  1. I've already found a place to rehome her too if it gets too bad, or I can't find a pet friendly rental house. I guess all I can do for now is keep leashing her when I see them getting rough. Our other dog has already had his ear ripped open from stuff like this with my ex's dog so you'd think they'd listen.
  2. I'm trying my hardest to stop them playing so rough. She gets put in time out, or leashed when she's being rough, but seeing as I'm the only one doing it, and I'm not there all day to enforce it she's not learning she needs to play nice. Getting a professional in wouldn't help because my father would still just let them do it. When my vet told me that my cat needs a special diet to stop him getting sick my parents just keep feeding him the stuff that was killing him. They don't listen!
  3. My pup is about 5 months old now, and the play "fighting" between her and our older (~7 years) dog is starting to get a bit full on. They haven't had an actual fight, but there's been some cuts and bites on each of them. My parents just say "they're just being dogs" but as my Daisy gets bigger she's getting more powerful, and she thinks she can play with all dogs like this. How do I know when it's still playing and when it's becoming a dominance arm wrestle? Is there any way I can teach her not to play like that with him, bearing in mind my parents will not help in any way and my father spends all day with them both. Help!
  4. my puppy is on BARF, and she's never been healthier. Shiny coat, no bad breath, loads of energy. Best thing I ever did.
  5. It is really horrible at first. Daisy used to scream when I put her in her crate at night. She would also pull at the wires with her teeth and cut her gums or get stuck. And it was the most heartbreaking thing ever. BUT, the first night she sleeps the whole way through with her crate door open makes it all worth it.
  6. Daisy loved the plushies. Her monkey, bunny and snake have gotten us through some loooong nights. Now the monkey has been disembowelled and the snake is full of little tears. The bunny is still kicking though! They kept her company the first few nights when she was adjusting to not having a litter of puppies with her.
  7. Valium in humans takes more than a few weeks to show any benefits, I'm guessing it would be the same in dogs.
  8. My puppy started swallowing her necks whole, now she gets turkey wings and chicken frames. She loves them and they keep her quiet and not chewing my shoes!
  9. Someone told me that pups are born with worms, so maybe its always had them?
  10. I wasn't aware of any dog pools in Darwin? She went in up to her legs yesterday, but was more interested in playing with the other dogs. Once we fished her out, I just dried her off a little bit and let her go so I didn't make a big deal out of it.
  11. She seems ok this morning, ate her morning chicken with the usual gutso and now is annoying her our other dog. I'm a little concerned about water in her ears, as hers have gone floppier than usual due to teething.
  12. Normally she is on lead, but we were at the off leash park and she's never wanted to swim there before so we never thought about it. Will invest in a lighter leash for lagoon swimming. She's got a long rope for the beach but it's heavy when it's wet which isn't much of an issue 'cause I'm always in the water with her there. Can't do that at the dog park.
  13. So my Daisy is just learning to swim and today she got the courage to go swimming in the lagoon at our local dog park for the first time! yay! So she's swimming around and having a lovely time, the next thing I know she's drowning! She'd gotten tipped up on her butt and couldn't get level again and panicked. Our other stupid dog wasn't helping, he kept trying to save her and ended up pushing her under a few times. I ended up swimming to her in the gross water and pushed her over so she could swim back. Scariest thing ever! So to my point, Is this likely to stop her from swimming again? Also is there anything I need to keep an eye out for health wise?
  14. Since switching my puppy over to a raw diet I've seen some major changes in her health. Her coat is shiny, her poos are less offensive, and her gums are pink! I totally reccomend it.
  15. Daisy doesn't chew my shirts, only my shoes, so I'm lucky in that respect. She's at the point now where she doesn't need my clothes to sleep on as long as she can sense I'm in the room she's ok.
  16. I've got my 3rd out of 4 PPS classes tonight and the pups still haven't been allowed off leash, which I think is a good thing. They spend most of the classes playing on leash which is good for my girl to learn how to play with smaller dogs.
  17. I found that giving my puppy whatever shirt I'd worn that day to sleep with in her crate settled her down faster, doing that makes her feel like she's still with you.
  18. Didn't work with my baby, she worked it out pretty quickly.
  19. Daisy used to hate her crate, she'd sleep in it but she didn't like it. So I moved some stuff around in my room and the crate now runs length ways along one of my walls in line with my bed and that seems to have helped. She's lying in there now chewing her Kong and not helping me tidy up!
  20. We took her for a run and a swim (or three) at the beach late yesterday afternoon, and she was so tired that apart from 2 wee breaks she slept until 6AM!
  21. I went back to silent wee breaks last night and boy did she carry on! Luckily it's a long weekend this weekend so a lack of sleep won't be too bad.
  22. We're all pretty much in bed by 9 at the latest. She's been really good with her sleeping up until this week. The night we started Puppy School started this new sleeping pattern
  23. He sleeps with my parents in their room, she sleeps in her crate in my room.
  24. I'm home by about 5.30 and between then and bedtime it's the walking/feeding/playing/training period. She is always knackered when she goes to bed. I will stop giving her a bone at night, and ignore her crying. She's got that hideous high pitch bark at the moment and that is hard to ignore at 2am. I thought maybe she's sleeping too much during the day, but she doesn't sleep that much. She spends most of her day playing with our other dog or "helping" my father.
  25. She was going to be a cattle dog, but ended up being a Border Collie X. She would have ended up being dumped if I hadn't have taken her. She's about 4 months maybe? She's dead to the world by 8.30, and I seriously can't stay up much later. I've just conquered my llife-long insomnia so I'm not willing to risk that kicking in again. How can I get her to stay up a little longer? Paganman, we don't have daylight savings, it's ALWAYS dark at 8.30.
