Fecal sample showed up nothing so I don't think it is coccidia. She has been wormed again this week but was wormed regularly prior to me getting her. Is it possible for some pups in a litter to get parvo and not others?

Has anyone ever experienced a really mild case of parvo? Is it possible? My foster pup is almost 9 weeks old and was vacc'd at 6 weeks. Pup has had soft poos on and off for a week and a half since acquired but otherwise she is happy and active, eating and drinking well except for one night when she was flat. Two other pups from the litter have tested positive to parvo and thankfully are recovering well. Other pups from the litter have had the same symptoms but tested negative. My vet didn't recommend testing my pup because she said it would more than likely come up negative anyway. I am treating it as though it is parvo just in case.

Well you did ask for suggestions. Shade-mesh was suggested as a safer, effective alternative; and the illegality, cruelty and posed danger (to your dogs) of bird netting was highlighted. Snakecatcher, thank you for your info. The poor snakes get a rough deal and its good to know someone is on their side!

Its just so frustrating not knowing. I wish I could get an answer either way. The disinfectant is bloody expensive, even through work. I didn't even think to quarantine her because she came from a reputable source and she is vaccinated. Thank god I hadn't taken her anywhere else.

Victoria can't even manage the LEGAL puppy farms! How often are they inspected?? I personally think its crap and its just a publicity stunt. The funniest quote was one I saw on Fox news - "The price of pet shop puppies may rise slightly with the introduction of these new laws". WTF!!! How can they justify charging even more???

Vet said its not even worth testing because she is fine and her poos are almost normal now. They said she may have had a very mild dose of parvo and is now recovering or she may be coming down with it. So i have to cancel puppy school and obedience and wait and see what happens. In the mean time I will be disinfecting my entire house and yard, just in case.

We are on our way to the vet to test for parvo. She is still fine in herself but two other pups from the litter tested positive on the weekend. The other pups have all had the runs like mine, but they have tested negative. Last thing I bloody needed right now.

I have only had to deal with a few euthanasias at work and I managed to hold it together at the time, then bawled my eyes out afterwards. I tried to support the owners, talking with them, reassuring them, talking to the pet, etc. I also put my arm around one client who I could see really needed it. I think in those situations though, you sometimes can't help being upset, and I don't think pet owners mind at all. It shows that you care about them and their pet.

If her heart is not working properly, then she is probably not getting enough oxygen to her body/brain especially when her heart has to work overtime (eg during exercise, stress, etc).

I won't be giving her anything but chicken until we get this sorted. Its so frustrating. I just hope it is something simple.

I got up every two hours last night with her and by 5am this morning, she was perfect again? Bouncy, playful, happy, gulping down her chicken... I cancelled the vet appointment (it was an emergency appointment) and have rescheduled for Monday. Her poops have been solid but a weird grey colour today.

Melbourne Rally, Dog Lovers For A Safer CommunityKirty replied to sumosmum's topic in General Dog Discussion What a crappy, cold, wet day for a rally!! I think it turned some people away, but us crazy ones still went along. It was a great morning and the speakers were fantastic. Well done to the organisers!

"backyard Breeders" Posing As Purebred BreedersKirty replied to lushos's topic in General Dog Discussion I don't think it is physically possible for a dog to have four litters in 12 months. The vast majority of bitches only come into season once every six months?

How fresh does a stool sample has to be to look for parasites?

Thanks pers. I'm not sure if my usual vet is on duty tomorrow, I hope so.

She had the runs before she came here, but apparently it had only started the day I got her. She only started ABs yesterday for a different problem. And she has only vomitted once (which was tonight) just after I gave her a worm tablet. I am hoping like mad that it is nothing serious - she is such an amazing, special pup.

I just don't understand how she could have got to this age and been fine, if there was a serious digestive problem?
-
Thanks for the suggestions. She is digesting some of the chicken and rice, but some bits of chicken come out whole. She is smallish for her age I think but she was the same size as her siblings. Her coat is good, she has bright eyes, etc. Nothing to suggest she has been poorly prior to this week. Its just so damn frustrating. I feel so sorry for her. She is starting to look skinny.

My new foster pup has been here for almost a week now and I just cannot get her tummy to settle. When I collected her, I was told that she had been fed a rawhide chew earlier in the day and it had caused her to get the runs. I put her on plain cooked chicken for 24hrs and the runs cleared up instantly. So after the 24hrs I mixed a tiny bit of dryfood in with the chicken (the same kibble she had been on before I got her) and within a few hours, she had the squirts again. Like full-on, watery poo every hour or so. I put her straight back onto a bland diet (this time chicken and rice) but it took 48hrs for the runs to stop. I kept her on chicken and rice for 3 days. When she has the runs, she also poops out whole pieces of undigested chicken - surely that's not normal? I have now bought some Eukenuba fish and potato (which is meant to be very gentle on upset tummies) but as soon as I start adding it, her poo goes sloppy again. I have now got her on ABs for a seperate problem which probably isn't helping but I don't know what to do. I wormed her tonight and she promptly vomitted it back up. Up until tonight she has been happy and active but tonight she is flat. We are off to the vet tomorrow morning. I don't even know why I am posting this. I just don't know what else to try and I am hesitant to keep changing kibble because that won't help either.

Skin Problem Diagnosed As Ringworm/ FungalKirty replied to erinonthefarm's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming A black light will only make some types of ringworm glow. It is the most common form so if it does glow, you can be sure it is ringworm. But if it doesn't glow, that doesn't mean it's NOT ringworm. Anyway, I would have thought that if the fungal culture came back positive, there is definitely a fungal component. But it could be that his immune system or skin is compromised by something else, hence the persistent fungal infection.

I rescue, so anything leaving here is desexed. So far the youngest pup I've had to desex was 4 months old. Ideally I think dogs should be allowed mature, however I won't rehome an entire pup. My own dogs are done at about 12mths usually.

On that doco there was a Border Collie that could locate items after being shown a photo of the item! It was amazing!!
