  1. Sometimes people are all fine about the "issues" that any dog may come with - but when they have to live the reality of it all... well... it can be a bit more than they bargained for...

The great thing is that yellowgirl has taken Banshee back, and she's doing just fine now...

  2. Be careful... those small breed dogs have a nasty habit of turning you to the "dark side"...

Repeat after me... "I'm a big dog person... I'm a big dog person... I'm a big dog person..."

The above doesn't always work, but you can try to convince others by saying it... *grin*

  3. I've had plenty of bitches together over the years - large breeds (mostly Rotties), and never had anything more than a tiff (no wounds)...

I currently have 2 bitches who have decided that they don't want to "play nice" with each other after nearly 5 years being perfectly fine with each other. I have them separated, and just have to do the switch and shuffle thing so they aren't together now.

My Lab would kill my Rotti/Pittie if there wasn't someone there to break up the fight - it took me, 3 policemen, capsicum spray (no use), batons (no use), to keep them from killing each other when they had their last fight (in my back yard) - and I got a discount rate to patch them up at the vets... cost $1400. Funnily enough, it's the old girl (Rotti X) that will usually start by snapping at the Lab over something stupid - but the Lab has intent to finish it once and for all... neither will back down either.

  4. Mum looks like a Shih/Schnauzer to me... very pretty.

Hard to tell what pups are until about 6-7 weeks - when they actually start to look like dogs... *grin*

The red ones are a lovely colour... they will get snapped up quickly once they are ready for adoption methinks...

  5. I currently have 2 bitches (large breed) who I will never let run together again. I had 4 fights in 2.5 years - the last 2 fights had 15 months between them. After the last fight and and a whopping great vet bill to patch them up, they simply will never be allowed to be in the same place at the same time. It's lots of fussing and farting to make sure that one is secured while the other is out, but both of the dogs are much happier for it - and they don't have to share me, space, or anything.

Add to the above the fact that I foster care puppies for rescue, and both of my own dogs help me socialise them, it can almost be a fulltime job some days to make sure everyone gets their share of the attention... lol!

I cannot rehome either of my girls because I know exactly what they are capable of when pushed the right way... separating them permanently works for them, and the alternative... well - that's not an alternative in my books. They are my "babies" and I'm happy as long as they are happy with the separation (and switch and shuffle) routine.

My honest advice - as someone in excactly the same position you find yourself in - is to either work out how to permanently separate them and keep both... or (sadly) euthanaise the one that starts all the barneys.

  6. They are cute - but you should see the claw marks on my arms and legs the little beggars gave me yesterday... they got their nails clipped last night... *grin*

Their names are Pudding and Pumpkin... Pumpkin is the one checking out my hand in the first photo, and Pudding is the one in the other 2 photos...

  7. How cute is this?

    ... or this?

I have 2 of them to foster... lucky me! *grin*

Can't wait until I get some time when there is better light - those were taken as the sun was going down... I'd rather a better focus, but had the camera in sports mode to try to get a few action shots with those huge ears flapping...

This is as close to that as I got...

    Damn these pups are cute!!

  8. We had a Lab cross as our first dog as kids... she still has a huge chunk of my heart as she was one of the best dogs ever...

Our next dog had some Lab in him somewhere apparently - he was the "farm" pet dog...

When I left home, my first dog looked like a bearded collie/BC cross, but her mum was a Goldie...

Then I found my very first Rotti... Woosie was my soul mate - my total heart and soul - we bonded in ways one only ever dreams of. 6 more Rotties have come and gone, and I adore the breed, but there will only ever be one Woosie...

I now have a Rotti/Pittie and a crazy blonde Lab - and I foster all sorts of pups for rescue.

I suppose you could just call me a "dog whore" - I'll take them ALL thanks... lol!

Deep down though, I reckon Rotties are my fave of all...

  9. It can be difficult taking photos of black dogs... even more difficult if you have one black and one blonde like I have - you gotta get the lighting just right AND the dogs exactly where you want them... lol!

If you can afford one, I'd highly recommend the Canon 55-250mm IS lens - I paid around $300 for mine, and I love it!

Oh - and I love Sports mode on the 450D - hold the button and it snaps away merrily... hehe! Gotta get at least one good shot that way... lol!

Get yourself a nice big memory card too... mine is a 16Gb - holds around 2500 photos.

I also have a second battery (always have a spare charged battery) - saves tears when the battery carks it and you have the dogs out doing lots of fun things...
