  1. If you only brought her home yesterday, then she is still probably missing her mum & litter mates. What was she like when you picked her out of the litter What did the breeder use for treats?? She wont come when called, because she hasn't been trained to. Try offering her yummy treats before you feed her, or if she likes her food, get her used to eating bits of it out of your hand. And be prepared to put in a lot of effort training your pup but just little bits at a time...cause she is a BC & will thrive on learning new things. ;)
  2. From the first day I had my puppy home, strict instructions were that he was to get nothing eg. food, pats, let through the door, any attention at all, until he had all four feet on the ground. He caught on pretty quick that the best way to get what he wanted was to remain calm. My ten YO granddaughter visited last week & I gave her this instruction, but he was way too excited & it didn't work (especially with her screaming & waving her hands in the air as kids do) . So I told her to put some old cloths on & armed her with a pocket full of yummy treats. Then she staid still while he jumped & as soon as he put all 4 feet on the ground, I clicked & she treated. He caught on very quick, then I told her to get down to his level as a reward. Wish I could get more visitors so I could repeat this excercise with strangers. ;)
  3. Callicoma Kelpies & Pet Supplies can beat Priceless Pets by a long shot http://www.callicoma.com.au/
  4. My little bugger just did this...on the loungeroom carpet He has been so good but doesn't really ask to go outside, just relies on me to put him out on the grass in time. This is only the second accident he has had inside & was probably my fault. I usually lock him up for half an hour then take him out on the grass before I let him run around inside.

    Puppy Teeth

That is a very interesting article...thanks
  6. If anyone is going to the Coffs Harbour Trial this coming weekend & would like to pick up some Black Hawk, we can bring it in, but you would need to PM me or email the above & let me know. I will also have some free samples there if any one wants one to try.
  7. Round Up (Glysophate) is fine as long as you let it dry. You can even get a "Frog Friendly" Roundup now, so if it doesn't harm frogs then I don't see how it could harm your dog used to the directions & allowed to dry. I have a lot of little green frogs in my garden & I would rather use this than boiling water, or detergent or vinegar...ouch... When you think of all the other "dog friendly" chemicals we pump into our dogs, glysophate is nothing.
  8. I keep in touch with my puppy's breeder via Facebook. With my older girl I kept communicating with her breeder, but the communications seemed to drop off suddenly when her ears pricked I thought they were lovely ears & couldn't wait to show her.... I think she felt a bit embarrassed by them
  9. When I was feeding my girl VAN + Raw, I was giving her a 1000 mg fish oil capsule with her food + joint formula + Livamol. I never bothered breaking the capsule, just put it on top & she would scoff it down. Now she is on B/Hawk + RMB, I no longer bother with the supplements. I still have a kilo of Dr. Bruces Joint Formula left over.....maybe I might start adding a small amount to her food, just so it doesn't go to waste.
  10. Yes....digging in the soil. My girl uses her nose as a shovel
  11. I am of the belief that these breeds of dogs are stolen for illegal dog fighting.

    Puppy Teeth

So I still have the "I must chew everything up" stage to go. He has been so good so far. With Bindi it didn't matter how many other nice things I gave her to chew, she still destroyed everything she could get her teeth into, including the timber walls of the house.

    Puppy Teeth

My BC pup, Cricket, is now 4 months old. I seem to remember with my older BC that she was well & truely chewing things up by this time. Do I still have this to "look forward" to with Cricket, At what age do they start to get their adult teeth. Thought it may have been above in the "puppy development" section.
  14. Just an update on my girl's nose....pretty sure it was Diggers Nose as suggested & another DOLer PM me with the suggestion to try some FiltaBac. I have been putting that on now for about 4 days & it has almost completely gone. The FiltaBac is an antibacterial protective barrier suncream. Thanks everyone
  15. I would imagine that delivery for a small bag would cost the same as a large bag as it would probably be sent by Australia Post. The courier rate is for articles up to 25kg & is being subsidised by Mark to make this great food more accessible for people living in rural areas such as ours. It was recommended to me by breeders on DOL when I got my puppy, to put him straight onto the Adult Formula, that way I wouldn't need 2 different bags. For a bit of extra protein I just add a RMB, meat, egg or sardines. You could PM me with your address if you wanted me to check for you.
  16. This is in addition to Riverland Kennels. So NSW now has two to cover different areas. Previously we had to get ours down from Queensland, as that was the closest to us & it was costing us $25 in freight to bring it down to the Mid North Coast NSW.
  17. This is what I do. Of course I started out with two healthy dogs to begin with & look after them. You have to pay the first $100 of each treatment anyway. If either of my dogs needed major vet work, then I would draw on my super or go out & borrow it without hesitation. $100 per month is $1200 per year, which is $12,000 over 10 years, so I am sure it would average itself out over the life of the dog. You just have to look at the huge profits insurance companies make. I think that insurance only covers your dog till a certain age (could be wrong)anyway. I would rather put the money I save on insurance into things like really good food/parasite control/training/maintaining my fenceed yard etc...all the things which put your dog into the vet in the first place. JMHO & of course, you need a float to start with just in case. ETA...to correct my figures...must have had a seniors moment
  18. I would be getting two apropriate size metal crates with canvas covers. Not sure how old the dogs are, but I know if I put both of my dogs in the same crate, they would have me awake at night with them playing together in the crate. You would need to train them to love their crates.
  19. I would just like to let you all know that we have a new Black Hawk distributor for NSW. Based in Coffs Harbour on the Mid North Coast, they are able to deliver to most areas from Newcastle to Tweed Heads & over the Tablelands to Inverell/Armidale/Tamworth etc. for a flat rate of $10 per bag. These would of course, be areas which are normally serviced by couriers, so you would need to confirm this when ordering. You can PM me for more details or get in contact with Sue or Mark at email: [email protected]. Pick up is available from Coffs Harbour & Glenreagh. ETA...We will be at the Port Macquarie Trial next weekend 6th & 7th August, if you want to pick up a sample of Black Hawk. Just ask any of the organisers for Sue or Murray with the Choc. BC called Bindi. We are taking down some orders & probably have room for just one more 20 kg bag if anybody want it. Just PM me or email at the above address.
  20. Thanks guys for the suggestions. I have looked into both Google & Weebly. Not having ever done this before, it seems that they say the web page is free but then they want money for you to use it. Is this the way it is or am I missing something
  21. It also has 2% wheat in it... Black Hawk adult Lamb & Rice is wheat, corn & soy FREE. The puppy formula contains 2% wheat ;)
  22. Does anyone else use their Black Hawk for training treats. I find it especially good for clicker/shaping or teaching hand targets etc because the kibble is just the right size for this. Whatever amounts I use for treats I can then subtract from their daily ration.
  23. We always stay in dog friendly caravan parks either in dog friendly cabins or the caravan. We take our crates along & the dogs are happy to be on a long lead attached to their crates...they get lots of walks & excercise during the day. Having a yard would be no better for us....I don't think I could leave my dogs in a strange yard while I go out for a bit...anything could happen to them. Much safer in a crate, or if it's night time, in the car if we want to go out to dinner.
  24. My dog picks them up from just around the lawn...I do have a garden though. I think they are worse around coastal areas but they are still there & bad in summer in the inland area where we live, which is probably about 30 klm inland as they crow flys. The only thing that gives us a bit of a break here, is the frosts. I have a friend who lives a bit further inland, & she doesn't get ticks, so ....don't know...sorry
  25. It's actually Wandering Jew, not sure where the name came from, but I suppose political correctness will one day have it changed to Wandering Dew ...that name almost makes it sound "heavenly" which it certainly is not...it is so hard to eradicate even with herbicides. I have a lot of it, & it doesn't bother my dogs, but I would much rather NOT have it.
