  1. woohoo The British Bulldog I placed Baby Puppy in Show at the NSW Bulldog Champ show back in September 2011 won Best of Breed and Puppy of Breed today. Embolden Hobtop Tribute(AI) and the lovely bitch I placed Best Bitch CC at the same show won Reserve Best Bitch today. Hobtop Peggy Sue(Imp UK) The Reserve Bitch is the mum of the Best of Breed. Well done Narelle.
  2. Thank you all. The place is very quiet without her demanding "I want food" bark.
  3. Goodbye beautiful Morgan You stole our hearts when we first met you when you were 18 months old. You were a wonderful Mum to 8 beautiful babies for us. You loved us with all your heart and we loved and will always love you with our hearts forever. Run free beautiful girl. Our hearts are broken but you are at peace now. Have lots of fun with Alex and your fur babies that crossed to Rainbow Bridge before you. Life will never ever be the same without you. Love Mum and Dad Until we meet again.
  4. Thanks Sway Both these judges have judged extensively down under in previous years(well in NZ anyway) I was planning on entering our Bulldog in my first Brisbane Royal this year(depending on the judge) and we will certainly be planning on being there.
  5. Until you actually know the degree or severity of the screw tail then these treatments are all well in good. Keeping a screw tail dry is not possible if it is a very bad one or even a moderate one as it will always have the enviroment for an infection or bacteria of sorts. You cant leave a wet substance in and think it is going to dry. It wont. And unless you are able to clean it successfully Didles then I suggest an xray to determine what damage it may be causing. Very bad screw tails can in fact penetrate the skin leading to the anal area as the dog grows and then you have serious problems. You also have to be very careful about rubbing the area which will then make it raw and very very sore. And if you use a spray that will sting then be prepared for an extremely distressed dog and one which could certainly turn on an owner because you are causing it pain.
  6. A quick pic taken when we got home. We opted for the large size given the stockyness of Mojo. It may look a little big but it does fit him well.
  7. Hope this works http://www.quantumchill.com.au
  8. The other week we purchased a Quantum Chill Cool Coat for Mr Mojo our British Bulldog. Mojo is a great breather but we decided to get him one so he could wear them at the shows. Last weekend my hubby took Mojo to the shows and he was absolutely great. Lovely and calm and cool. We have just come back from a show today with a temp of 31 degrees. Mr Mojo was totally cool and relaxed while in his soft crate. Never got stressed(he has an awesome temperament anyway). He had it on right up until we were in the ring and hubby then rewet it to put on when he got out. In this kind of heat with no breeze I am totally impressed with how cool he was. The judge even made a comment(must of seen him with his coat on) on how cool he was in the heat. You do have to make sure you follow the instructions with the coat. And the ladies we dealt with in Brisbane were great.
  9. Didles This is a problem with Bulldogs that needs addressing. Have you sort advice from the breeder of your puppy? If so what have they said. It may be that your Bulldog will need an operation to fillet his tail. That is to have the vertabrae of his tail removed but leave an area of skin where his tail was. I would suggest that you contact Karen Hedberg(sorry I am not sure which vet clinic she has) She is a Brachy breed specialist and would be able to advise suitably. Do not go to just any vet. The thing being is that the tail gets so hot and sweaty and yeast infections occur. Malaseb is great to reduce the yeast infection but his tail will need cleaning every day(Malaseb every 5 days and careful it can burn so use it carefully). If his tail smells bad then infection has probably taken over. The main thing you need to establish is whether or not his tail is so bad that he needs surgery or just needs to be cleaned every day or every other day. Usually with a tail not so bad they will grow out of it but it depends on the structure of the screw. If the tail is pressing into his anus then he will have a serious problem. Do not delay with this please. I have a Bulldog with a tight screw tail but his is mananged with Malaseb and also sudocream(available at Woolies) I can clean under his tail very well and as he grows, the tail is getting better but some of them can be very bad. They can even grow into the anus causing major problems. If someone can advise on Karens surgery I would appreciate it.
  10. I also have two pairs of runners that I use for showing. Sfida and Diadora. Both purchased in NZ and brought back to Aus cause they were an awesome price. Very very comfortable shoes. I have tried many shoes over the years and these two, especially the Diadoras are the best.
  11. I wear skirts both just below the knee and just above. When I show the Bullmastiff I dont bend down(I am very tall) but when I show the Bulldog I have to get down on my knees to stack him. Having a bad back most of my life means that it is just a no no to bend down unless you do so properly. I always try to check the top and tail side of things when dressing as nothing could be more embarassing than showing off your puppies or people coping an eye full from behind or in front for that matter. I prefer skirts to pants. I dont always wear a jacket. Having a white Bulldog and a fawn Bullmastiff I wear dark clothing.
  12. Hi Carlo I am in NZ at the moment(but had to get my DOL forum fix) I will Personal message you when I get back on Monday night/Tuesday morning. You have done so well with Pearl. It is the vet that in my opinion has let her down(but I have already said this) You have only gone on the advice that the vet has given you. Hugs to Pearl
  13. I dont know if you will take the issues any further Carlo. It is not for me to say but I am disappointed in the things the vet didnt do. If it was ME I would be contacting the vet again, but bearing in mind they were generous enough to not charge for the consults I dont know what the outcome will be. In saying that there are issues like the discharge and the ear mites which should of been diagnosed properly. In time(and it wont happen over night as we all know) Pearl will be as good as she will ever be, saggy boobies, limp and all. Kelly once again you have to way up the odds of an implant and recovery and quality of life for Pearl. Recovery from this op is going to be slow and steady and not cheap. If her quality of life at the moment is such that with medication, and controlled exercise she will lead a near normal life without the op then I would personally advise not to have the op done just to reduce the limp. I dont mean for you to take this the wrong way and I am not being harsh, but Pearl is not a younger girl that may easily bounce back from this type of op. She looks like she is coping and has obviously coped since she has done the damage. There are some wonderful products out there that will help with joint issues if this can be maintained. And also bearing in mind that this op will be in addition to her spey. Just a few thoughts.
  14. Well said. Thank you Erny I hope and pray that things can get fixed. Kelscats, if you need $ to help with vet fees please call out. I will be honoured to contribute a little. There may be others willing to help. DOL is a mighty and wonderful community! Thanks HonBun, i have an email from my vet that i have just recieved and have posted it below. A donation would be wonderful if you would like to donate please email me for the DCH bank account details on [email protected] Thanks HonBun its muchly appreciated Dear Kelly Re Pearl: Female entire bull dog: Problem list: Chronic unmanaged skin infection: Pyoderma Bilateral untreated aural heamatomas. Chronic ear infection. Right cruciate rupture untreated leading to arthritic changes in the right stifle. Open draining pyometra ( cystic endometritis, or infected uterus) - likely to have been made worse with use of steroid with no antibiotic cover. pendulous vagina due to slack ligaments - likely due to numerous pregnancies. OK just my 5 cents worth here. No forgetting of course that I am not a vet but have seen every problem on the list in peoples dogs in my few years experience :) Chronic unmanaged skin infection. The condition was being managed(did the new vet see the before and after photos???No) Granted it was not managed the way it should of been. Bilateral untreated aural haematomas. Yep we know this. Kelly just my opinion...Do not get them fixed. What is done is done with her ears. They are not bothering her but they will as soon as they are operated on. Just ensure they are kept clean and free from fly strike. If necessary apply sun cream and an insect repelant. Chronic ear infection. Yes this was known although first vet did nothing. Right cruciate rupture. Didnt know about this.Didnt know she had a limp but with her lack of weight I did suggest no exercise. Now it will be NO strenuous exercise at all. Discuss with the vet options and seeing as it has been left this long now decide whether or not it is appropriate to be repaired and what the outcome will possibly be if it is and if it isnt. As she already has arthritic changes maybe appropriate medication to manage this. Open draining pyometra does not have a clear discharge as per what Carlo mentioned. It is tomato soup in colour and if she has just developed it then she has already been in season a short time ago. In short if she had this as such and hasnt been treated then she would be by now pretty close to death as the infection would be huge(even though it is draining) The only course for this is immediate spey. If all her vitals are good and it is thought she could handle surgery then no delay. I have yet to find the probability of it being caused by steroids one I would be going for. Pendulous vagina????? Now not a prolapse??? Would love to see pics. Carlo did you notice anything amiss at all with her in this "girls" department?? I am sure she has had a few bubbas in her time
  15. Kelscats can you post some pics please. Am very interested to see what is going on. I have been going through the photos that Carlo posted and although they arent very clear as far as her rear end goes I was hard pressed to see a proplapsed vagina. No vet should ever of missed a proplapsed vagina. Especially if she had just been in for an exam. Unless of course the prolapse has just happened. An abnormal vulva area may be. What antibiotics will she be on for her skin? What else did he say about her skin? Carlo dont you dare beat yourself up over this one. Pearl is and has been in the best of care since the day you saved her.
  16. For us just over a month. While we moved from NZ to Aus. Our Bullmastiff girls stayed with my parents while we got settled and found a good place to rent. Then we flew them over. They were so happy to see us but were definitely wondering when they could have dinner as they hadnt had any breakfast that day Have also had to kennel three Bullmastiffs for about 10 days. The place we use looks after them so well. And we kennel them when we go back home for a holiday. Now we have the Bulldog it is going to be a bit of a worry. edited cause I had spelling mistakes that were so funny. :D
  17. Just saw that too Frodos Mum Does anyone else have access to your computer or know your password to log on???? All posts changed around the same time I think
  18. R I P Skippy. So tragic Missymoo My heart goes out to you and your family
  19. Depends on how far you want to travel Northland Canine and Bay of ISlands clubs just had a long weekend of shows. Do have a look at the calender to give you an idea. Closest big venue of course for all the major shows is Ardmore just South East of Auckland
  20. I was just going to post that Clyde and then I saw your post. Please please please dont call your baby a Bullmastiff cause he isnt one. I mean, he is lovely but he is a crossbred mastiff type. And you will love him to peices we all know that. He is of fairly good weight and now it comes to light why you got him at 7 weeks old.
  21. You have done a wonderful job. Pearl thanks you from the bottom of her healing heart. Looking forward to updates
  22. More good healing thoughts coming Tess's way. Pyo is a nasty nasty infection. Stabilising is needed. Obviously she is in a very bad way. Hoping the surgery is successful.
  23. Thank you all. We had huge cuddles on the porch a little while ago.
  24. Although Morgan had a great surgery recovery sadly now 7 weeks later the news is not good. Morgan has lymphatic cancer and her lip and mouth also has numerous tumours coming up that is causing her discomfort and some pain. These lumps came up in a few short days. We have made the decision that we are not going to get these removed. I know Morgan wont make it to see her 9th birthday in March but she will stay with us for as long as she is reasonably comfortable. Then we will let her be with her brother Alex. How does one stay strong yet again when the time comes. I am leaving next Thursday for a long weekend back to NZ. I dont want her time to be near while I am gone. Morgan has been our heart Bullmastiff. She rules the household. What she says...goes. Our lives are going to be so empty without her talking to us and not doing as we ask her. Because that is just Morgan. I dont know how we are going to cope. I am a mess already and have been for awhile. Anyways thanks for being there and reading my sad story. Please give your furkids a big hug
  25. Usually Folic Acid is in with a womens multi vitamin supplement which is what we have used for years(not just Folic Acid on its own. Should of made myself clearer in my post. This I would recommend using.
