  1. I dont know anything about this. Is that woman in the video you powerlegs? She doesn't introduce herself.

Oh that's so sad. Did Sid see her after she was let go? Sometimes it helps them, but even so, I would still expect him to miss her.

I cant help wondering how your boys (Sid included) are feeling about her passing.

I'm so sorry, I didn't know she wasn't doing well, but one line you wrote really struck a chord with me, and it's exactly how I feel, and I hope you can be at peace with your decision. You said :" I didn't want to wait until every day was a bad day" Yes! Exactly! Thank you for having the strength of character and loving her enough to let her go before she reached that point. RIP sweet, funny Lola. xx
  5. Feather is 14 and I do pander to her now, but I dont think of it as spoiling her, and if it is, then so what. She's never been a enthusiastic eater and often now I'll put her food down and she looks at it as if she just cant face it at that time. I take it away, but if she seems to want it later I will give it to her, I do hand feed her sometimes too. I wouldn't do it with a young healthy dog though. I have a friend who says he wouldn't do what I do for her, but I just think she's not being deliberately difficult, she's old, and sometimes confused, and no doubt sometimes in pain, so I will be as patient as I can with her. I also dont feed commercial dog food to my pack but I sometimes buy her "chunkers" which she seems to enjoy. I've managed to keep her in fairly good condition, I just do what it takes. The others only get fed once a day, but I feed her if she looks like she wants to eat, no matter what time of day.
  6. she sounds like Feather then. she's clever enough to ask for help, except that silly old Feather sometimes forgets that she needed help and ends up doing it herself.
  7. I've got some steps but she will only use them if I help her, which defeats the purpose.
  8. Feather whippet has just had her 14th birthday and is quite frail and wobbly. She sleeps with me and my bed is fairly high, much higher than normal. Sometimes she can jump up and down, and sometimes she isn't up to it. She's clever enough to call for help if she wants to go to bed and just cant face jumping up herself. I never mind her barking for assistance, I'd rather her do that than attempt it and then fall back and hurt herself. Sometimes I'll be in here and I'll hear this plaintive yelpy type of bark and I know she is calling for help. I usually yell out 'I'm coming' and go to help. The silly old girl though, sometimes she's so happy to see me coming to help her up on the bed that it gives her the impetus to actually jump up by herself anyway.
  9. How did you get a little hand in your heading?
  10. I own one of these. Might work? http://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/hardware/ladders/buy_right_steel_step_stool_252_x_390_x_434mm_grey_black_179477/ It might even be too high. Doesn't need much. She's managing to eat off the floor at the moment anyway. Secret's been keeping herself occupied by tearing bits off the veneer on the kitchen bench.
  11. Secret's started doing this cute thing. Last week I shoved her up my jumper for the first time and she loved it. Since then she's been up a couple of other ladies jumpers, she's really getting to first base with girls she doesn't even know but they dont mind, in fact they love it. Anyway, now she's started to wiggle under the whippets coats while they're laying in bed. I see this funny lump and just her bottom sticking out from under their coat.
  12. and can you see she skun her little wrist yesterday. A gentle whippet accidentally bowled her over on the gravel path, she wasn't even going fast but still took some bark off. She was very brave though and didn't do the iggy death scream.
  13. More of a brat fink side to her. Here she is yesterday, to say she's a handful would be accurate in more ways than one. Handful IG by kirislin, on Flickr
  14. You want to make a bet. Just this morning she discovered a tiny piece of veneer is lifting off the end of a kitchen bench. Well since she's discovered it she's been trashing it. I tried to put something against it to stop her, that didn't work so in desperation I have squirted white vinegar over it. That seems to have put her off for the moment but she's already busted a chunk off.
  15. similar to her Mum, but still an individual. Her eyes are darker than Nekos but I was just talking to Marcus about how crazy she is and then remembering that Neko was also pretty crazy at this age. Actually I think Secret is more careful, I can see she thinks before she leaps off things where as Neko used to just launch off things and I'd be terrified she would hurt herself.
  16. I used to have an old cardboard wine box that I'd cut a hole in and used it to raise dear old Pennys dinner bowl a bit higher off the ground for her. Since Penny passed away Feather's been using it for almost 2 years, I certainly got good use from it, and still would have been except for one tiny pesky puppy who'd taken to tearing it apart. I know it's silly but I actually felt a bit sad the other day when I accepted that it had run its race and needed to go. No matter, I had another even sturdier one that I could use for Feather! Well, I did have, until a certain rodent sized canine took to it with her canines. Here she is showing off her kill and her handiwork. I am loathe to buy one of those metal bowl raisers but maybe it's the only option, other than taking to naughty puppy with some teeth pullers, which might be a tempting option. Her ears dont always fly like that, she was being expressive and bouncing up and down, perhaps saying "TAKE MY PHOTO! TAKE MY PHOTO! Little brat! 5F6A7426dpp by kirislin, on Flickr 5F6A7429dpp by kirislin, on Flickr "I did this" she proudly states. 5F6A7431dpp by kirislin, on Flickr
  17. I've just had a big compliment about one of my photos. I'm on a facebook page called Australian Dog Photography. I dont post alot but I put those ones of the puppies on the table together up there and they've made one their title page photo. I'm quite chuffed. :D
  18. I thought it was good. I think he had a wee at the very start on that tussock grass
  19. Mostly my dogs and horse have been healthy but as they get older things start happening, just like us.
