  1. Yes, bunnies are safe in a hutch in my son's room. The male BC was definitely showing herding type behaviour (crouching, staring, etc). They can only access the rabbits when we are home because they are inside. I'll just try to keep the pups out of Harry's room I think. I'll get some pics later. They are both non-pedigree BCs, one has traditional markings and short-med coat (she is from a BYB), the boy is black and white but has less than traditional markings and a short coat (he's from PP).
  2. I am currently fostering two gorgeous little BC pups. There is a 5mo male and a 3mo female. They are both very keen on herding the bunnies. My bunnies however are not so keen! I want to discourage them from hastling the rabbits but I don't want to scold them in case they end up going to working/sport homes. Would I be best to just call them away and offer them a toy when they start fixating on the rabbits?
  3. I love the working line Labs. I love the sleek, athletic look. With regard to these pups, I'm going to agree with a PP and suggest that the website they are listed on has a list of breeds that you have to choose from when listing dogs. They are clearly not labs and even a moron could see that.
  4. I want to get a Pegasus tattoo in memory of my gorgeous horse, but I haven't found the right image yet.
  5. I know you said you love BCs but the Aussies are quite similar and such lovely dogs. And the black tri Aussies are just stunning...
  6. My grandparents pedigree Dobe lived until 14 and I believe his parents lived to a fairly old age as well. Our family dog (Kelpie x Corgi) lived to be 17. Dobe was fed chicken and rice his entire life due to allergies, Kelpie x lived on Pal. I read somewhere once that the reason extreme breeds (extra large or just odd shapes, etc) don't live as long is because they are so far derived from the original dog (wolf). The original dog evolved to be a certain shape, size, etc so when we modify it so dramatically, the dogs phyiscal integrity and lifespan is affected.
  7. Sounds normal to me, but I have four naughty dogs. I wouldn't trust any of mine indoors home alone!
  8. I've never heard of kennel cough lasting for 4 months? I'd be concerned it was something else.
  9. Oh how frustrating! We used to live next to people like that and I would sometimes end up in tears at 5am because I was so tired but couldn't get to sleep because of the dog barking. I even resorted to hosing the dog at one point (which I don't condone, but hey it worked). I felt sorry for the dog (same as your neighbour's dog - not walked, not allowed inside, etc) but I was so angry at the owners. I had a newborn baby at the time as well and I was at my wits end. Miraculously they started to keep the dog inside and that was the end of the issue. I'm not sure if someone else complained or what happened, but you have my full sympathy.
  10. Was it one of these? http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgurl=htt...x=67&ty=110 ETA: The juveniles usually have a dark beak and legs. They are called Pukekos or Swamp Hens. http://www.google.com.au/images?um=1&h...mp;aql=&oq=
  11. A few points to remember... The RSPCA do not make the laws The RSPCA do not approve puppy farms The RSPCA do not support puppy farms The RSPCA support purchasing from reputable breeders How is the longhair gene an 'extreme' feature? Sorry, but a dog with long hair who can still do what it was bred to do is a totally different thing to a dog who cannot walk properly because of its 'desired' munted legs, or cannot breath properly because of its 'desired' flat face, or cannot breed properly because of its 'desired' small size. I am all for registered breeders, but I've seen enough pedigree dogs to know that there ARE breeders who are NOT breeding for the betterment of the DOG.
  12. Cat-world is much more regulated and therefor 'nicer' but I left because it was just far too controlled. There is now a new rescue forum on C-W and it is more rescue friendly, however there is no advertising of rescues as such. It is still a very useful, very informative site though and has great articles about enclosures, cat health, etc.
  13. I imagine AWL would have to operate within the laws of the city/state with regard to pitbulls. The AWL and the RSPCA are two very seperate, very different organisations.
  14. Smells like off fish combined with rotten garbage that has been fermenting for a few months... Seriously disgusting! I had a huge dog empty his glands on me today! Ahh the joys of nursing! LOL!
  15. The RSPCA also recommend that people find a reputable breeder if they want a dog so whats the problem?
  16. Vet visit. They will hopefully be able to do a biopsy or even just a fine needle aspirate and get an idea of what it is. Probably just a fat lump, but not worth the risk to leave it unchecked.
  17. I think its a really cute ad. There are lots of gorgeous dogs at shelters - purebred and crossbred. I rescued a pedigree Afghan years ago, so they do come up in rescue. If it gets people thinking and talking about rescue, who cares what kind of dog is in the ad?
  18. *bump* Upcoming topics include cherry eye and pigmentary keratitis. Back issues are available on request. Is there an eye related topic that interests you? Feel free to make requests for upcoming newsletters!
  19. Rebanne, no new foster cats do not free range. All cats and kittens are quarantined for 2-3 weeks, adult cats then go into cat runs, kittens are brought into the house for socialising. Update: I ended up buying Pia some toys, ranging fromm squeaky rubber balls to a woolly sheep. She LOVES all of her toys - she loves to squeak them and throw them around. However, she has also been hassling the cats more. Not hurting them, but she will happily transfer her game with the toy into chasing the cats. So games are now limited to when I am actively playing with her and have control of the game.
  20. I like having her indoors, just wish she wouldnt toilet inside! I will try some of the ideas put forward here and look into a crate.
  21. Some people have missed my posts where i said that pia does not go out the back. Phoebe is in the backyard, Pia goes in the front yard. The dogs are at the stage where they can be together in the yard when i am there, but i wont risk it when im not there. Pia is not scared of Phoebe anymore and tries to initiate play when they are together. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.
