  1. Absolutely agree dogmad, but it is a very tough situation. I suspect that Pia 'caused' the fight by snapping at Phoebe, but Phoebe has completely overreacted. They are 100% seperated for now and it was the first incident they've ever had. But Phoebe has hip dysplasia, food allergies, and is terrified of people. I can't just rehome her. And I haven't been able to bring myself to do anything else.
  2. She is definitely a very special dog. She is so gentle with all of our animals, even the rabbits and tiny kittens. But no, that is not her bed. That is my 3yo daughters bed. Pia had just joined us for stories at bed time.
  3. Please do email me dogmad!! She just doesn't seem to get it! She knows she has to toilet when we are outside, but she can't make the connection that she can NOT toilet inside!! LOL!! [email protected]
  4. I agree with Pers. I really don't like the look of it. It is too bent over the eyes which would restrict vision, and I think it covers the nose too much. It is a problem though, trying to find collars for flat-faced dogs. We generally trim the collars right down, not much else you can do. dog geek - these collars to to protect the dogs from rubbing their eyes after eye surgery, etc not to stop them licking wounds.
  5. Look closely... This is Pia with my almost 3 week old orphaned foster kitten.
  6. I had so much fun Jules. I let the instructors work Dash today (I was scared she was going to attack the sheep, she was so keen ) but next time I'm going to try. Will you be going there any time soon?
  7. Dash went to her first herding clinic this morning and she showed some great potential! The instructors have offered some half price lessons to whoever adopts her, because they think she will be a fantastic herding dog. ETA: She is definitely NOT shy or submissive around the sheep either! LOL!
  8. Oops sorry, I just read your post properly. I thought we were talking about adult dogs. Yes, pups should be done once a month until 6 months for worms. So for a little puppy, you could worm with Drontal once a month, and use Revolution once a month - then you are covered for intestinal worms, heartworm and fleas. :D ETA: Most supermarket products are crap and some are downright dangerous (like the cat flea treatments that contain pyrethrins).
  9. No, not from the supermarket. All-wormers only treat intestinal worms. You need something else for heartworm. You can use tablets or injections or, as I prefer, Revolution. I use Ambex tablets for my dogs, but I know a lot of people use Drontal.
  10. Worming should be done every 3 months with an allwormer tablet. Some spot-on flea treatments can be halved to use on different dogs, but not all. I know that Advantage is definitely safe for that (I buy the large dog treatments and divide them up for my cats). If you decide to use Revolution, that treats fleas and heartworm (not not intestinal worms). I imagine it would be fine to buy a larger dose of Revolution and divide it between two dogs.
  11. I met a dilute black tri Aussie the other day!! So technically I think its called a solid blue tri. Absolutely STUNNING dog! :D
  12. No, nothing like that. She was in a fight with one of my other dogs. :D She has a few stitches on her rib cage, that's it. Oh and she just peed on the carpet AGAIN. She is doing normal, big wees too - whenever my cats have had UTI's they are doing really small, frequent wees. I honestly think she just does not get it.
  13. Not to mention they also get to spend some time being cared for properly, cuddled by the students, etc. I know the students I work with always tell me that they make a fuss of the dogs beforehand. But the point is, these dogs were going to be PTS anyway. There is no difference between being PTS at the pound and PTS at the uni. Actually, there probably is. At the uni they would have premeds so be nice and relaxed before being knocked out.
  14. I take her out the front to toilet and she is always happy enough to go outside. She doesn't seem to mind the wet weather, and a toilet break often turns into zoomies on the front lawn! She goes to the toilet almost every time I take her out. Cosmolo, her last toilet break is usually at 11pm. She sleeps on our bed at night and she often wakes at about 5-6am and I take her outside again then. I learnt the hard way if I try and settle her at that time without taking her out, she'll pee or poop in our room! I will definitely get her tested for a UTI too. Thanks. :D
  15. No UTI that I am aware of, she wees normally and seems happy in herself. She IS a greyhound, so a little slow on the uptake, but this is getting ridiculous!
  16. I should also add that she seems perfectly happy inside and she is also just as happy to go outside. A few time she has even got up and stood at the door to go out, at which point I praise her and we go outside.
  17. She is 15mths old. I guess what confuses me is that she was fine before, but all of a sudden because she is spending more time inside, she thinks she can go anytime anywhere?
  18. For the past 1.5 weeks (due to an injury), Pia has become a 24/7 indoor dog. Prior to this, she was indoor/outdoor (sleeping outside in the garage with the other dogs) and had never had an accident inside to my knowledge. Now, she is having regular accidents though and its driving me crazy! She is not on any meds so it can't be that and she is on the same diet, etc. The day goes something like this - wake up, take her straight outside for a loo break. When she goes, I praise her like mad and bring her back inside. She comes to work with me and has regular loo breaks then too. Get home and its straight outside again, with a few more trips outside before bed. But she just cannot grasp the concept that she CANNOT go to the toilet inside. Two nights ago, she got up off her bed and peed on the floor right in front of me! This was after 3 days with no accidents. Today my mum looked after her, and after about 1/2 an hour inside she peed and pooped in the family room. I just don't know what I am doing wrong. Or is she just extremely slow? On the two occasions that she has gone to the toilet right in front of me, I roused on her and took her outside then praised her. Any tips? I am really over cleaning up!!
  19. Bump for Dash. She will be attending a herding clinic on Sunday so I'll let you know how she goes.
