Are we talking dogs here? Yes, had 3 dogs when I lived at home But the third is a maltese, not sure she counts as she's not only small but sleeps all the time Training a 3rd however, and it not being an oldie you hardly hear a peep out of, I imagine will be some work

Looks great!! Yep it was great getting help and her giving some tips! She showed me that I am rewarding too high for contacts. It's nice when people take time out to help with stuff they can see you are either having trouble with or are clearly doing wrong -
Gayle, she is stunning!! What a gorgeous girl and good on you for giving her a forever home!! I can't believe she's 5 years old! She looks like a puppy - must be the haircut

I had a great night of agility training last night, love those nights This time though it was Millie who was doing the better work! Millie's weaves are coming along brilliantly and I did a jumping course with her where she was really listening to me and focusing forward on the course which is yuuuuge for Millie, she normally just does one jump then looks at me for the next instruction I also did some full sized see-saw with Millie and she wasn't phased! Sooo excited by this as I don't think I will ever achieve this with Ruby. We started off low with a chair under the other side, getting her to hop on and play the bang game, increased the height again, then just went for it on the full thing. I was giving a steady command as she neared the point it would start to tip and she stopped dead in her tracks, good girl! Just gotta make sure her back end doesn't keep falling off as it comes to the ground, as she'd end up her front feet on it, back feet thrown to the side -
Retrieving & Field Training Talk

Awesome work, TSD!! I went out on Australia Day morning with a training buddy too, must have been the day for it It's been a while since we've trained together and she could see the improvement in Ruby which is great to hear! Then we did a couple of throws with the thrower with Millie and she's coming along nicely, too! She isn't all that steady yet, and she isn't understanding yet to watch, but she is sighting them as they land and goes out with gusto, picks up, and returns with gusto, too I'm working with Millie (associate registered) as well now because I hope to enter her in some RAT's. Such a bummer she isn't eligible for real retrieving trials Wish that rule would change. But in a way it gives me an excuse to be lazy with her retrieving training and not feel guilty when I focus more on Ruby -
3 is a good number! I need the 3rd, now! (then I will want the 4th shortly after ) Great news!! at Barry, though... I don't think any dog deserves to be called that!!

Yes do come down to ACWA on Tuesday, then I can meet Buzz!

Thanks for this! Got it and have replied Thanks! Well my sister went to meet with some whippets today to see if she likes them in person too and she says she thinks they are even cuter in person. She said her hubby was a bit skeptical yesterday at the pictures but after meeting them in person, he's fallen in love So now they are going to seek out some breeders I'm a bit excited, cos I get to help her so it's the next best thing to me seeking out a puppy for me

Thanks PD8888, where arreee yooooouuu? *runs off to PM land*

Thanks! Sister is keen on the whippet, says they sound ideal for her, hubby and their 3 year old. She wants to go and visit some dogs and breeders at shows now with her son My family joke all the time with me (more like trying to stir me up) about getting a dog from a less than reputable place, but it's good to see that when it comes down to business, they have taken note and are asking me for advice and are looking at going through the proper channels So Whippet people (OSOSwift?), can I please ask do the breed have any genetic health problems we should be looking out for them to be tested for? Any other info needed to aid us in finding a reputable breeder? When are you breeding, OSOSwift? Edit: I want to ensure this whole thing is a good experience for her as it's her first purchase of a purebred dog (and from a registered breeder) and I don't want her regretting it
-
Looks like my sister isn't opposed to the idea of a Whippet as one stage they were considering adopting a Greyhound, and remembers Whippets being "little greyhounds" So, can anybody please tell me when we might see some at a show because she'd like to meet some Whippets in the flesh? Ta!
-
I think they'd be suited to my mum too, but dad wants a Lab (just cos he can't have Millie :D)
-
Happy Birthday, OSOSwift!!! My sister asked me last night to help her find a breed of dog cos they would like another dog again and get a puppy at some stage. I thought about it and have come up with a Whippet, the more I read about them the more I think they are perfectly suited to her! And what's more, they even made me a bit interested in them Nah I can't see me ever owning one, but they sound like wonderful little dogs!! So I'm hoping she might be swayed If so, then I would like to help her find a breeder to make sure she gets one from the right place, so if she does then I will come back and ask for some help from you all ;)

My girls title should be in there so it's special to me

First thing I do when I get home tonight is give my dogs a massive hug. I am lost for words about this cyclone coming for FNQ. Absolutely terrifying and all I can think about is if I was in that position and how I could keep my girls safe because it would tear me to pieces if something happened to them

Too much mucking around for my liking! I like doing it prior to upload! Ahh ok, I will get it then! ;) We had our first class for the year last night and I took Millie into class this time. There was soooooooooooo much waiting around that she took to barking at me to tell me to get a move on and do something!!! -

Both of you are having fun. She is running really enthusiastically - very cool. I really appreciate the compliment on the run when there isn't anything complimentary to say about my handling skills :( I am really loving how enthusiastic she is being, but I can't run her too much or the enthusiasm wears off. This was her 2nd run so I was chuffed she was still "up" ;) -

Oops sorry, why did one work but not the other? :D I've never uploaded MTS files directly to youtube, I put them through Windows Movie Maker Live to put titles on them and it uploads to Youtube, so easy. No agility training for Trixie for a few weeks I think, sprained toes I'm itching to get to 12 straight weavers too, dammit! It did work, but I couldn't open them in WMM to chop down the JD one (needed to as the first 30 secs were grass - thanks Rusky :p ) I didn't need to chop the JDO one so uploaded directly to youtube. I think I need to convert the file you gave me so WMM will open it, then I can chop and upload! -
I thought it was meant to come yesterday but didn't get mine - hopefully this week sometime!! Yay for Spartan being fine after his binge

I tried uploading my novice jumping round from the weekend where Ruby got her 2nd Q, but it wouldn't work :D I need to convert it first. That will come later! But I was able to upload the open jumping one, so for the pure entertainment of others, I present to you our first attempt at open jumping so you can all have a giggle :D What I have taken away as a positive on this though is, she is putting effort into it and having a ball! I need to work on weaves as part of a course as she is rarely nailing them first go (and we need to work on speed for weaves, too), and sending her to obstacles for the distance stuff. Main thing though is we had an absolute ball out there, which is what it's all about! -
Woooohooooooooooooo!!!! Awesome!!!!!! :D
-
I wasn't on DOL this arvo cos I had a wonderful class at TAFE ;) so didn't see this til now. Was wondering where you guys were! I tried to train at 8 but had noone to train with and I am no good at making sure I get my turn so it wasn't that enjoyable Millie threw up her roo tail last night! Within minutes of finishing it, and she had eaten is reeeeeeally slooooooowly!! Amy, hope Trixie is ok! I've never heard of a dog spraining their back feet That was a lot of pool fun she had it seems!!

Retrieving Ability Tests For Gundogs
RubyStar replied to twoblackdogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am in Albany for my dad's 50th There is so much dog stuff going on that weekend too... Poo And as for dog shows that weekend, just thought with you being so keen on a dual purpose breed that you'd want to start early on the retrieving learning thing (unless it's more field stuff you wanna do? meh I have no idea ) Who else can I rope into coming with me? -
Retrieving Ability Tests For Gundogs
RubyStar replied to twoblackdogs's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Why do they have to hold obedience trials?? The ACT Gundog Society is conducting our first RATG in April in conjunction with another clubs Obedience trial! Works out well for both clubs involved. The ACTGS does hold an obedience trial later in the year but found running both on the same day too taxing on our club committee. They don't, it's just that RV posted about the retrieving club mentioning it to coincide with an obedience trial and I just couldn't picture it being combined with another club's obedience trial Regardless, I just hope we get them -

Except the Retrieving Club here don't hold Obedience trials But at least there is some movement forward with this over here so I reckon we'll see it being held by someone sooner or later RV, you gonna come to the Easter Weekend Arthur River trials with me? It was a heap of fun last year and learnt lots with stewarding ;) But this time I'd like someone to share a tent with ;)
