  1. I think it's safe to say that the majority of us did this with our first dog, as how were we to know better? But it has a good side, it showed us the foundations of how to train and showed us what not to do next time!! Some of us were lucky enough to learn from other's experiences some things to avoid, and pick up some good tips for training (although the paddock bashing is still the norm at our obedience, and we've stopped going for a while). I reckon if I had found DOL first then I may have avoided the paddock bashing style training. Since being on here, I have met many great trainers and learnt many good tips But it was a bit too late to utilise them on my brand new Lab puppy 3 years ago as I had already bored her to tears But with all that great advice I have gotten since joining DOL, both my girls are loving their training!
  2. Just reminded me of that pap on crack video in the other thread, it was awesome! Dammit, Nicholson Rd turns into Ranford though doesn't it? So close enough :nahnah: My car drives itself there these days so I don't need to know the street names!
  3. Wow it's beat up on RS day cos she had a comment about councils!! Quite a few of you have had some things to say about councils too, don't forget ;) Ahem... I work for a Council!!!! and yes Swan has a much better reputation than Mundaring (and No I dont work 4 either of them) RS if they really were money hungry they would let us have lots of dogs and have to pay lots of regos And they also take your thousands of dollars to consider a kennel licence... and in an instance, one council took several thousands of dollars from a DOLer for this to have it rejected or told they no longer do it. Disgraceful IMO! Don't forget I'm in City of Gosnells, where its flat out 2 dogs only, no exceptions (unless in kennel zone and we all can't afford to live there), so don't be offended why I'm so bitter about councils! :p
  4. Ahem... I work for a Council!!!! and yes Swan has a much better reputation than Mundaring (and No I dont work 4 either of them) Quite obviously I don't mean the council workers! I mean those setting the "laws". Unless your job is to set these laws.....??
  5. I want to meet his little Gabby who is doing so well in everything at such a young age :nahnah: You can't miss me, I have the 2 ratbag Labradors Nationals are held at the K9 grounds, corner of Warton Rd and Nicholson Rd, Southern River (I hope I have that right!) and that is where training is too tomorrow night, and next Tues night. If you are able to download that info sheet Amy posted a link to, it has all the info you will need I think!
  6. Info book is downloaded, now I see the schedule Lots of good info in there :nahnah:
  7. Sorry, NO training next Wednesday night at K9. The courses will be put up during the afternoon for the Nats. Ah cool, thanks for the correction
  8. What are you on, dialup? :nahnah: Took less than 10 secs to download! What info do you want out of it?
  9. Welcome to Perth :nahnah: Where are you staying? There will probably be some courses set up at the K9 grounds tomorrow night, otherwise next Tuesday and Wednesday at the K9 grounds there is training for those competing in the Nationals. I'm hoping to go down tomorrow night so I might see you there. Would love to meet you and your dogs

  11. Tick and Tick! :nahnah: You said it so very well. I taught Ruby a bunch of things starting with her first day home, but then I went wrong with the paddock bashing and not making it fun for her. I've got this cute video somewhere of the stumpy leg 8 week old chubby puppy shaking paw My next puppy I will start the fun and games of training from the day he/she comes home, now that I have a slightly better idea of how to do things, and it will continue to be one big game as they get older
  12. ps..I think that means cake tonight Hmph!!! I'll have to watch the videos tonight
  13. I was envious of everyone training last night So wish I hadn't taken that break in agility with Ruby now, cos we might be competing at the Nationals had we stuck with it! Oh well, gave me a chance for her to grow up a touch and concentrate on obedience Still bummed though Saw one of your runs when I got there last night Amy, very nice! Eh? Which one, the first two courses were okay then he was a bit over it ;) Don't worry, when Ruby, Millie and Trixie are ready we can travel to a Nationals somewhere :D Okay maybe not Trixie, that will be too long ;) And not Millie, so just Ruby and Kyzer Um it was in the first right near the carpark, with the tunnel wrapped around the aframe.

  15. Councils just plain suck They have no brain. Money hungry B******S!!
  16. I am reasonably sure City of Swan allows 3 dogs on 5+ acres. Mundaring Shire allows 4 on 5+ acres. That is without a permit Then I'm moving to the Mundaring Shire!!! ;) I wish!!
  17. The practicing side of things is where my problem comes in, I do tracking on a saturday, obedience on a sunday and if I wanted we could do agility on a wednesday. Now when would i have the time to practice?? I try do a bit if obedience each weekday, havent done any tracking practice this week as OH is on nightshift and I work in the mornings!! Not enough hours in the day! Welcome to my world, Candice! ;) This is why most nights after work, I don't sit down and eat dinner til well after 9pm because I'm out training I agree, definitely not enough hours in the day! But you know what, if there were more hours, they would just set our working hours up more! Still wouldn't mean more time for personal activities
  18. I guess what it means by totally separate? I train obedience on club training night but not in a class, I find my own spot and do some stuff. Club says I am welcome to get out any equipment I might want. I train agility one night in a class, then another one other night (possibly 2 soon) I train with a small group of others where we do our own thing. We also borrow the club equipment. I don't know if it's luck or not but I've found a great couple of clubs that allow me to do this
  19. I'd assume they'd all be the same though with vaccination requirements Next closest would be Gosnells. P.S. I didn't see the word "next" as in "next closest" in your post before
  20. Who took the photo Tiggy and where did you find it?
  21. We went down - but spoke to a lady there who said we should wait till next term cause Harley will have to miss the first two weeks... so maybe next term :-( Maybe ask if u can enrol and go watch without your dog, work with him at home for the 2 weeks and then start taking him to class??? Dont know if they will allow this but its worth a go. I am trying to think where your next nearest club is, maybe Rubystar will know? That is her closest
  22. Ahh yes, gotcha! If I went back to read the original post I might have picked that up
  23. I'll wait and see what you think of them then. Wouldn't mind having a look when you get them if that's ok? You back from Brissy yet?
