Stop The Use Of Pound Animals For Experiments At Queensland University
Kirty replied to DMA's topic in In The News
I think she is saying that perhaps using dogs in non-recovery surgeries in uni has made them 'cold' towards dogs that are going to die anyway. I can honestly say that the students I have worked with (and there have been a lot) all say the dogs are treated really well, loved and respected. -
Its taken me a week to be able to post this. My beautiful little bunnies escaped from their day-time enclosure last week and were killed by the dogs. They were only a year old. Mustang and Hawkins were my son's birthday present last year, but they quickly became 'my' bunnies. They were the most affectionate, curious little rabbits and I just adored them. RIP Mustang and Hawkins. I'm so sorry.

Take it off. Most dogs aren't bothered by their stitches anyway. If he starts to chew at them, put it back on.

Definitely not the terriers. They have 'normal' dog faces!!

Haha that video is so cute!! My dog couldn't swim when she was younger - she would thrash and flail around like a dying bird. But now she LOVES the water. She is a total water baby. If there is a body of water nearby, she's in - hot or cold, it doesn't matter.

Bumping this up.

I have a horrible fly problem here too. They are biting more Maisie too. We have two fly traps hanging up and within a week, they are completely full! Blerk!!

Pia and my 3 week old foster kitten join myself and the kids for a story every night: And my fave: And finally, a cute one of little Ginger man having a nap on my sister.

We will be there on Sunday, all going to plan.

Sorry, I can't help you as I didn't end up using it (the animal in question was PTS which is why I was giving it away).

Would you like Dash, minty??

And cat people. -
If its bleeding constantly, thats not good. I'd get it checked again and maybe removed. We see lots of warts on old dogs, and some of them are a bit manky, but they generally don't bleed all the time. Does he scratch at it? Perhaps thats why it bleeds?

Why does she need an enclosure? Is your yard not secure? How much time will she spend in it?

Aww look at Alera! How gorgeous! I love the first group photo with the dog going the wrong way! LOL!

Just to clarify, I am fairly sure that it is NOT illegal to breed Scottish Fold cats. I believe it IS illegal to breed a Fold to a Fold, and that is bloody fair enough. Fold to Fold results in severe spinal deformities and usually a whole lot of dead or deformed kittens. Scottish Fold can only be bred to a recognised outcross with normal ears - either a British Shorthair, Persian or the result of these matings, a Scottish Shorthair or Longhair.

Is Anyone Looking For A New Sports Dog?

Bump for Dash. She is booked in to be spayed next Saturday and will be ready to go home shortly after. She would love to find a new family ASAP! -
When I was grooming, we charged $60-$70 to clip a dog. That included a hydrobath, nails, complete blow dry, etc. We preferred to clip every 3 months - the once a year clips were always awful. And I'll never forget the one that hadn't been brushed or clipped for 2 years.

I'm another who will not vaccinate and desex at the same time. It is just too much for their immune systems. It is especially important in cats as it can trigger all sorts of nasty illnesses (dormant cat flu, FIP, etc). I like to leave at LEAST a week between 'stress events'.

So, its OK to use dogs that have been PTS at the pound, but its not OK to use dogs that are GOING to be PTS at the pound? What is the difference? -
I can't have a dog door here because my cats don't go outside. Plus I don't want my destructo dogs inside when I'm not here!

I couldn't really tell you for sure, because she shares the yard with my dogs. She was an only dog at her previous home, but I'm not sure what she was like. She does bark occasionally at my rabbits or the cats in the enclosure, but she is not an excessive barker. She is also very calm indoors. She really needs a working/sporting home though. I have had lots of enquiries from people wanting a pet, but I just think this dog needs to be doing something. -

I spoke to one of our vet students yesterday about this and she was adamant that the animals are very well treated and cared for very well. The university she goes to has actually stopped doing non-recovery surgeries and she is concerned about that. She said she learnt a lot from her work on non-recoveries. I am going to approach the uni and see if they would be interested in letting the vet students desex my trap-neuter-release cats because I believe that they need all the practice they can get. :D -
At 9 weeks, I'd say it is not going to fix itself. If it is a really large hernia, the op might be more involved. But generally it is very simple - all they do is open up the skin, suture the abdominal wall closed, then close the skin. You need to keep the puppy quiet so it doesn't pop the stitches though! I had a litter of foster kittens who all had umbilical hernias, and they were repaired with no issues.
