  1. Pretty sure that every council in Vic has a 2 dog limit, without a permit.
  2. Greyhound!! My girl doesn't shed anywear near as much as my other dogs, I don't even notice it. She is very people focused but she also loves to play with other dogs. She will sleep all day if you let her, but take her out and she loves to hoon around with the others. They are very gentle dog and mine loves kids.
  3. I have somehow always ended up with black dogs! LOL! My childhood dog was a black Kelpie x. My first dog of my own was a black (with bits of grey) Kelpie/BC/Heeler mix rescue, then we got Billi a black and tan Kelpie x (RIP), Champa a black Lab x GSP and my first Dane Kika was also black (RIP). Phoebe was my first non-black dog, closely followed by Pia. I have a soft spot for black dogs, but I do think solid black and solid brindle dogs are the hardest to rehome.
  4. Wow that is so amazing! Actually we were at Lillydale Lake today and they were strands of web flying through the air everywhere. It was really bizarre. Must be a similar sort of thing. New spideys setting off to make new homes.
  5. With regard to signs, I've always been told that you should have a neutral dog sign such as 'Warning: dog on property' because it just alerts people that there is a dog around. But you should avoid signs such as 'Guard dog on duty' because they imply that you know the dog is dangerous. I have had a few of the signs mentioned, but the sign on my front door says 'That's MS Crazy Cat Lady to you!'
  6. Thanks RuralPug! I did try to pm her but her inbox is full. And I think its too late to call.
  7. I'm not sure if foster carers have been arranged yet, but we could have one or two bitches here if you need. We have 6ft+ fencing. Otherwise the young pups would be OK too. I can't have a male because my boy isn't great with other males. I can be reached on 0438 359 724 if you need Steve. I could also offer a bed if things get really desperate for Vicsta. Unfortunately I can't donate money but please let me know if I can help in any other way.
  8. Our dogs killed our rabbits last year when they somehow escaped their hutch. I was DEVASTATED and I did yell at the dogs and leave them outside that night. I know its not rational, but I couldn't help it. Once I was over the initial shock and sadness, I didn't blame the dogs though. Dogs are predators, rabbits and guinea pigs are play. 'Playing' with a small fluffy animal is predatory behaviour.
  9. My dogs have nice beds for indoors (when they are supervised!) and outside I just put down an old rug and some op shop blankets. My dogs are terrible bed wreckers so I get 2-3 blankets from the op shop for $5 each and that will usually do them for a few months at least. They tend to drag the blankets around but they don't rip them to shreds like they do with cushion-type beds.
  10. Oh no, I am so sorry to read this. After everything you went through when they were sick, this just isn't fair. My thoughts are with you. RIP gorgeous Bonnie. Watch over those kids from the bridge.
  11. Yes I used Ace. I gave her half a tablet and she was completely out of it. Poor girl. Once her stitches are out, we'll try and get her swimming.
  12. She was sedated for the first day, but even the lowest dose completely knocked her out. She lost control of her bladder, couldn't stand, etc. I am lucky that I can take her to work with me so she at least gets some attention and complany, but she is such a physically active dog that she has all this pent up energy bubbling out! Thanks for the ideas guys, will give them a go.
  13. RIP sweet Billy. What a lucky boy he was to find his guardian angel. Big hugs to you.
  14. Do you think its OK to have different rules for different dogs in your house? I have never been a fan of having dogs on beds or furniture, but since getting Pia (Greyhound) I have relaxed my stance. :D She loves the creature comforts, plus she doesn't shed anywhere near as much as the others. Pia is also a much softer dog than the other two - she doesn't push the boundaries or test me. So Pia is allowed to sleep on the couches and on my bed. Maisie and Champa have comfy beds on the floor. Someone today told me I am mean for having seperate rules for each dog. I feel as long as I am consistent in the rules for each dog, that its OK. What do you think?
  15. I have a feeling there was a thread on this recently but I can't find it. Maisie has just had a TPLO and is on crate rest. She is an EXTREMELY active 10yo and she is going mental being caged. I had to sedate her the first day after surgery because she was so wound up (she was rested for 2 weeks prior to surgery as well). Maisie is the type of dog who will play all day. If nobody is playing with her, she will make up games and just make herself busy all day. Does anyone have any ideas on things I can do to keep her mind happy? She has a few more weeks of rest ahead of her and she is going mental. :D
  16. So having it processed commercially is OK though? Having animals rounded up, crammed into over-crowded trucks, driven for 100's of kms in any weather (including 40 degree + days) and then slaughtered, sometimes on the first go, is OK? Get real. Bulk meat production is no more humane than hunting, its just that we don't have to see it.
  17. Pia goes to bed whenever she feels like it. Generally I think she starts to get cold, so she takes herself off to our bed or one of the kids beds and gets under the covers. The other dogs go when we go. I always take them out to the toilet just before I go to bed and then again first thing in the morning.
  18. Maisie had her surgery on Tuesday. The specialist was very happy with how it went and Maisie was thrilled to come home the next day. She got so worked up that I had to give her half an ace tablet. Unfortunately that knocked her around too much so she is on crate rest for now. Her poor leg is very swollen and bruised but she has started to put it down a bit thankfully. Its going to be a long road.
  19. So sorry to hear of your loss BB and BBJ. :D RIP Wilhelmina.
  20. Thanks guys. He is an awesome dog and I'd love to see him in a working home.

    Folly

I'm so sorry to hear this. RIP Folly.
  22. dasha, he is a rescue dog so his lines are unknown. And being an ethical rescuer, everything that leaves her is sterile.

    Kelly-dog

Oh no, I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Kelly.
  24. Because some agility people won't desex until 12-18mths when the dog is full grown to try and prevent bone/joint problems in the future.
