I agree 100% I would find it very hard to own a dog that was not dual purpose, it saves a lot of debate. Labs can be dual purpose, but you can always still tell the differences between show and true working dogs.... such a shame, though. I like a Lab that is a mix between the two if that makes any sense

Is this course available to people in WA?
-
Wow I wouldn't have picked that as an ES! I recognise the "freckles" on its back but the face looks different! I think I like the show ones too in that case... but I do find it strange that within many breeds there are such vast differences between working and show bred dogs. They are the same breed, why can't they look the same and perform the same

Go the light yellow Lab I always wanted a whitish yellow Lab, Ruby was too dark for my liking in the beginning, but just love her colour now and quite obviously wouldn't change her for the world! I had wanted a light coloured yellow Lab girl since I was in early high school, and had the name Bella picked out. Fast forward to waiting for my yellow girl to be conceived, my sister announces if she ever has a little girl, she is naming her Isabella. So I wasn't allowed to use Bella for my dog :D Mum suggested Ruby and instantly I knew that was the perfect name! (at that stage I had rarely heard it being used, now every Tom, Dick and Harry has called their dog [or child] Ruby! Not that I have rights to that name, just I thought it was a rare name at the time! :D) Funnily enough, I've had my kids names picked out since in high school, too, but I :D now at the thought of having kids! I still have no idea for a name for my next puppy. I hate not having any that stand out to me!

That is a classic! "Hey Man, this music is reaaally cooool!!" Bop bop bop (I can just see the head bobbing back and forth! :D I cacked myself at this picture, too :D So that is awesome, if I ever get an Aussie to show, I have 2 handlers already lined up But does that mean I have to be the one to teach it to stack? No idea how to do that and what a proper stack should look like

I might stick around on Mondays... who takes the class or sets the course up? Wish I could do Wednesdays myself
-
Awww I so would have loved to be present at that photo shoot!!!! valley... rounding out the set would be nice... but I just love the yellows too much Ruby's breeder only breeds yellows.

Not if I went another Lab... If you went another lab would you go for show of field lines? To be honest, not sure... but regardless, it won't ever enter the show ring, it will be trained for retrieving. Edit: I would probably approach Ruby's breeder for another Lab if I ended up getting another one

Naww but how could you resist one of THESE?? I certainly can't That pup in the middle is scrumdiddlyumptious!!! (photo borrowed from Guide Dogs WA behind the scenes calendar shoot)

ST can have the ES though since I am am group 5 snob Well you didn't seem all that terribly enthused but hey, the puppy is yours to show! :p Wait a sec, I don't even HAVE a puppy nor a puppy coming in the near future But I will keep you and ST in mind when that day finally comes :D

ZOMG have you seen the ad on TV with the Lab puppy in the maze, awww it's so cute, I think it's for Supercoat or something. ETA: Nope! Pedigree: Nawww geez! I am an absolute sucker for a lab pup especially in YELLOW!! Thought about a yellow boy in the past, before getting Millie, maybe that will be on the agenda if I go the lab route for #3
-
Thats ok then ST just didn't want James to feel left out. If you ever want to bring him down just for cuddles thats fine too I second that

I get the ones that when I say I'm off to dog training tonight, they go "Still? How old are they?" Like all they need is like a 4 week crash course in obedience and they'll be little angels forever Besides the fact that pet manners should be reinforced throughout their lives, not just in a 4 week course as a pup, I trial in obedience so train quite often! I get that too from people at work Me: "Got to go, late for dog training" Them: "What? Aren't they trained yet?" Me: "Hmmm doesn't quite work like that " Or we could go for the answer they are wanting to hear "No, they're not trained yet, they're thick as two bricks".

There's this crowd at my local park (not one of those traditional enclosed dog parks) who meet every afternoon in the park with their smaller sized dogs. When Ruby was a puppy, the owners of all these dogs that were playing together showed they were displeased with a boisterous Lab puppy joining in so I never allowed her to again. Fast forward a few years later, I am still attending the same park where I often do some obedience work, and one of their dogs runs up to Ruby while working to initiate some play. Ruby took a few steps in the direction of their dog, I reminded her we were working and she came back, but the owner of the dog never called theirs away while it's frolicking around us trying to play. It finally got the hint on its own and walked away. I just thought how hypocritical, have a go at my dog wanting to play with theirs when they were all playing anyway, but its ok for your dog to hound mine to play when we are working. The others however did recognise we were working and when they walked off, a couple gave some nice comments on my dogs obedience and asked if I could train theirs

I'm always puppy clucky. This time, clucky for another Lab

It was just the do you allow the dog to lag behind and keep moving or do you pause while the dog lays down. Stand next to the dog while in the down position, then take off with the dog. We had a moving down in one of the mock trials we did at the seminar, here you go:
-
Pretty sure Rusky is right, the moving down is downing the dog straight from heeling, so do not sit your dog before you down it. Just like a formal obedience down during the heel pattern
-
Damn, there goes my grand scheme to get you to train Trixie I saw her heeling last night, beautiful

Like I would say no! :p I love trying out new dogs with obedience/agility. It doesn't always work out for me, but it's fun trying, and it makes me appreciate training my own girls Only because I have a better idea of how they function and what they are capable of. I have no idea how I taught them though When I finally get a puppy, I'll be struggling to remember You too could throw a bad dumbell like me if you keep at it! Hmm I might bring Bronson down to K9 on Monday and you can try some obidience with a 9 coming up 10 year old lab if you want. :D Hmm, let me rephrase, I don't mind doing some stuff with dogs who are looking to compete or are competing Otherwise I'd never find time to train my own dogs
-
Well, I'm aborting this evening's walk then!
