We are a long way off getting another dog (if we ever get another) but my husband and I were chatting tonight and we cannot come even close to agreeing on a breed! I love sighthounds, working breeds and Poodles. He likes Dobes, Aussie Shepherds and Rotties. All of our dogs have been obtained by me (except Champa - he was brought home by Glen, which really should veto any right to him ever choosing another dog LOL) and he tolerates them, but he is not really close to our dogs at all. If the time comes, I will probably choose again because I'm the one who does everything with the dogs. But part of me wonders if he chose the dog, whether he would have a closer bond with it? Do you and your partner have similar taste in dogs? If not, how did you decide?

I'm so excited! I haven't been to Kepala for ages! I apologise in advance for Pia being a knob! LOL! She gets just a wee bit excited when she is allowed offlead! LOL!

I'm so excited to meet Leo! A standard is on my wish list and I think Pia would love to play with a goofy poodle. :D
-
Ooh I like his new hairdo! Very cute! LOL! I'm really glad it all went well for him. We do surgery on oldies all the time at my work and 99.9% of the time, they come through with no issues at all.

The only concern I'd have with fostering is what if he starts to eat, then the foster goes, and he gets depressed all over again?
-
Shame you aren't closer or I'd lend you Champa. He taught my Pia to eat her dinner quicksmart! LOL!
-
As far as I know, the scrapings are now clear so he is 'cured' but it is a problem that concerns me.

If you can get some A/D into him, that should give him some energy and hopefully encourage him to eat more. Once he is tempted, you can mix the A/D with some mince, etc. Keeping everything crossed for you!
-
Haha - it was great! LOL! Sorry, I am being non-specific in my questions too because I am being sneaky! LOL! ;)

A/D is a vet-only wet food. Your local vet should have it in stock. I use it on really weak kittens and it is honestly a life saver. You can't really use it long term because its very rich, but its great for getting them over the hump. If he is not drinking well, you can also mix in a bit of warm water and syringe it in.
-
Please try and get some A/D. It is highly palatable and has lots of calories so it will keep him going for a while. Its very sloppy so you can syringe it in. Let me know if you want me to post you some with some nutrigel.

The dog is a rescue and has had mange since a young pup. The carer is a vet so I think its safe to assume they followed correct protocol. I was just wondering if the fact that it has taken so long to clear up (approx 10 months) means there is some systemic weakness with the dog that might mean the mange will come back?

Sending you hugs and thinking of you today cas xxx

Well I think you can count me in then. I'll bring Pia.

Just curious - has anyone had a dog with mange (demodex)? What was the long term prognosis? If a dog has mange as a pup and it takes 10 months to get rid of it, is it likely to be an ongoing issue? Any advice much appreciated. Oh and this is not one of my dogs.

I would love to come this week! I couldn't get there until about 12:30 though. Would it be worth it coming this late? How long do people usually stay?

Thinking of you and Indie xx

When our old Burmese was PTS a few years ago, they had terrible trouble finding a vein because he was so ill. It was distressing for us but thankfully Oscar was his usual calm self and didn't stress. Once they finally got it, he passed quickly and peacefully.

How Do 2 Golden Retrievers Get Along With Each Other?
Kirty replied to goldee's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have ALWAYS had multiple female dogs and never had an issues - until just recently. I've always known there is a greater risk between females but I guess because I had been so lucky in the past I became a bit complacent. My 18mo old Great Dane decided that she was going to kill my 15mo Greyhound. The first attack was the most serious, but she managed to get her another two times (we kept them seperated after the first fight, but there was the odd occasion that they were together). After the third attack, we had the Dane PTS (she had some serious health issues as well unfortunately). In the future, if I had just two dogs I would ALWAYS opt for one of each sex. -
I'm sorry to hear he is not eating. He really needs some nutrition to just keep him alive. Is he drinking? If I were you, I would get some Nutrigel and some Hills A/D wet food. A/D is a nutrient rich food that is great for sick/weak animals. Get some 10ml (or even 20ml) syringes from your local vet. If he is drinking OK, I'd be giving him a few ml of Nutrigel via a syringe every few hours and giving him as much A/D as you can (up to 2 cans a day short term The A/D is very sloppy so its easy to syringe into their mouth. If he isn't drinking well, you can mix some warm water with the Nutrigel and/or A/D. ETA: I have some cans of A/D and a tube of Nutrigel here that you can have if you pm me your address.

A standard spey can cost over $300 so I don't think its too bad really, considering it is a life-saving procedure. How much fluid is needed depends on how long the dog was in hospital, the size of the dog, its hydration levels, etc. If she was quite sick, she may well have needed more than one bag. Meds ARE expensive - she would have had some form of injectable pain relief and AB's at the time but she would also be taking home some ABs and anti-inflams/pain relief. The only thing that I think is excessive is the ear cleaning charge.

Bugger I was going to try feeding pineapple to stop Champa eating poop.
-
Haha they are so cute!! :D One of mine also feels the cold and sometimes wears two warm coats! LOL!
-
No advice sorry but just want to send you hugs and wish Arnie all the best.

Pia LOVES getting her coat(s) on at night. I got them from a lovely lady on Ebay and they even have her name on them.
