  1. Hi Beth Group 6 judge was Ms J Heard (SA) the Show secretary Mrs K. Humphries Thank you! Just realised to enter BOB points I need numbers so will have to hunt through my bags and find my catalogue now anyway. Was putting off having to find it through grooming bags, food/drinks, toys etc, think I overpack a tad for shows :p What breed? I have the catalogue here
  2. My Sibe is fantastic with her cats, however any small animals and that would include cats who are silly enough to come into her yard are breakfast or dinner depending on the time of day.
  3. Off leash dog - overreaction - yelling - overreaction - smack to the head. Are you for real? I have only got this far but I agree with hotfurball. Are you seriously for real? So I am walking my extremely dog agressive, oversize, very fit Sibe on lead, who incidently was attacked by an off lead terrier as a puppy and you approach me with your elderly Rotti off lead My dog feels threatened and snaps at your dog. Thankfully your dog because of his size only requires 23 stitches, abs and a few drains, thankfully it wasn't a swf. Then you recieve the five hundred buck bill for his treatment, you're the sort of person who doesn't follow rules so god knows you aren't taking ANY responsibility for that bill. You report my dog to the council. What then? Or I am walking my extremely dog agressive, oversize, very fit Sibe on lead, who incidently was attacked by an off lead terrier as a puppy and you approach me with your elderly Rotti off lead :D I start sceaming at you to keep your dog away from mine because I sure as hell never want my dog laying a tooth on yours or any other. You smack me in the head for sceaming at you, my Sibe who is extremely protective of 'her' family lunges at you. I am still recovering from being hit but luckily she isn't human agressive so only glances your arm with her teeth. What then? But of course what actually happens is I cross over to the other side of the road because I will protect my dogs at all costs but ............. why the hell should I have to, I aren't the one breaking the law, you are.
  4. Puppy In Group and In Show was the Samoyed Aldonza My Man The Minder Baby was a Mini Schnauzer Minor was a Bull Mastiff Junior was a Dobe Inter ?? Ausbred ?? Open ??
  5. I really do agree with this. My simple understanding is their really no treatment as such, the thing that kills is not the virus but the associated dehydration, she needs to be on a drip asap. How long have you had Zoey for? My vets opinion is the incubation period is 3-7 days although it seems to differ depending on which vet you talk to but I will believe mine. Fingers crossed you little girl pulls through xoxoxo
  6. I *think* what ETH means is yes the are recongnised with the UKC but not the AKC and they probably won't be recognised here with the ANKC until they are recongnised by the AKC. Confused much I would be very interested in meeting one too ETH Would be interesting to see what their temperaments are really like. I have no issue with where or who a breed is registered or recognised by. Morally for me as long as they are breeding to improve the breed or towards a particular goal rather than for money, all good. Edited to add Oh man.............that's what happens when you write something, go to get a drink, come back and post I will take a look later SS must get back to work although I am believer in linebreeding when done correctly................
  7. I agree with the importance of health testing. I wonder what health issues the breed has though, if any. I doubt there'd be any DNA testing available. Most Whippet breeders don't health test for anything. Completely off topic just thinking aloud, bad I know Alot of people tend to throw around health testing, not you pf just as I said thinking aloud, like it is the be all and end all of dog breeding, when it is just one of many things to consider. Health testing means nothing, to me anyhow, unless that dog is well conformed, sound and has a good temperament to begin with. Edited to add I shouldn't say it means nothing to me because it does, alot, but it is just part of a bigger picture. I just seem to see quite a few breeders producing "unsound" dogs but it is okay because they have been health tested.
  8. I don't have a rare breed, quite the opposite, 35ish entries on the weekend which included three grand champs. I have beaten all three, not often but I have. I have no problem showing against them and have worked my arse off to obtain my dogs titles. I have no issue with rarer breeds obtaining titles with 6 point challenges. The judge has signed a certificate to say they are worthy of the the title. It is not their fault they do not have any competition and very different to dogs travelling to avoid competition. Agree with needing to see more judges non award.
  9. For various reasons I would like to ensure the puppy food I am feeding does not have food coloring. I am currently feed Proplan chicken and rice which has the following ingredients. Chicken, poultry meal (natural source of glucosamine and glutamine), corn gluten meal, wholegrain yellow corn, beef and/or lamb tallow preserved with mixed tocopherols (source of vitamin E), wholegrain wheat, brewers rice, wheat by-products, soybean meal, oats, fish meal and/or fish oil (natural source of DHA), calcium carbonate, salt, dicalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, choline chloride, dried yeast, milk by-products (natural source of colostrum), vitamin A supplement, whole egg, vitamin E supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, zinc sulphate, iron sulphate, antioxidant, niacin, ascorbic acid (source of vitamin C), vitamin D3 supplement, manganous oxide, pantothenic acid, copper sulphate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulphate complex (source of vitamin K activity), potassium iodide, natural flavours, sodium selenite, biotin. Could anyone please tell what the colorings (if any) are in the above food and if it does contain any recommendations for a dry food without any would be great
  10. Canine Museum or Utility Dog Club members comp?? The Utility Dog Club will be taking entries on the day!! So turn up at about 9.30 and they should have someone set up by the entrance to the ring to take your entry
  11. I guess that would explain why I haven't seen it. I know!! I've just entered Abby into the NSW beagle specialties and she's one dog... entered in one class and two properties! Ouch Property classes are usually held after all of normal classes, the challenges and bob/rubob and class run offs at specialities and aren't classed as normal classes (eg the winner of say best head isn't eligible to compete for the challenge)
  12. to DOL and Group 6 in Vic SH I will be at the Canine Museum Show, you are more than welcome to come and hang out with us, but warned that I know nothing about Boxers :D Ashley and Lee are both fantastic Ash is a bit exxy but worth every single cent! If your puppy is three months old there is a Utility Club Members Comp a KCC Park at 10am on Saturday morning, entry I think is $2 on the day. You don't have to worry about the challenge until your puppy is over 6 months old. At the moment you will enter your baby class, if you win that you will run off against the other baby puppy for puppy of breed, if you then win that you will run off against all the other baby puppies for puppy in group.
  13. Both of my sisters and brother suffer from severe asthma; I got lucky I just get severe hayfever instead I think if anyone suggested getting rid of one of the family dogs, cats, horses or other animals when I was younger my mother would have had a fit. Yes dog and other animal hair can exsasperate the condition, so to can dust mites, no chance of returning them to their breeder, exercise, getting a cold or stress. You can't wrap yourself in a bubble. Studies are also showing that exposure to animal allergens in infancy can actually decrease the chance of developing asthma. What would happen to the poor puppy if your sister was to have a 'real' crisis in her life? I think the breeder did the right thing by the puppy.
  14. If you want to send me a message with your email address I can email you a copy edited to remove major attachment FAIL
  15. Oh, I am so sorry Cowanbree I went through the same thing with a ten week old puppy six weeks ago. He came down with kennel cough which quickly developed into pneumonia. He was on a drip for four days and I honestly gave up all hope of him surviving but against all odds he did. I read this thread last week but wasn't able to respond but I was hoping to come back and hear some good news Run free Quest
  16. 17. In Victoria you also have to submit a written contract which is signed by all parties which outlines the condions of co-ownership (or you did 18 months ago of course this could of changed).
  18. I could ask likewise of you. Just because my pets are shown does not make them objects. Mine are not objects either. They are pets that are loved and included in my family - much more than some "only" pet dogs that I know. I take my dogs into the show and trial rings because we enjoy it. They are happy, wagging their tails and the enjoy the interaction and reward they get from me putting the time into training them to a level where they can gain passes at trials and show well enough to gain awards in the ring as well. I find that fact you state the above extremely objectionable and insulting. You got some sound advice and it was not rude. Maybe you did not really want to hear that your knowledge is lacking, but you asked on a public forum and you got answers that I personally agree with. Breed from a non-health tested individual dog that has not been assessed either by breeder or peers as an exceptional specimen and you are dicing with the hearts and happiness of the poor unfortunates that are potentially going to give loving home to YOUR puppies. My first dog was one of those and she took a piece of my heart when she died at 3 and a half. The way you worded you OP does sound like you are going to try and breed your dog. No I am not a show snob or a nut, to bred dogs that are not health tested or peer/breeder reviewed is nuts in my personal opinion. If that offends you I frankly don't care. I agree totally with ososwift. I find the above bolded comment more insulting than any of the good advice you have been given
  19. I agree with talking to your breeder first & foremost Although I have to wonder why a pet is on the main register. How do you know he is fine specimen , is he titled, he well has he done in the ring, in the performance field, how much experience have you had with the breed. As I footnote I would presume it would be safe for a mastiff to sire a litter otherwise their would be no mastiff puppies, however whether it would benefit the breed for your dog to sire a litter is another thing.
  20. Talking purely about my dog who is DA. High prey drive + poor socialisation (basically no human contact until the age of 7 weeks when we picked her up) + poor breeding (from a registered byb). I have no doubt her + swf = dead swf. Hence she has very limited contact with a select few dogs and when we aren't able to supervise her 100% she is either crated at night and when we aren't at home or in a completely enclosed run when we are home but unable to keep an eye on her. 99% of the time she is segragated from the other dogs but she is doted on by her daddy, is well exercised and is happy and healthy but it is hard work. I really don't believe that dogs just randomly attack, I think their owners simply don't see (or don't want to see) the signs. Edited to add my dog has never attacked someone else's dog but I know if I didn't take the precautions I do, she would be more than capable of doing so
  21. I agree with CMKelpie. Poor, poor little baby
  22. If you don't have the February gazette because you have just joined give DogsVic a call, I am sure they would be more than happy to pop a copy in the mail for you edited to add both the schedules for the Greensborough show and the Easter show are in the February gazette.
