  1. Aww Gayle, he is gorgeous! What a lucky boy he is!! And Dusty seems to have taken a shine to him. I hope he helps heal your heart.
  2. A gorgeous little dog got hit by a car outside my work today. He was in a very bad way but we managed to get him to the emergency centre just up the road. Sadly, we found out that he died not long after - poor baby went into cardiac arrest. Thankfully his owners made it to the clinic in time to say good-bye. He looked like such a gorgeous boy - even lying in the middle of the road, when he couldn't move and wasn't breathing well, he managed to wag his tail when we spoke to him. I feel so devastated for his family. He was with another dog so they must have somehow escaped their yard. RIP gorgeous boy. I wish we could have done more.

  4. You need to fix your poll - the last option is wrong.
  5. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8282146/woman-dies-helping-injured-animals A female motorist who stopped to check on some injured animals on a country Queensland road has died after being struck by a passing car. Police said the 22-year-old woman had pulled over at Winton, in northwest Queensland, to check on the pigs on the road. "They were injured and it appears that's why she stopped and exited the vehicle," a police spokesman told AAP. However, while checking on the pigs' welfare she was struck by a car. Police said the accident occurred between midnight and 1am (AEST) on Saturday and the driver of the other vehicle stopped. So sad.
  6. Glad to hear you found someone to help. Fingers crossed he gets a clean bill of health and starts to remember his manners soon! I like to be able to take things off my dogs too. I have small kids and while I tell them not to go near the dogs when they are eating, I want to know that if they DID touch the dog or it's bone, they wouldn't get bitten. My dogs will all willingly give me their bones and are happy to be handled while eating. In general though, they are allowed to eat in peace. :D
  7. That would be fantastic. Kitten season is nearly here so I will definitely have a use for it! Will save me re-heating all the snugglesafes all the time! Will send you a pm.
  8. Registering with the local council and registering the pups with the CCQ are two totally different things. To register with the council, dogs must be chipped. It is YOUR job to register him with your council. It is the breeders job to register the dog with the CCQ and I dont think dogs need to be chipped for this.
  9. I understand the vet clinic is for the general public - so they can raise more money for the 'shelter'.
  10. There was a tiny chi living at the end of our old street and if it ever got out (which it did frequently), you could NOT walk past the house because it would rush you and try to bite you. It was a nasty little thing and would have gladly bitten someone. Size shouldn't matter - a nasty dog is a nasty dog.
  11. Last week I took in a mother cat and her 4 newborn kittens. Today, I laid the last kitten to rest. The mum cat was very sick with flu and the kittens quickly became sick too. They developed a secondary bacterial infection and I lost them all over the last few days. I am totally devastated. RIP little babies. I thought I could give you a new chance at life, I can't believe this has happened. Thankfully their beautiful mother is still fighting.

    Lol

    Haha I saw that too.
  13. There is a DNA test called the BITSA test which apparently determines the breed of your dog. It is from memory $150 and is a load of crap. It will come back as something like 22% Stafford, 3% Bloodhound, 5% Mexican Hairless, 1% Chihuahua, 1% Newfoundland, 68% undetermined. :D
  14. This was in an ad for Mini Poodles: "We have 3 males left. Currently all pups are black, however mum is a cream colour and the dad is a chocolate brown. So they will most likely change to the colour of mum or dad." Magic, colour changing poodles hey? Pups were DEFINITELY black too. LOL!
  15. I adopted my rescue Greyhound as a pup. Most of my dogs have been foster failures or dogs that just landed on me. I love Great Danes but after losing two at very early ages, I won't own another one. Since adopting Pia, I will always have a Greyhound. She is my heart dog and I just love her to bits. I love working breeds but don't have time for another one now. My next dog will be another sighthound or a poodle.
  16. Thanks everyone. Dxenion, how big is it? Not sure postage to Vic would be feasible. cavNrott, thanks so much for the offer. I would love to take it off your hands! Will pm you.
  17. Ooh that sounds interesting and pretty simple... Thanks!
  18. Thanks for the suggestion, but it needs to be something I can put inside their bed, which is an enclosed box.
  19. I need to buy a heat mat for my foster kittens but am not sure what to get! I already have snugglesafe heat pads which are normally great but because it is so cold, I need something that is consistently warm. I want to leave it running pretty much 24/7 so I need to be sure its safe (which is why I am not keen on something off Ebay from China). I would prefer one that has a thermostat or simple controller (eg low, high) on it. Can anyone recommend a brand and/or somewhere to buy them? ETA: It also needs to be just a mat - not a bed type thing - because I need to be able to disinfect it. Thanks!
  20. Sounds like predatory behaviour to me. I would be VERY careful. Hopefully in a few weeks when the kitten is bigger, he will realise it is a cat and a member of your family, but in the meantime, please be careful and do very very slow introductions. I would not be allowing him to sit there staring at it all the time either.

    Playing Fetch

My dog did her cruciate running in a straight line after a ball. I'm not going to deny my dogs the things they love most because they *might* hurt themselves.
  22. I use plastic bins from Bunnings - the ones with the clip-on lids are best. Otherwise most stock feed/produce stores sell feed bins.
  23. I am currently fostering this little cutie, called Charlie. Poor Charlie has really copped it from Ginger, who instantly recognised the dog's unease around cats and took full advantage of it. For the first few days, every time Charlie came inside, Ginger would chase him around the house! LOL! They are good friends now, but Ginger likes to remind him who is boss now and then... In the photo below, you can clearly see Ginger nomming on Charlie's head! LOL!
