If anyone would like to adopt Champa and use only rewards, be my guest. Oh, and I don't accept returns...

Someone was even crossing Rottweilers with Schnauzers and Airedales! Madness I tell you! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Russian_Terrier

What about the people who bred Bassets with Spaniels?? Insane right?? Oh no wait, thats a recognised breed now. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/sussex.htm

Depends on a few things: - breed of dog - size of dog - who you ask - who your vet is - personal preference I think the general consensus is that large breed dogs should not be desexed prior to first season, however its not as much of an issue with smaller dogs.

CM does some great things. Some dogs do not respond well to positive reinforcement. One of my dogs would walk all over you if you only ever gave him praise and rewards. He is a turd. Some dogs are turds. Some dogs will try every trick in the book to get one over on you. Do you think mother wolves say to their ratty babies 'hunny, play with this stick instead of biting my tail'. No, they give them a nip! Dogs can handle a bit of negative reinforcement.

Dog breeds will always continue to be crossed to suit new purposes, whether that is for work or for pets. Vision Australia still cross Labs and Goldens to try and create a better seeing-eye dog. If someone is working to try and create a dog for whatever reason, then good on them - as long as they are doing all the relevant health checks. Unfortunately the vast majority of BYB are not doing this, they are simply breeding for the sake of breeding to try and make $$$.

I'm so sorry to hear your gorgeous boy is gone CM. He always looked so happy in your photos and I can only imagine the hole he has left in your heart. RIP Texas.

You could try a DAP diffuser too. You plug them into the wall and they release a calming pheromone. Some people swear by them, we have mixed results at work. Perhaps you could also try walking him before and after work, or leaving a big meaty bone for him?

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss RL. So very sorry.

More Questions About My Foster Boy - Huey!
Kirty replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
What made u decide to have him tested for parvo? Was he given a parvo vacc in the kennels? I take it you wont be keeping him now. Its very disappointing that the rescue group dumped an unquarantined dog straight to an inexperienced foster carer. Not good at all. -
After owning Pia, I will always have a greyhound now. They are just lovely dogs. Thick as a plank, but lovely.
-
I found some other videos where he is in a cart and gets around really well. I don't think its cruel to keep him like that, would have been cruel to leave those back legs on though. He looks very happy here:

Dogs don't suffer the same side effects as people do with chemo, so hopefully the treatment is successful and she has many years left with you.

Jelly and Toffee were adopted (Toffee has gone to a DOLer). Sundae and Cupcake are still here.

Most of the dogs at work settle very quickly once their owners leave. Some do stress a bit so we usually premed them first or if we are quiet, they get lots of cuddles.

OMG that is awful!! Worst one I've had was when I was about 16 and was walking my friends cattle dog. He saw something on the other side of the road and took off towards it. I fell over and was dragged across the entire width of the road on my knuckles. The top of my hands were shredded! The worst part was that I was supposed to be playing the saxophone in a school concert that week and I was desperate to get out of it (hated playing in the band). I was so thrilled when my hands were torn to shreds because I had a genuine excuse! But my hard-arse mother made me play anyway! LOL!

I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Tia.

That's gorgeous.

Thanks guys. They are both very special and I love them to bits. Ginger and Pia are both foster failures! LOL!

Motivating A Sighthound In Obedience
Kirty replied to Merrirose's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Sausage. Seriously. It is the ONLY thing that will keep Pia's attention for more than 5 minutes. LOL! We are going back to obedience soon, so hopefully she hasn't forgotten everything (she only learnt two things so it would be really embarrassing if she has!!). -
Rat Poison (talon) And Dog Safety - Your Advice Please
Kirty replied to UltimatePup's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Can you set lots of snap traps? Or those special ones (the black plastic box things) that catch them? Much safer for the dogs than bait (and more humane ). -
I'm very sorry for your loss. RIP Monty.
