Why Do Dogs Go Crazy After Having A Bath?
RubyStar replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe they're going "ahhh, that feels better!!" My dogs do the same, especially Millie. She tears off in crazy mode so now I wash them both in the bathroom (one at a time) in the enclosed shower, and I dried Millie in there too, then left her in the bathroom with the door closed for another 5 minutes to calm down a bit before I let her into the rest of the house. Seemed to do the trick!! When I used to bath the dogs in the backyard in the clam shell pool, they'd take off and run in the dirt while still wet! Love the shower solution now -
I can't think of a single judge that I've trialled under who doesn't do all 3 positions in each of the 3 paces... there are a few judges who's patterns are bit different looking but still don't drop off any positiions anywhere. I don't know why they do it... maybe I'll understand when I start going to judges training hopefully later this year. So if the heeling pattern is like that in CCD, are they any harder in Novice and Open, etc..? That CCD routine looked more intense than the 2 Open ones I had on the weekend! Are you going to be an obedience judge Seita? That's awesome!

Well done gspx3 and Shimmer!!! And first to get the NRA in Oz, what an honour (meanwhile, still waiting for WA to hold one I guess that's why they say WA stands for Wait Awhile ) Great pictures FHRP, we really need more photos in this thread of the dogs at work! Can I ask what breed that is in the photo right before the LH Weim? -
Well done wuffles and kath!! Do we get to see the video, RV? Edit: how did I miss your post, LuvLottie?!?! Well done to you, too!! Edit2: just watched wuffles and LL's videos, great work girls! What a couple of attentive Aussies in their heelwork LL, that was an awful lot of slow pace and and fast pace and all those turns and positions in those paces for CCD! That's more of an Open round here Well done! Did I hear the judge say right turn and you did a left about turn? Hard to hear but it's what it sounded like

Hope you're feeling better, Rach! Been very quiet in here! I'm one tired girl. Day 1 of Operation "Clean this pig sty up" complete Got the house done today, as well as bathed the dogs, and had a small training session in the backyard, and I've only just sat down to relax. About to fall asleep On tomorrow's agenda is the yard. But with any luck, Dad will be coming over the mow the lawn for me so one less thing to do Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! Can't say I'm enjoying mine as such, but loving having a clean house for a change

I started Ruby on a bird yesterday. Got one out of the freezer (gross ) and when it was partly defrosted (so still a bit firm) I put it into a sock, tied both ends up, and started working on holds with her while sitting in a chair. Went quite well! -
I have to keep quoting Ptolomy because her words are very wise and full of good info! Me too! Definitely! I have had some awesome rounds with Ruby that I walk out with a huge grin on my face, where we messed something up to fail but it was just a truly awesome round. Then we have rounds where we have gotten through but it wasn't with the same pizzazz as she has given me in those failed rounds Example is from this past weekend, Ruby worked her little cotton socks off for me and I was just pleased as punch, even though we got no passes. Millie, it was like pulling teeth in her round. Millie got her first CDX pass, and somehow we also managed to win the class too, but in all honesty, I came away more pleased with Ruby's work than Millie's even though Millie is the one who got the pass :D ;) ;) ;)

Agreed! I have often pulled my kids out a few steps into the heelwork, too. The way I see it, if they are not paying attention and are giving me something that I would definitely not accept in training, why continue and let them think that just because we're in a trial ring they will be allowed to get away with it? I pulled Millie out this past weekend because I knew at the start peg it wasn't going to go well. It was 99% my fault (if not 100%), my routine for getting her into the ring was crap. I rushed it, I shovelled treats into her gob just to get rid of them, and nothing I had trained to get into the ring with focus was used. We took off at the start peg with her attention elsewhere, she missed 2 turns so that was enough for me to say thanks but we're out of here. So we didn't end it on a bad note though, I did the SFE with her because I know that is one of her stronger exercises, then we exited. I made sure I had a better ring entry routine happening for the afternoon trial, and this time we made it through and got a pass.

I entered Ruby before she was ready, just because I was so keen to get out there and trial. That meant I had 6 months + break between CCD and Novice because I wasn't confident she could work offlead (sometimes I still wonder when she likes to greet the judge and stewards!! ) With Millie, I wanted to be confident that she was working to the best of her Novice + ability before entering a CCD trial. Even when people told me she was ready, I still held off a bit more. It paid off because she basically got them in straight passes and all with placings. I'm competitive in the lower levels, but CDX and higher, all I'm after is a pass Actually with Ruby, all I'm after is for her to concentrate during the heelwork and get her SFE, whether that means a pass or not. Anything more is a bonus ;) Basically, I don't care what other people are achieving, I just want to better each of my girls' performances from the last trial we did. You have to go into it with your own goals, Sue&Cindy. If scoring 197+ isn't one of yours, then don't worry about it! ;)

They are certainly "interesting" footwear! I've had socks with toes in it before and they were pretty weird to wear, couldn't imagine shoes having toes!! at the avatar comment. I saw half that movie so know what you mean

I got my brand spankin' new shiny white UDX cones this week so decided to see what the dogs would think of them for the first time tonight. Not knowing the foggiest in how to teach this exercise, I just thought I'd place them down in a smaller square and C/T for any movement towards them. Both dogs thought the exercise was to knock the cones over with their paw and when that didn't work, trying to pick them up in their mouth must be it!! When that didn't pay off, they went back to their latest trick, walking backwards (which I must admit, I still get a kick out of ) After a couple of minutes, Millie caught on that she had to go inside the cones. This is a dog who has only had one or two short sessions on shaping the UD box so certainly doesn't know the box very well. I was surprised she caught onto the cones so quickly. I wasn't very consistent in my criteria Smack the trainer! I was clicking when she sat, then I clicked when she stood, then when she sat again. Now that I know she can sit in them, I will make sure I am stricter on my criteria next time. Here is Millie doing her thing To those UDX pros If I'm doing this completely wrong, please tell me! I had Ruby going into the cones, too, but she still insists that walking backwards is the better trick these days

I think we can safely blame the 80's, not the hat hair It's a great photo! That's one big pig! I'm really sorry I'm not going to make it :D Hope you understand. Call me crazy but I am totally excited about my very first entire weekend at home in I can't remember when so I can do housework!!! Priorities are a well deserved sleep in first and foremost, then I'm getting stuck into the house and yard. Can't wait for it to be done, I might feel like a weight is finally lifted once the hard work is done! :D

I am thinking the exact same thing about all the sports I'm trying with them at the moment One good training session, the next, you wonder why!!

I can only let u know closer to the time , if i steward at the one i cant do the trial the same day coz what do i do with my dog while i steward?? No worries Candice, you already said you can't and that's ok We need to get them organised in advance if possible so there is no rushing around trying to find them later.

If anybody is free on the morning of Monday, the 6th June, we are desperately seeking stewards for the Obedience Challenge! If you can help, please let me know P.S. This is a long weeeknd, not a workday :D P.P.S. No previous stewarding experience necessary!

Endurance Test 2011 Thread

If it's the area I'm thinking, I think I've walked both dogs there once for some fundraiser dog walk. Nice track! But it's all footpath so I don't know where else we'd be riding to get the different surfaces! Hmm hang on, there is Yangebup Lake and Little Rush Lake next to each other, I have no idea! Now I know the area, I should aim at being able to get the dogs around it... not sure the distance of it so I'm guessing I will need to work up to getting them round it a few times Any other Perth people want to meet up to go for a bike ride round there sometime? -
Where do I put my order in?
-
2 dogs here, and want more dogs, lots of dogs, dogs galore But I definitely don't want any other types of pets, or kids (yet)
