  15. I had the misfortune of hearing 2 mins of his radio show this morning... Apparently Samoyeds and Sibes should all be clipped off for summer. And a Sibe is an ideal first dog for a young bloke that works really long hours. But he must get it clipped off in summer. Tool.

  18. Kyliestar, I think I am an elitist. When I look at a well bred animal, particularly one in its natural setting, I am awestruck. Muscles rippling on an animal ready to spring, or magnificent movement from the hindquarters as an animal takes off on a high speed chase .... my dream is to see something like a jaguar in the wild with all of that happening. A well bred, healthy animal with a beautifully toned body can be a stunning sight. Whether it be a horse, a jaguar, a greyhound on the track, or an Australian Terrier trotting springily along with its master with the coat shining and flowing, the head held high on a firm neck, or a spaniel of beautiful proportions with rippling flanks and coat. I was not talking about just seeing a purebred dog on the street, I was talking about seeing two exceptionally well bred animals walking with their owners. I do not know who owned the dogs or if they had a registered pedigree, but what my eyes told me was that these two animals were WELL BRED, and it also told me that they were HEALTHY and FIT. Now another dog of the same breed might have come along and I may not have batted an eye ..... I am so used to seeing, and tired of seeing: overweight dogs, dogs whose skeletons are not of the correct proportions, dogs with bowed legs, dogs with turned out feet, dogs with poor shoulder angulation, dogs whose necks appear to be stiff and not well supported, dogs that are limping, dogs that are practically dragging their hindquarters, dogs that are skipping or hopping instead of gaiting smoothly. Most of the afflictions that I have listed here are common, on both purebred and crossbred dogs. It is a form of cruelty that both breeders and owners are perpetuating and it is very, very sad. We should be breeding better dogs. I was lucky enough to see two dogs that were not afflicted by any of the above ..... and they were a stunning sight. There are many more dogs like this and we often see them at dog shows ..... they are excellent examples of their breed. What I was saying in this thread to anyone who owns a dog like these dogs, PLEASE TAKE IT OUT THERE FOR THE WORLD TO SEE. They are a magnificent sight, every bit as good as that jaguar in the wild probably. Yes, I am an elitist and I make no apology for it. None at all. Well bred dogs that can move beautifully and smoothly should be the ones who get to carry their breed into the future and they should be seen more by the general public. Souff  Thank you, Souff. I too, am an elitist and I make no apology for it.
  19. I love sitting in the gazebo on a sunny 25 degree day having a drink and a laugh with good friends. I love making my dogs look all fancy-schmancy for the day 'cos they are usually such big messy scruffers. I love the buzz at a show at about 7am, when everyone is arriving and setting up. I love watching dogs and handlers that I admire. I love fringies :D
  20. My dogs are all Deerhounds, so it sounds like the colour may be attracting them. Since you pointed this out, I noticed that the Borzoi we walk with in the mornings are completely left alone by the March Flies, but they buggers followed my dogs for several kilometres. They are already struggling a bit in the heat, so I won't be able to but shirts on them (although it is an excellent idea!). They are not biting their ears, but even the noise is enough to send my old girl into a blind panic.
  21. Thank you for the suggestions! The dogs do not seem to be getting bitten by them because of the Rid, but I might try Repel-X instead. It is more just the buzzing around that has driven them mad. I have used surface spray on everything, too. It really upsets me seeing them so upset.
  22. I have recently moved and have never encountered a March Fly problem like the one I am having at the moment. They are driving my dogs mad. One of my dogs will not even leave the kennels during the day for fear of them and has become really jumpy. I am spraying all the dogs lightly with Rid twice a day, and have also put a Mortein Outdoor Automatic spray (sprays every 40 seconds) near the kennels. They obviously hate being sprayed with the Rid, and the Mortein not only has a really offensive odour that catches in the back of your throat, but unless the air is completely still, it just blows away in the breeze. Unfortunately I cannot have the dogs inside with me, as it is not my house (I am staying with a friend while looking for a rental). Any suggestions would be welcomed.
  23. For my coarse-coated dogs, I have recently started using Isle of Dogs and LOVE it! The coats are so clean that they shine, but retain texture even with the conditioner. I am very happy with it.
  24. Group 4 BIG - Gr Ch Pazada Tristar (Saluki) (Yaaaay Blake!) RUBIG - Ch Rosiel Royal Scandal (whippet)
