  1. The dog has had the injury for many weeks. You have also said that he is very very underweight and very inactive. And asking whether or not a vet examination for something else would be in order? Given all the circumstances you have put forward surely a full bloods would be in order. What has the dog been fed at his owners place?
  2. I am aware thanks of prey model raw diet. I asked what foods primarily made up the diet you fed but you never bothered to answer. And part of my post previous was in rely to a post by Espinay2 but the reply got all lumped together. And yes Wolves DO eat vegetable matter, grasses, berries and the like to supplement their diet. They always have done. Didnt you know that? So if you know about a prey model diet then you should know the diet consists of nothing more than meat, bones and organs. What is there to ask? Nope, please support your claims with evidence. Oh for goodness sake. I was asking what particular carcasses you use. Is that SO hard to answer. Obviously. You seriously didnt know that Wolves supplement their diet with vegetable matter. I learnt that many many years ago whilst researching the Canus Lupus. Why dont YOU google to see what YOU can come up with.
  3. This was a link posted on Facebook Hope it comes through WARNING it can be distressing for some to watch. The dog is in the later stages of bloat. It DOES survive. You can watch a video of a dog bloating here: and download a bloat chart to put on your fridge here: http://www.greatdanerescue.com.au/Docs/Bloat%20Chart.pdf -
  4. So sorry to hear of your loss Swayd. We have had two Bulldogs with bloat. One 5 month old puppy who also had torsion. He did not survive. One older dog who would only just bloat(no torsion). We successfully were able to puncture his stomach with a large needle to release the gas. He was rehomed later in his life. He died a year later. I am not sure why. I have just watched a youtube video today of a rescue dog that had bloated.(USA) Once I find it again I will post the link but BE AWARE it is not a nice video to watch. It is very very educational and yes the dog did survive. I am not sure if anyone else has seen it so sorry if you get to do so twice. It highlights the signs to look out for. Be aware that they narrated the video after the dog was taken to the vets. The owners of the dog had no idea the dog was bloating at the time. Will go off to see if I can post the link.
  5. Looking for some suitable accomodation near Erskine Park. Any recommendations please or ones to avoid. Many thanks

  7. Pretty sure there is just one prey model diet. Doesn't matter what breeds they are, all dogs are the same species and have the same alimentary system. Perhaps you can explain why you disagree? Not trying to pick anything, just interested in hearing what people have to say :) Agree with this. Interesting to note that you say dogs are carnivores and as such should be fed meat, yet you also state that your dogs diets do consist of vegetables, eggs, yoghurt etc. If they were carnivores, meat should make up 100% of their diet. But we all know that even in the wild, wolves and undomesticated dogs also eat vegetable matter. But our dogs are not in the wild. While I do not agree with alot of the additives that pet food companies put in the dog food, it is still a million dollar plus a year business and up to each indiviual person what they should feed. Myself, I prefer to add vegetables, fish and yoghurt etc to their dry food diet.
  8. So please explain your prey model diet for your dogs and what breed are they?
  9. Thank you for your reply Bullbreedlover. Can I ask what brand of dry food you would recommend other than Advance & why don't you feed or recommend bones? Her puppy is a Miniature Australian Bulldog - expected weight on maturity 20kgs. A miniture Australian Bulldog.(Australasian Bandog is the name to use. Havent heard of minitures in the breed) Shudder to think how much they are worth. I feed Proplan Large breed puppy for my babies and Adult kibble when they are about 9 months. Although if the weight of this puppy is only going to be around 20 kilos then it is up to your sister to decide whether to swap foods or not. Our Bulldogs are never fed bones nor rawhide as I have heard of too many heart breaks from losing dogs which have choked and died on the fore mentioned items. Even my Bullmastiffs are never fed bones.
  10. If your sister is concerned about the health and growth of her "Bulldog" breed then I certainly would be feeding a dry food kibble for a large breed puppy. And Advance in my opinion is not suitable. You must have a good fat protein balance. And as calcium is included in the food you shouldnt need to supplement with calcium. That doesnt mean to say you have to stick with dry food and nothing else. You can introduce many other foods such as sardines, tuna, chicken, vegetables etc. The dry food available these days is a full supplemented meal. I never feed bones to my dogs and never recommend it. Be very careful feeding any raw mince as there is a huge risk of bacteria in the mince. But that is just my opinion.
  11. Baby Puppies compete in the challenge line up along with all the other class winners. They are not eligible for a CC but they can be awarded Best dog/bitch and Best of breed. The challenge is just written as non applicable. Baby Puppies can actually be awarded Best/ Reserve of Group and or Best and Reserve in show if the judge deems them worthy. Challenges awarded for Best Dog/or bitch after they turn 6 months old. At least one of the 8 must be after the dog turns 1. From memory you must have at least 6 challenges from different judges.Sure someone will correct me if I am wrong on that.
  12. Titled my beautiful boy at the end of last month. 5 days before he turned 1 year old. Such a gorgeous man Ch Llemmegs Mr Mojo Rising(AI)
  13. I havent posted on dol for ages(well just a little while) and have only just seen this thread but it is hilarious. Would love to see a reality TV show made of shows some time. A few unlikes. Ladies with huge unsupported puppies or large(not being mean here) ladies and gentlemen wearing clothing 5 times too small for them (seriously it doesnt turn me on) running around with everything hanging out. No room between gazebos so us poor unfortunate exhibitors (who love a bit of a sleep in at the weekends and dont arrive at the crack of dawn to set up), can get up to the ring for breed judging. Sometimes showing a dog which is NOT being stuffed full of bait can be bad. As secretly I would love to throw bait around or squeak hideous toys while in the BIG lineup.
  14. I have just been given some free samples (tinned food)for the fur kids to try. The dogs love the turkey stew have yet to try them on the chicken and sweet potato and whitefish and sweet potato. I would seriously never contemplate feeding this as a complete diet as these tins retail at our pet store for $3.55 each.

  16. but that would have been an interesting breeding... :p You can actually abort an unwanted litter. Why have dogs like this, undesexed and on heat, running round together. It sounds extremely irresponsible to me, from the dogs' point of view. Why would you be breeding this sort of crossbreed deliberately in the first place? Why is my biggest question, why breed these crossbreeds, why not be more careful and obviously if the parents have attacked another dog(s) this is not an owner that is responsible in any way. That has to be one of the best posts that this thread contains. Personally I would be interested in seeing the pedigree and a photo of the purebred Bullmastiff bitch which is the dam of this pup. And question how the owners of this bitch contributed to her aggressive upbringing. Considering this thread wasn't about whether the breeder should have kept the litter! it is about advice to a person who obtained a pup, and is now getting screwed over by her local council. The OP didn't breed the dog, and many people are still going to the pound/rescue and buying x bred bully types. They too run the risk of the same situation. IMO the Best posts would be those whom have been constructive with advice to a fellow dog owner in a difficult position. Oh we all know that this thread isnt about the breeder, but at the end of the day, it all comes back to the breeder and the things that happen that can come back to bite them and the owners in the arse.

  18. And he has Bullmastiff in him???? Seriously?
  19. If he has to be on this food, is there any reason why you cant blend the dry mix in a food processor and then soak it until it is the consistency to be able to syringe feed him slowly. You dont want him to struggle or gag on it at all. Can you add flaked white fish, sardines, any other type of fish at all? How old is the cavy. Does he have any mouth issues at all which make it hard for him to eat? Just a few suggestions to throw around.
  20. Lameness can creep in due to a few things. Firstly how old is the Frenchie? Secondly, Why are you walking a Frenchie 5 kms a day? They are not a breed built for this amount of walking. While he might be super fit and healthy in your eyes, damage can be done to his ligaments and joints which may become permenent. Not allowing him to jump on and off furniture is only part of the big picture. A French Bulldogs structure is very similar to a Bulldogs where their breed make up means they are not endurance dogs. Sure some dogs can be super fit but no way would I recommend 5kms a day for exercise. He may very well have a neurological problem and you will need to investigate this.Upwards of 8ks for scans, I suggest you approach another vet. It may be that he has serious pinched nerves in his spinal area. Lets hope the damage is repairable. Good luck.
  21. British Bulldog Club of NSW Specialty Show 8th April Best Dog Best in Show Ch Embolden Right Said Fred (Taylor) Sorry, dont have any other results at the moment. Maybe someone else in Bulldogs can add to this.
  22. So very very heartbreaking for you N. Skoota looked to be a lovely boy. RIP Skoota
  23. In 32 years of owning and breeding Bulldogs we have never had to have a palate reduced. Generally if a dog does have an elongated soft palate then this should be evident at a very early age and very noticeable in hot weather or when eating and drinking. It is not an operation to be performed "just in case it may happen as the dog gets older".
