  1. As the owner of a sighthound, it is something that concerns me. My girl lives with 7+ cats and I trust her completely with them but I am planning to take her to Kepala one day and when I do, she will be muzzled. I do not think she is aggressive at all but I think that perhaps in the heat of the moment, a small fluffy dog racing around could trigger an instinctive response. Its not worth the risk IMO. I have seen small dogs being targeted by large dogs in off lead areas and it makes me very anxious.
  2. I am very lucky that in my nursing job, we very very rarely do euthanasias. I have been present for two in the time I've been there and both times I was OK at the time, but bawled my eyes out on the way home! We put a catheter in while the client waited outside the room, then they were able to hold the dog while it was PTS. In both cases it was very much the right thing to do for the dog but still very upsetting.
  3. My grandparents had a Dobe up until very recently and he was a lovely dog. He was entire up until the last few years of his life and he was very dog social. He had an impressive bark but he was such a sook! They were in their late 60's when they got him and they managed fine. He hung out inside a lot and when for an offlead run every morning. My grandfather took him to obedience and he did really really well, but he was always a bit stubborn in that he would do what you asked him - but in his own time. I am currently fostering a Dobe and he is also very dog social and just a total smooch. I would definitely choose a Dobe but that's just me.
  4. Ummm I'd say she is about 90% greyhound! LOL! She is very very cute. And that 'whistle' - greyhounds do it to. I call it screaming. Pia screams if she stubs her toe, or if you pull her collar too hard, if you won't let her inside when she wants to come in... :D
  5. Oh no, cas I am so very very sorry. You did everything you could for Donkey and what a loved little (or not so little) goat he was. I'm so sorry. Sending you massive hugs. xxx
  6. Where abouts was it in Kmart? Toy section? I'll have to get one I think!
  7. I often yell at my dogs to shut up, only to realise it was actually next doors dogs! LOL! They seem to respond to me yelling anyway!
  8. Victoria seems OK to me. I think that some people are going to ruin it for the rest of us very quickly though. I took the kids and dog to Lilydale Lake this afternoon which is a very popular dog walking spot. It also has an offleash area. Well, the amount of dog crap everywhere was absolutely disgusting. I'm talking every 5-10 metres, there was crap. There are rolls of bags and bins everywhere along the trail, so there is no excuse for not picking it up. It's only a matter of time before dogs are banned there. Not to mention the number of offleash dogs in the onlead (or no dog) areas.
  9. I wouldn't go with a Pug. I've met Saxon and I don't think a Pug would suit him! LOL! Shelties aren't my kind of dog, but they are probably more suitable for what you want. They can be yappy though. What about a purebred Poodle?
  10. I would not be letting him off lead at all yet. You have only had him a few days - you don't really know him yet, he doesn't know you, etc. I just wouldn't risk it. Get him settled, get him into training and then consider letting him off lead.
  11. I just got a reply from the museum - this spider is a 'Small-eyed Crab Spider'. http://www.findaspider.org.au/find/spiders/361.htm
  12. This guy was on one of my cat enclosures - to give you an idea of size, each hole in the mesh is about 1cm. He is a male Common Net-Casting Spider - http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_we...nNetCasting.htm
  13. Yeah, you're right. When it was all hunched up on the wall, I was so sure it was a tick!
  14. Because I have four big naughty dogs! I feel stressed enough just taking them to the park, let alone to stay in someone else's accomodation! I don't go away unless a family member can house-sit, so we rarely go away.
  15. No unfortunately. I've sent a photo off to the museum because I can't find it on any ID sites.
  16. This teeny tiny spider was found on a wall in my house. I thought it was a tick at first!
  17. I know, poor thing probably got strangled by the hair...
  18. My husband found this dead spider on the weekend. I am pretty sure it is a huntsman but its colours and patterns were amazing! ETA: I did a Google and this spider is a 'Badge Huntsman' - http://museumvictoria.com.au/spiders/detail.aspx?pid=0
  19. OMG they are so cute! I want the red and white!!
  20. A friend of mine once bought an 'Aussie Terrier cross' from a pet shop who was tiny as a pup - and ended up HUGE! He was some sort of wirey/scruffy crossbreed, looked sort of like 'Benji' but a lot bigger!
  21. A quick google says that Airedales were bred to hunt Otters.
  22. I was always told that those waivers were quite useless if you actually challenged them. I'd be getting a vet check ASAP and making an official complaint in writing to the manager and perhaps the council as well.
