My dog picks them up from just around the lawn...I do have a garden though. I think they are worse around coastal areas but they are still there & bad in summer in the inland area where we live, which is probably about 30 klm inland as they crow flys. The only thing that gives us a bit of a break here, is the frosts. I have a friend who lives a bit further inland, & she doesn't get ticks, so ....don't know...sorry

It's actually Wandering Jew, not sure where the name came from, but I suppose political correctness will one day have it changed to Wandering Dew ...that name almost makes it sound "heavenly" which it certainly is not...it is so hard to eradicate even with herbicides. I have a lot of it, & it doesn't bother my dogs, but I would much rather NOT have it.

Pet Urine Odours In Carpets - How To Get Rid Of Them
sheena replied to bernym's topic in General Dog Discussion
When you use the baking soda ( I assume this is the same as carb soda) do you sprinkle it on dry then vacuum it up or make a liquid out of it.??? -
Fish Oil & Glucosamine For Golden

If you are going to go with a food, why don't you consider Black Hawk Holistic...it contains all those things plus more, is a lot cheaper than Eukanuba & is 100% Australian, & on top of that your dog will love it. ;) -
Many years ago we bought two border collie pups from a BYB, from the same litter...she cost $75 & her brother cost $50. Our vet at the time said "Oh what lovely dogs...are you going to breed from them" They both lived for nearly 14 years but were riddled with problems. Apart from that, he was a good vet, who made lots of money out of our two badly bred BY dogs. When you come to think of it, they get most of their business from unhealthy, badly bred animals, so why wouldn't they encourage willy nilly breeding.

It's not being made anymore cause they can't source the active ingredient. I just bought 3 bottles so that will keep me going for a while. Hope it's only temporary, but sounds like it could be the end for Proban It's the only thing I trust to keep the paralysis ticks off.
-
Anybody who depends on Proban should buy up now as it is no longer being produced due to the fact that the active ingredient can no longer be sourced.

I slice my liver very thinly, place it on racks & pop it in a slow oven for a couple of hours...it really stinks the house out, but dogs love it. I have a hydrator, but havn't tried dog treats in it yet, as I would then have to put up with a smelly house for at least 3 days

I find that to treat for something really special, like a fast recall, it helps to have a treat that you can take about 30 seconds to finish delivering it. Something that you can break up into little pieces all the time giving praise & the dog is eagily looking up at you salvinating. It's called "silver service treating" as compared to "fast service" & it really sticks in the dog's mind. It doesn't have to be a big treat, just something that you can break up into tiny pieces. ;)
-
That is just awful. Big hugs to you JulesP & RIP Beautiful Brock

I have three types of treats...home cooked ones for serious agility training, dried treats for sticking in my pocket, so that I always have a reward on hand, & for clicker training which I mainly do inside on the loungeroom carpet, I use the Black Hawk Kibble...they will stand on their heads (almost) to get it & I just reduce the amount that they get in their meal. I do most of the training of my BC pup, three times a day, just using his Black Hawk.

The vets will love you

Clean Run have some good tug toys on their free shipping at the moment. I find ALL of their toys really tough. My 2 BC's play tug with them all the time & they are lasting well. I have just ordered a couple more. I do supervise their tug sessions & don't allow them to just lie there & chew on them. ;)

I'm only going by what this supplier told me....she has 14 kelpies & divides her tablets up (far more economical) & it works for her. I can't for the life of me see why the active ingredient wouldn't be evenly mixed. It's not as if they get a tablet & then mix the stuff in...it would be mixed up in a huge vat then made into tablets IMO
-
Why don't you give him just half a tablet...enough to treat a dog up to 27 kilos then. This is the advice I was given by my supplier who is a kelpie breeder & she divides the tablets up to treat her multiple dogs...no problems...dogs are healty & no fleas. They can be a little tricky to halve, but try scoring the tablet first down the middle.

What are you offering him & what brand of kibble if any are you offering him?? Ask for a sample of Black Hawk & see if he will eat that, I've never met a dog yet that cant be tempted with that. My pup goes bolistic over it, but if I offer him a bit of Pro-Plan, he turns his nose up at it. You can email for a sample of BH at [email protected]

That's interesting, as she has been digging a lot cause of the puppy Did your spots come up very quickly

I bought 500g of the mixed treats & they are just the right size. I think I will order a couple of kilos next time...just have to save up. Both my dogs love them & being dried, they are easy to put in one's pocket without making a mess. I mix them half & half with Black Hawk to make them go further.
-
I would be hungry too if I were on a diet. As someone said...bulk it out with mashed pumpkin or sweet potato. My BC girl is on 1 cup BH at night & for breakfast she gets a lovely raw meaty bone, plus training treats during the day, which sometimes come in the form of BH. She weighs 19 kilos.

Can anybody recommend a free web page design service that is "user friendly" & doesn't drive you crazy with lots of adds & pop ups etc. I would like to put one together for my dogs (just for fun) plus we are going to be distributing Black Hawk dog food & thought it might be handy to have a bit of a web page with links to other sites. It would have to be fairly simple software as I am definately not a tech-head.

I have been bathing her nose in calendula tea & applying the Neocort twice a day & this morning one of the growths has scabbed & is lifting off
-
I just bought 500g of treats from Happy Paws Treats & find them an ideal tiny size & the dogs love them. I still use my home cooked liver, chicken etc, but I find it handy to have something dry which I can stuff my pocket with. http://www.happypawstreats.com.au/home.cfm

I thought the idea of putting up the youtube link, was that it was a video of Shortstep & a bird he had rescued Shortstep certainly didn't give any explaination to the contrary.
