  1. We had some come into work recently. We got lots of cuddles and they are just gorgeous, happy little dogs. They were real yappers though! The lady said they aren't super noisy at home but obviously they get excited when they are out! LOL! They also do have some inherited health problems so health-testing on parents is essential. Oh and can someone remind me how to pronounce the name? The breeder told me but I have forgotten! It is Griffon Brooshaloo?
  2. The majority of our patients are older dogs and they all cope very well. They tend to take a little bit longer to recover (in that the younger dogs will be back to their normal self by that night, whereas the older ones might take a full 24 hrs) but otherwise, they generally have nice, stable anaesthetics and recoveries. We have also knocked out cruddy old dogs with heart murmurs and rotten teeth, and they have all been fine too. Good luck for Zoe on Friday.
  3. I have visited a 'breeder' who supplies a large number of PP stores in Victoria, and if she isn't a puppy farmer, I don't know what is. 200+ dogs living in squalor, puppies shipped off at 6 weeks old (because they are cuter and smaller), several litters with ringworm (but its not serious and will fix itself, so no need to tell the store or the new owners), breeds being deliberately labelled incorrectly so that they will sell better...
  4. I gave my dogs chicken carcasses for dinner tonight - the older dogs and the foster got two each, the grey got three and the GD had about five. :D Anyway, I normally spread the dogs out around the yard and give them their pile each. So all the dogs start woofing them down, except Maisie. She likes to take her time. Once the others had finished I went inside (Maisie can look after herself!). I cooked dinner and fed the kids, then happened to glance outside to see Maisie still chomping. She was STILL finishing off the last carcass!! Seriously, it has taken her almost 40 minutes to eat TWO chicken carcasses. I have never known a dog to eat bones so slowly! Dryfood she gulps down, but I guess she just likes to enjoy the bones. LOL!
  5. Absolutely amazing!! http://news.ninemsn.com.au/glanceview/1282...dam-wall.glance
  6. Ooh I thought it was a grey nurse! Very cool! I like sharks but I think I would poop my pants if I saw one! LOL! We went snorkelling in Fiji and as we were getting back on the jet ski, someone spotted a reef shark! Very glad we were heading off!
  7. Three out of my four don't usually go when we are walking. But devil dog Champa goes 99% of the time. He doesn't even stop, just keeps on walking while he drops his load. No amount of correction will stop him. I then have to track back 20m picking up all the deposits. Blurgh! Pia tried to go in the middle of CBD when we went in for the rally but thankfully a quick correction stopped her. We were on our way home anyway, so we stopped at a park on the way home so she could go there.
  8. I didn't know you could get long hair koolies. They are very pretty. Those pups will need to be kept out of the sun as well.
  9. Scroll down to see the white pups - they look like merle to merle Aussies to me. http://www.aaps.org.au/dogs/dogs_page_three-b.html
  10. Cool! What type of shark is that?
  11. I work at a vet clinic and we get some MASSIVE am staffs in. We had a bitch in recently who was built like a mac truck. From memory she was close to 40kg. She was HUGE. Lovely natured dog, but not what an Am Staff is meant to look like!
  12. Some people's emails have bounced, so if are having trouble, please pm me your email address and I will forward it on.
  13. Thanks for all the info. I had a good chat with the owners of the MT today and they told me much the same thing. Although the websites I read last night said they were not yappy, these owners said their dog was very yappy!
  14. I'm no expert but that sounds heavy to me. But he could just be a big puppy. Puppies should be well covered, but they should not be fat. You should be able to feel his ribs. Can you post a pic that shows his body?
  15. Hi all! The eye specialists at our clinic have started sending out monthly newsletters to registered breeders. The newsletters contain information about eye issues in dogs and how they may affect your breeding program. Past topics include PRA and extra eyelashes. The next newsletter is on retinal dysplasia. If you are interested in receiving a monthly emailed newsletter regarding eye issues in dogs, please email Bron from Animal Eye Care: [email protected] Once you have signed up, you can organise to be sent back issues. Please feel free to also suggest topics that affect your breed. Thanks!
  16. Whoa!! That was like watching a normal dog in fast forward!! What an awesome little dog!!
  17. I met my first Manchester Terrier today and she was GORGEOUS! Granted she was sedated so I didn't get a good indication of her temperament, but she was so sweet! LOL! I'd love to know more about the breed (although I understand they are pretty uncommon in Australia). Does anyone here have them?
  18. Oh no, I am so sorry. He sounded like an amazing dog. RIP gorgeous Eric. Big hugs for you Crits.
  19. Female ferrets will die if they don't breed, which is why you should always have non-breeders desexed.
  20. RIP beautiful princess. Big hugs Caz.
  21. Three of my four dogs do it, and the fourth used to do it! I swear the main offender taught the others. Its absolutely disgusting. The main offender will literally stand behind the others while they go... I guess the only upside is that there is less sh*t to pick up...
  22. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=8102586 Police on the NSW south coast are hunting thugs who used fireworks to blast an echidna to death. Officers made the grim discovery when they went to a home in Woonona, a northern suburb of Wollongong, about 6pm (AEST) following reports of explosions. In the backyard they found the dead mammal, fireworks, a lawn mower catcher and a fuel can. "It appears the fireworks were attached to the animal with electrical tape and ignited," a police statement said. "This is a very disturbing act and such cruelty towards animals will not be tolerated," Acting Inspector Shannon Spargo said on Saturday. "Police will be doing all they can to track down those responsible and ensure they feel the full force of the law,"
  23. Ask her if she would like a blind dog by the time its 6 years old? We see so many oodles with PRA. Reputable breeders of purebred dogs DNA test for it, puppy farmers don't.
  24. Haha this is funny. Moselle, I also think of myself as an animal lover - which is why I became a vegetarian. If you are so concerned about how animals being hunted might be treated, how about you spend half an hour on the animal liberation website? Perhaps that might open your eyes. I chose to give up meat because I believe that meat animals (in general) are treated very cruelly. I have seen on numerous occasions cattle trucks with cows that have fallen down and are being crushed, chicken trucks with blood dripping down the back of the cages, sheep being transported on 40 degree days, packed like sardines with no shelter. Sorry, but how is that LESS cruel than a swift kill in a paddock? And with regards to people 'not needing to witness killing to have meat', well just who should be killing them then? Should we send all the nutters off to work in a secret meat works so that the 'normal' people don't have to witness it? People SHOULD know where they meat comes from. If everyone took an interest, perhaps they would realise how cruel the industry is and work to change it. But no, much like puppy farms, the end result is a neat little package so who cares where it came from?
