  1. Roy and Deb are superstars :D Both standing in the HOT sun, neither with hats on, and not sure I even saw a water bottle! Big thanks to you both for giving up your time and risking sunstroke for us!!
  2. Tiggy what sort of training have you done for distractions - have you tried working on your front lawn, then on your front lawn with teddies and food containers on the ground and then working down the footpath and then at the local oval with nobody around and then another different oval the list goes on. Tiggy, I think the problem for most people today was the heat, there were actually very minimal distractions around. Dogs were laggy cos it was so darn hot! And my question is to those gurus out there, how do you motivate a dog to work in the heat? Or you just plain can't?
  3. :D Are you sure they meant my dog? I wanna know who said that now Millie was so hot the poor sod, I really had to keep the treats flowing to keep her motivation up. Very proud of her SFE, though, I keep asking her when she's going to teach her sister Ruby how to do it :D Due to the heat, there was no way I was going to ask Ruby to do any heelwork, so we just did the Open exercises minus the heelwork. After missing the cue on her first DOR because she got distracted by what could have possibly been remnants of food on the ground, we repeated the exercise and she did a very nice, speedy DOR Saw your dogs in the ring, not sure which dog is which, but the second one you had in the ring worked lovely ;)
  4. No it wasn't a private lesson it was afternoon tea and I couldn't help myself - a beagle was on my wish list before I discovered duck dogs. A Beagle was on my wishlist until I discovered the Aussies... and it's all LP's fault!!! I'd still love a Beagle after the Aussie ETA: By wishlist, I mean going to get list! Definitely getting that Aussie one day, just wish that day was soon and not in a few years
  5. Yes I've seen that before, I stumbled across her blog last year and there was a post about this method. Think I posted somewhere on here about it asking others opinions, too. I think it's interesting, she looks to be a really great trainer, so I don't doubt her method! Though I'm not sure it's for me. Her blog is http://www.fannygott.com and that blog post about this method is http://www.fannygott.com/clicker-training-heeling There is a video somewhere of her training her English Setter puppy to pivot, it is really good!!
  6. Same with Ruby, huski, except the difference between her and Daisy is Daisy likes to scent, Ruby likes to mug people!
  7. That it certainly is MM! In total agreeance with you both! Can't wait til I am a few dogs into it!
  8. I crossed to the dark side once - didn't stay long though It's just not gonna feel right
  9. No, it was just the beagle we wanted to meet. Yes, a DOL meet for sure! You're on But I never thought the day would come that I would compete with a BC
  10. She can be at some things, and I do find she is picking this agility thing up quickly (at least based on my limited experience), but Ptolomy is right and I did know that all along, so we'll be waiting a while! Poo though! It's much more fun than walking circuits of take lead to end, walk back, take next lead to end, walk back
  11. Then I expect to meet this so called evil beagle!!!
  12. She gets to jump 500. And no, will won't be entering one soon, considering the fact that only on Thursday night, doing a 3 jump lead out, she missed went round the second jump I wasn't feeling it that night, so abandoned the agility equipment and practiced some obedience Ness - with agility, I'm just doing it for fun, I'm not taking it seriously like obedience So I won't wait til perfection to enter agility, but will be waiting a bit longer than a couple of months BIG C/T Rubystar - glad to see your brains are ruling You know I wouldn't! I won't even enter Millie into CCD But with any luck, I might be getting some experience (and fun!) handling someone else's dog

  14. Rubystar - go and practice a sit stay will ya! I am on remedial stay training next Monday and i need somebody to practice with Actually thinking of missing my flight home - I love it here Ruby and Scoota have gotta stop sharing sit stay tips. One of them is obviously wrong and passing on incorrect info on what the criteria for a sit stay is! And seeing Scoota has been in the game longer, I'm gonna place money on it's Scoota that told Ruby that dropping in a sit stay is allowed, as long as they don't get up (kidding of course ) When are you "meant" to be coming home??
  15. Congrats on the passes, Amy!!!!!!! Look at all those ribbons, too! I feel ripped off with what you get in obedience as prizes
  16. Addictive isn't it So are you planning on doing anything during the week - cos you know once a week isn't enough The girls last night were trying to talk me into entering a jumping trial with Ruby soon And silly me is thinking about it as the bug has bitten me And no we're soooo not ready
  17. I'm still at work for another hour and need to be there by 6.30 :D Then I have work tomorrow so can't come watch ;)
  18. They were busy taming everyone else. They have everyone else wrapped around their little paws Mum knows better!
  19. I didn't see you run this! You should have told me so I could have watched! Where was I?
  20. So are the majority of interstate nationals visitors also doing the SRAODC trial?
  21. I may not be competing but I hope to meet/see most of you when I come down to steward or just spectate! I've got a busy few weeks coming up too, for a non-competitor!! Good luck for tonight guys!!!
  22. I might go along to that this time. I RSVP'd to one last year and totally forgot about it Cool I am sure it will be fun. I have given up on obedience with Mason, may even stop going to class, he has been so hyper the last week I can hardly even walk him as he is pulling and doing his own thing. Dont know if he is acting out coz I have been working a few hrs each day and he isnt used to being alone so much? Toby went through a phase of that but grew out of it. He is a lab puppy remember Masons Mom, Bronson didn't mature properly until he was about 3 and a half! Since then he still gets excited but can stop and think. Agreed. I have told MM a zillion times about how I used to be in tears quite often with Ruby at class when she was a youngster. She still has a long way to go, but I am pretty darn proud of how far she's come It is soooooooooo rewarding to get through that terror stage and come out with an adult who loves to work! (well, except for Sunday, she didn't want to work then ) I am an adult and I dont want to work lol Me too I don't get paid as often as Ruby does to work. Once a month!! Is that meant to make me want to keep working hard all month long? Nope!! I don't even get much encouragement between rounds!!
