Would love to come watch the Gosnells one if it doesn't clash with anything! More details when you have it, please!

Well there is a retrieving training day this Sunday the 8th in Upper Swan ;) Always makes interesting photography, at least in my view!

I've tried crushed pineapple but I either didn't do it long enough, or it wasn't the right kind. Or it plain just won't work for my poo-obsessed girl!! Every brand I can find, doesn't say "unsweetened". Should it??
-
When's the show, mirawee? I've never been into horses but would like to see what it's all about sometime.
-
Yes that is true, but it doesn't work because I've tried it. I was told it had to be unsweetened pineapple juice, just add a couple of tablespoons to the meal. Everyone i know that has tried it says it works and it certainly worked for one of mine. I've tried looking for unsweetened pineapple pieces in tins at the supermarket and not sure what I am looking for Everything looks to be the sweetened kind! Can anyone offer me a brand please that I can try? Ruby is poo-obsessed, mainly with Millie's (to the point she will follow her around like her bottom is a Mr Whippy dispenser), so I want to feed it to both of them to try and curb the problem.

Gosh I'm so sorry that happened to you! This is just yet another reason why my own dogs suffer. I refuse to do the normal thing and take them for a walk around the neighbourhood anymore. Too many morons with offlead dogs, and unrestrained dogs in cars. It affects my nerves too much and I don't want to ever put them at risk. Instead, I walk them around my parents neighbourhood sometimes, but more regularly they just get an offlead run several times a week down at the training grounds. You reacted like anybody else would have. Hope your nerves have calmed down a bit now, I know how awful it can feel!!

Here we go Just to clarify, is this ground where the other dogs have already retrieved a bird in, or is it ground that already has nice smells opposed to fresh oval grass? Or am I off track completely? I threw a dummy for Ruby out in the bush and she was distracted by the other smells. Not sure how to overcome this properly (hoping a birdy proves enough motivation in the end). -

You've mentioned a few drills now, care to share with other newbies what they are, pretty please? I could always do with drills for very novice dogs! I haven't tried this one with Em yet so will report back when I have worked it out. What other ones RS? I'm not sure :D Think you mentioned LL showed you one recently? -

I'm thankful for videos of trials. I often come out of the ring feeling disappointed, thinking a round was utter crap. I come home, watch the video, and realise only half of it was utter crap Millie wasn't giving her best this weekend, I know using the heat is an excuse but she does work better at night, so watching her weekend of work back it wasn't as bad as I thought. There definitely were some shocking bits, and at the time they blinkered any good bits. I've watched and most of her heelwork was ok, only losing her a couple of times. And her DOR yesterday was super speedy! Today it is, um, well very very broken :p I can't believe how quickly an exercise can come unstuck!!! Back to recall basics and breaking it up again!

Well done TSD, sounds like she's coming along lovely! I envy you and the amount of time you have to train your dogs :p I did some birdy work with Ruby this evening. She's been a bit ho-hum about it previously, doing it cos I've asked but obviously not overly enthused when the retrieving training doesn't involve a thrower and a decent length retrieve, but this time I wanted some enthusiasm for our little backyard work. So I kinda went against "the rules" and rewarded a nice pickup and present of the bird with a throw of her ball. Wow did that perk her up, and all of a sudden I had her dancing around asking me to throw the bird again, NOT the ball!! So I've progressed to throwing the bird across the backyard, and her bringing it back, all without munching it, woohoo! Stopped while she was still wanting more -
I was asked on the weekend what breed Ruby is. When I said "a Labrador", the response was "oh, she just hasn't filled out yet, then?" :p

Sorry to hear about your car being broken into, RV!!! :p I need to be more careful with my car, I very often have dog things and chairs and goodness knows what else just thrown about the seats, would entice thieves in case something of value was found amongst all my junk! And to think I used to once upon a time have a spotless car inside.... not since getting dogs and training becoming my life

I'll be sure to pass this onto amypie. She'd be devo if she didn't find out in time to send her entry in!

I do for wees. Poos I simply cannot make a dog go if they don't need to go :D What do the retrieving people do?

Well done everyone!! Some very nice work today!! My brag isn't in the form of a Q, but Ruby did her OOS stays in Open again today perfectly! Woot woot!! She passed every exercise and scored some lovely points in most exercises, but DOR lost her 4 points because she is still so slow to react to the drop command, and we had another toilet in the ring mishap during heelwork :D so ended up with not enough points to qualify, despite scoring enough in each exercise to pass ;) Who can brag that their dog has toileted in the ring 2 trials in a row? It appears I can!! And before anyone wonders, yes I did toilet her before going in. She did a wee while the dog before her was in, and she had done a poo that morning and is unusual for her to go a 2nd time in the morning. I find it hard to judge whether I keep walking her round and round in the heat, tiring her out in case she does another poo, or keep her cool and rested and "trust" that her poo in the morning is all that she has stocked up I remember walking her round and round at the Obedience Nationals a couple of years ago, being the very last dog in (yet again), to make her go and she refused. All that walking moved it down and she went as soon as we hit the ring :D So for me, I think it just comes down to luck!

OSOSwift, met your friends from Esperance today, lovely people One of them had a great day with 2 passes with her Goldie

While most councils (outside of NSW?) have a 2 dog limit, some allow for permits for extras. But keep in mind that there are some councils that are STRICTLY 2 dogs only - no permit will be issued for more than 2, no exceptions. City of Gosnells in WA is one (unless you reside in the Kennel Zone). Boo to them!

Hope all the Perth doggies are on the mend soon!
