  1. What breed of dogs? Some tests are not available for some breeds. If you can't find anything by Wed, I'll have a look at work and see what GT offer for your breed.
  2. No Greyhounds? LOL! My BC x is the smartest dog I've known, but my Lab x is a cunning bastard. My Pia has the dumb...
  3. He hasn't been desexed yet, but will be in the coming weeks. I'd consider a vasectomy to the right home. He is honestly the most gorgeous dog, so full of potential. If I had more time, less dogs, a farm, etc I'd keep him! LOL!
  4. Oh two of my favourite breeds of dogs!! Fantastic photos as usual Kirislin. Do you know the names of the Deeries?
  5. I have the most gorgeous foster pup here who is looking for a very special home. Chip (formerly Carlos) is a 5-6mth old working lines BC. He has a short-medium coat and gorgeous patchy markings. But his cute looks are just the beginning! Chip is a serious working dog. He has attended one herding clinic where he impressed the instructors with his boldness and natural ability. He also has the athleticism and drive to be a fantastic agility dog. He will not cope in a regular pet home. Chip will go to his new home desexed, chipped and vacc'd. If you or someone you know is looking for a new herding or agility dog, please consider Chip. He is good with kids, good with other dogs and learning very quickly about cats... Oh and I forgot to say he is also a total honey and loves cuddles!
  6. Maisie is going in to have a TPLO on Tuesday, thanks to the generosity of my boss and the surgeon. I am thrilled that I can now get her the surgery she needs but I'm also very very nervous about it. I'll let you all know how she goes. Please keep her in your thoughts!
  7. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8235212 Lost or abandoned cats and dogs in Victoria have won a reprieve with the state government set to abolish the limit on the number of days they can be held at shelters before being removed or euthanased. Under the current code of practice, the maximum time any animal for sale can be held at a shelter or pound is 28 days. The Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, Peter Walsh, said that despite a shift in community expectations, the code had not been revised since it was introduced 14 years ago. Mr Walsh said the changes were being made in consultation with key groups including the Lost Dogs Home, the RSPCA, Animal Aid, the Cat Protection Society and the Animal Welfare Science Centre. The revisions also proposed to clarify requirements that any animal leaving a shelter must be micro-chipped, wormed, desexed and vaccinated, he said. Other proposed changes to the code include staff numbers at shelters and pounds to increase from one for every 50 animals to one for every 40, a new section specifically relating to fostering of animals and a requirement for puppies and kittens to be inspected more often.
  8. Haha he is so cute. My two had a blast as well - Tyke is fast asleep but Chip/Carlos is still looking for things to do!!
  9. Thanks for your thoughts everyone. She has certainly left a big hole in our hearts.
  10. My gorgeous big girl is gone. Her hips just couldn't go on and her issues became too much for her. I know in my heart that it was the right thing to do and that now was the right time, but my heart is broken. I'll never own another Dane again - I just can't take the heartache. RIP my gorgeous girl. You'll never feel any pain or fear again. Run free at the bridge with perfect hips. Look our for Kika and Rex. I'll love you forever Phoebe-Lou. xxx
  11. Hi all! The eye specialists at our clinic have started sending out monthly newsletters to registered breeders. The newsletters contain information about eye issues in dogs and how they may affect your breeding program. Past topics include PRA, retinal dysplasia and extra eyelashes. If you are interested in receiving a monthly emailed newsletter regarding eye issues in dogs, please email Bron from Animal Eye Care: [email protected] Once you have signed up, you can organise to be sent back issues. Please feel free to also suggest topics that affect your breed. Thanks!
  12. Great smoothiegirl! I will probably be bringing my other foster pup too now. He is a 5mth old Samoyed x Border Collie.
  13. This is Carlos, the pup that I'm taking.
  14. Sounds like he is itchy. If his flea treatment is up to date (and working) then I would be looking at grasses and plants, his diet, etc.
  15. Just bumping this back up! I'm going to the herding clinic in Nyora on the 10th of April with my foster pup (maybe two foster pups). Anyone else going?
  16. Surely transport companies have an obligation to disinfect their trailers, cages, etc too though?
  17. Tonight I had my foster boy Rex PTS. He was pulled from the pound a few months ago in very poor condition and it quickly became apparent that his issues would take more than good food to fix. He was skinny, greasy, had cloudy eyes, callouses on every joint, a wobbly gait, smashed and missing teeth, and bald patches. He had really nasty kennel cough that would see him turn blue as he tried to catch his breath. He was diagnosed with dry eye and allergies, but of most concern were his legs and spine. His back legs were unreliable and stiff. We hoped it was just arthritis, but no amount on pain relief or supplement would see them improve. I watched him gain weight, saw his coat become shiny again and the spark return to his eyes. But his legs continued to give him grief. He often fell and had trouble getting up. The stairs were a real challenge. The vet suspected wobblers. As much as his mind wanted to go on, his body was letting him down. Rex loved his time here and it gives me comfort to know that he was happy and loved in his final months. He was the most loving, gorgeous, goofy boy and I wish things could have been different. I sprung him from the pound with the intention of giving him to my grandparents, but sadly it was not to be. Rex enjoyed a fresh bone today and had raw lamb roast for dinner. I fed him tonnes of treats and he was in my arms when he got his wings. RIP Rexy boy. I'm so sorry I couldn't do more for you. I love you heaps, please wait for me. xxx

    Zara

I'm so sorry for your loss RL. She was a gorgeous girl. RIP Zara.
  19. If you vaccinate a dog for parvo, who has already been exposed, can they still get it? I would have thought that vaccinating a dog with parvo would not prevent it at all. And vaccination does not remove the need for quarantine!!
  20. Did they do a fine needle aspirate on the lump? Did they do xrays or ultrasound on the mass?
  21. They just look like Huskies?
  22. How ironic that its so important to stop dogs being killed in the pound, but its OK if the general public's dogs die of parvo contracted from pound dogs? Even vaccinated dogs can get parvo.
  23. Exactly cosmolo. How dare a rescue group try and blame others for their pup contracting parvo, then expose dozens of other innocent dogs and pups to it without a second thought.
  24. Thanks pf. I am dreading tomorrow. Rex is the most beautiful dog but he is really starting to struggle. Its not fair.
  25. Yep. I'm not having much luck with dogs right now. My foster Dobe Rex is being PTS tomorrow because of his spine/legs, Phoebe is getting steadily worse with her legs and Champa is mysteriously losing weight. And now this. Remind me why I have pets? ;)
