  1. My local pet shop keeps trying to sell me Mollies as male guppies. I do NOT ask pet shop advice any more.
  2. Petbarn in Coconut Grove are about to start selling Dr B's BARF patties, they gave us 2 to try with our dogs. Prices are about $22 for 12, and they have the cat ones too.
  3. Oh my god. That was so incredible. Brought both my mother and I to tears!
  4. She was 6 months when she was desexed, didn't go on heat at all, I'm guessing it's normal, it looks like I've seen in other bitches, but will take her to the vet this week to be sure she's ok. Thanks you guys.
  5. It was more the smell that first made me think she was dirty, she's short haired but spends a LOT of time digging and lying in dirt or swimming in local lakes. She's the first dog I've raised from a pup so I'm a bit anxious about things.
  6. She's got a smell from there, and when I do clean it the wipes always come away very dirty. I don't expect her to obsessively lick, but in the whole time I've had her and been with her while she does the rest of her cleaning, she's never once cleaned there. It's been about a week since I last cleaned her myself and it's only just now started to appear sore.
  7. My 8-9 month old desexed bitch shows no interest in keeping her girlie bits clean. I've taken to daily cleaning with baby wipes, but I think she's getting an infection because she clenches any time someone touches the general area. I've never had a bitch before, so I have no idea what I can do to get her to do her chores! Is this normal behaviour? Is it because she's from a large (11) litter and her mother just didn't teach her?
  8. In a word Midol? Company! The issue about inside/outside as I see it is more about company for the dog than containment. If a family works and the dog sleeps alone outside, how many hours a day does this social animal actually have company. Add another dog or allow the dog to sleep inside and you add another 8-10 hours of company for the dog either way. No modern, educated animal keeping organisation willingly keeps pack animals as individuals. Many suburban dogs are subjected to social isolation for the bulk of their entire lives. Show me the dogs barking in my neighbourhood and I'd be prepared to put money on the fact that they rarely make it out of the back yard to the inside of the house or anywhere else. Dedicated dog owners CAN provide a good life for an outside dog. But its far more demanding than allowing a dog even limited access inside. And its far too easy for busy family to lose sight of the fact that the dog is out there alone while you go about your life inside. Dogs need social interaction. Few, if any dogs would willing choose to be alone awake OR asleep. My parents dog is a bad night barker, and he sleeps inside. Any time he goes outside at night he's barking at the noises, real or imagined.
  9. I have a few aggression/rage issues which I'm currently getting help for, but my dog is a very happy, confident playful dog... But growing up my grandfather who was a nasty old man, ALWAYS raised his dogs to be aggressive. He gave me one of the most beautiful Red Heelers because the dog wasn't aggressive enough, and we had to put him down because he bit my brothers and a neighbour. I spent so many hours sitting in his kennel with him... my first heart dog.
  10. I know a shooter and I'm sure he knows shooters, who, if I asked, would supply me the bunnies they manage to get. But I'm not keen on the idea that these bunnies might have picked up mixo or the more current virus (what's its name?) that has been used to eradicate them. Wow! $16 is pricey!! If I find a supplier, this might have to be for special occasions only . Hey, I'd happily pay $16 for a bunny for my girl. I priced them at Christmas as her Christmas treat and the cheapest was $43! I guess that's what happens when you live where there isn't a bunny problem.
  11. Maybe you need to appeal to the beagle in him and make the toys smell yummy?
  12. Maybe he's just not that into balls. Some dogs aren't.
  13. Heh, I use the pawpaw when I get tattoos done! That stuff is awesome!
  14. My girl is 6-7 months old and starts carrying on at 6am to be let out of her crate. So she gets let outside for wees then it's straight back to bed until 6.30 when my parents (and their dog) get up. She sulks and huffs for that half an hour but she's learning there's no use in crying because it gets ignored.
  15. My pup loves chasing and eating moths, I prefer her eat moths than lizards
  16. How much salt does a 6 month old border collie x need? Since the heat has really picked up in Darwin, I've found that Daisy will lick anyone she can find that is sweating. She'll do it for a fair while, 5 or so minutes if she can. Is this because she needs more salt? Also, what's the quickest and safest way to cool her down if she gets too hot? I've been giving her a bowl of ice cubes to play with during the hottest parts of the day, I've also given her a few bone ice blocks. This is her first wet season and she's really disliking the heat. Thanks
  17. Crating them at night makes life so much easier. Especially for toilet training.
  18. I'm trying to find a good place to source RMBs in Darwin. I buy a huge box of chicken carcesses from Lenards every few weeks, but both Woolies and COles (in Palmerston) can't supply the lamb/beef bones I need. Just wondering where people get their bones from?
  19. I left my girl home alone with her bucket on after her desexing. I was gone for 4 hours and in that time her and our other dog managed to chew it off and kill it.
  20. My girl has started coming and sitting in her crate if I'm at the computer because she gets a treat every night that she goes in there on command. So She's taken to just checking to see if the treats work all the time.
  21. Lennards should also do a HUGE box of chicken carcasses for about $15. Lasts for weeks.
  22. I was actually more curious as to whether what I was doing myself was the right thing to do. However I don't tend to express myself well, which causes a lot of confusion. Either way I've been given advice which I've found helpful and so will ask Troy to lock this.
  23. Ok, so based on advice here I rushed straight out and got rid of both dogs and my cats. Wow! Life is so much better *rolls eyes* Seriously, I spoke to my trainer at obedience who has seen our dogs interact and he said to keep doing what I'm doing. She seems to be ok with other dogs now that she's spent time around more of them, so possibly I'm worrying about nothing. So thanks for your help?
