  1. Ok thanks! This clears up Ruby's dogwalk mishap for my curious mind for future trials Still a bit over Millie's tragic jumping round being DQ'd I think she might have clocked up more than 3 refusals in that one. Ah cool, thanks! I am loading the video up now to take another look Edit: we are talking about the many refusals on the one tunnel, right? That was two of them. I also saw - Yellow Tunnel out the back (not signalled, not sure if it was or not), The jump out the back, the jump in the middle, then the 2 at the tunnel. I woudn't worry too much though - most dogs do that when they start. all part of the fun!! My boy still does it after 2 years! That was my question, is it refusals all up over an entire course or refusals on one piece of equipment equalling a DQ. I saw 3 refusals myself and 1 penalty (and I too agree that the first tunnel should have been called as a refusal). As for worrying, I'm not She has had hardly any training, this was the first full course she has probably run and considering all that, she did damn well in my eyes and tried her pants off!! I couldn't have asked for anything more! Now, back to training for her :nahnah:
  2. Sorry AD, I sense your sarcasm in that post. While I agree, I have already mentioned that we won't be entering agility. This was a fun teams event we organised entering while she actually was confident on the dog walk - an accident caused this problem. Believe me, she isn't being put over a full sized one and I am working my ass off in training to fix this issue. But if it never gets fixed, I am not overly concerned - we do this just for fun and I will just stick with jumping with her.

  4. Yes, if it's out of order it would be DQ but if the dog starts but doesn't complete the obstacle (in the right order) it would be a fault I think. A dog that hesitates at the tunnel (without touching it or going past) can be classed as a refusal - especially a dog that spins - I've seen that quite a bit. That's it, sorry, I assumed that it was out of order - can't imagine why you would call the dog off an obstacle if it wasn't. If they do attempt it and jump off or are called off then it is a refusal. Because Ruby has dogwalk issues She's a "I think I can, I think I can.... nope, I can't" kinda dog so I didn't want her to get frazzled. It was a fun teams event so I wasn't concerned calling her off. Just means we won't be entering agility for a while until I sort it out, and stick with jumping where she has a hoot

  6. I edited my post above, just in case that makes the answer any different The video can be found on my channel if anyone wants to make their own judgement. Username bingaling81. Again like I said, it really doesn't matter, but I am just curious and trying to find out as a learning experience Edit: here is the video Just curious why she got DQ'd in the end. She go 3 refusals (on 3 different things) and 1 penalty. Actually, thinking about it, unless she got DQ'd cos she failed a second attempt at the last tunnel?
  7. I have a feeling Ptolomy is thinking of someone else's dog who did touch the contact out of sequence. I asked because Ruby touched hers in the correct sequence and I haven't posted that video
  8. Yes that would be correct. If you view Millie's jumping round from the weekend, she hesitated on a tunnel then we got a refusal. Also on a jump. Another Q, do you get DQ'd after you hit a certain number of refusals and/or penalties? I ask this one because Millie did everything and in correct order on her jumping course but got DQ'd. I figured it was cos she got 3 refusals and 1 penalty I swear I will read the rules Might do it on my lunch break
  9. If you are referring to H's dog on the weekend's jumping course, yes that would be a DQ as she took a wrong course (and exited the ring to do it in another ring to boot!) The course I am thinking about is the weekend's agility one with Ruby. She touched the dogwalk, in the correct obstacle sequence, but I called her off it when she hesistated after placing her 2 paws on it. She did it again with the A-Frame, and in the correct order. Not that it matters, I was simply curious
  10. Trialling question If a dog touches a piece of contact equipment, but you call them off it or they jump off at the beginning (so don't really do anything with it besides touch it), is that a DQ or a just a refusal? I should probably go read the rules, slap on wrist for me, but thought this might be a quick question some experienced people could answer for me in a jiffy Thanks!
  11. No problem, my girls sleep in as long as I tell them to It's about the only thing I have managed to successfully train!
  12. I think there are two types of holidays. Those where you want to include your "kids", and those you don't! I love my girls to death and would actually like to go away with them and some of my "doggy friends" as I think it would be a lot of fun, but then I am also dreaming of a holiday where I don't have to worry about them. I want to do what *I* want to do and when I want to do it! I'm a bit selfish like that - which is probably why having skin kids doesn't appeal to me at this point in my life! Edit: my family are going down south for a long weekend in March and I'm opting to stay home because they don't want the dogs included. I would love to take them with me but they dictate I can't (they refused to even look at a dog friendly cottage which there were plenty!) I am a bit broke too so don't want to kennel them, so I'm saving money that way and money on the mini-holiday. Oh well
  13. Hope Sophie will be ok! Bring on tomorrow, could reeeeeeeeaaaally use a sleep in! I wish we had midweek public holidays every week!!
  14. I'd be interested in an advanced rally seminar The first one was a lot of fun! Looking forward to this being a recognised ANKC sport
  15. Wish we had long straights of heelwork like that without a gazillion stops/starts/positions/turns
  16. Lucky for me that has only happened this once, but didn't she look embarrassed? I think we were both thrown ;)
  17. And I've got a few of these on video Not on video (there weren't any then ;) ) but my first BC boy was a forger - and we didn't really know about rear end awareness in those days. His tactic for getting out of the way in a left turn was to do a round-the-back left turn - very slickly - used to make me laugh as I'd wonder whether judges would believe what they were seeing. He was still doing it in UD signal heeling. Kinda like the one displayed here?
  18. I think what some were trying to say was the dog does not always automatically drop as soon as the command is issued, they gravitate towards the handler (and possible reward) a bit more before complying. So by throwing the food, the dog is not expecting it to come from you and should drop quicker. Throwing or placing reward behind the dog should help in getting them to drop faster, as they will still be closer to the reward
  19. Step 1 - dogs compete in their appropriate class Step 2 - all dog winners (over 6 months) compete against each other for Dog CC; same with Bitches - then DCC and BCC compete for BOB Step 3 - winners of each class compete against the oppposite sex winner to get Class of Breed (except in the class where BOB/ruBOB come from) Step 4 - BOB winners compete for BIG Step 5 - Class of Breed winners compete for Class in Group (except in the class where BIG/ruBIG are from) Step 6 - BIG winners compete for BIS Step 7 - Class in Group winners compete for Class in show (except in the class where BIS/ruBIS are from) Clear as mud? Think I need a drink now :p
  20. Woohoo go Strauss!!! I need someone to explain to me (again :p) how this show thing works. At what stage does one go up for something in Group? Poor Cider, hope she's ok?? How'd she do it? ;) I'll be at K9 tonight if it's not raining (too hard) and there are others there also I hope it rains a bit today, we sure need it! Dogs have free run of the back room today along with the backyard in case it rains - spoilt puppies! :D
  21. Remindng me why I don't have a new puppy yet
  22. It's certainly a realistic goal! I didn't start training Ruby until term 2 classes and she entered her first novice jumping trial in December (clear round and first place ) Best of luck! If unco me and a Lab can do it, anyone can :D
  23. And you were still one of the last to leave after the lights went out Last night was awesome, thanks so much Rusky for organising and I really hope we raised a lot of funds! I managed to cram a bit in last night but would have liked to do one more jumping round with Ruby. I did an Open obedience round with both girls, a novice jumping course (with weavers) with Ruby, novice agility with Millie (proud of her! we didn't execute the weaves very well as she was only 1 day into actually weaving all 12 :D but the rest was good!), did the tunnel challenge with Millie, then a novice agility round with bedazzled's Brooklyn - soooo much different to handle than my girls (obviously!) Where I have plenty of time to get a front cross in with my girls, I was too late with him, causing him to knock a bar. He was a lot of fun, hopefully you'll let me run him again bedazzled Well done Candice and Mason on their CCD round, it was lovely to watch!! I didn't get to watch your CCD round mirawee but you said it was good so yay :D :D I did some heelwork with Ruby in a ring by ourselves and she worked beautifully, but couldn't execute the same with a judge. I think we both just can't perform well with a judge, too much pressure and distraction I have a personal challenge I need to overcome, and that is my ring nerves to get the best out of my dogs!! we raised what I thought was a good bit of money which is going to MDBA PACERS. Final not tallied yet but over 3 grand not bad with less than a week to organise. What I loved the most was all the sports getting together..obedience people having a go at tunnels and agility people doing obedience rounds and Rally O. I heard a few people remarking on how well their dogs had gone for them in an untrained area...very exciting :D I think one of the funniest was getting you guys to leave your dogs in stay position during the round to come and pick up a raffle prize RS ;) Thanks WA dog community...you rock Over 3 grand? AWESOME!!!! :D Well done again on such a great event put together in such short notice!
  24. Ruby's first set of full weavers captured on video Sshh... it took us a few goes to get it right The first time she ran straight past them to say hello to the judge, second time she missed one of the weaves. But we got there in the end :D
