready to say goodbye. They are the most amazing species, she was let down by humans more than once, neglected for years, clearly in pain, yet still so trusting. I promised to do my best for her, I wish I could do more.
  22. The size of mine was (I think) $160, that is fully framed and ready to hang, also includes a genuine certificate of authenticity.
  23. I highly recommend this artist, I’ve had two portraits done, one of my Cassie (kelpie) and one of my husbands girl Abby (bearded collie) she will work with one or multiple photos and will make sure it’s perfect and you’re 100% happy before framing is done and payment is taken. She is lovely lady and can’t speak highly enough of her and her work. Pics don’t do them justice.
  24. For anyone following Katie’s story, we have found out she is 13 1/2, her original owner is deceased so she has been fed but received no other care for the past 5 years, she has clearly been mistreated along with neglected as we’re seeing a few things indicating a fear response but over all she’s a happy girl. We have her on two supplements as well as Meloxicam and we are adding in some more pain relief this afternoon (once the vets have dispensed it) she now has a bed fit for a queen and has become part of our pack. We have her booked in, in 4 weeks along with Rascal to both go in together for their dentals.
  25. Woohoo Katie has been given the all clear, heart sounds good and bloods were all normal, we’ve started her on Meloxicam to help with the arthritis (will also be looking into the other suggestions) and she’s booked to go in a few weeks to have a dental along with Rascal!!! The vets believe her heavy panting is pain related so hoping that will settle once her pain is under control.edited to add sorry for the sideways photos have no idea why they’re coming out like that.
