  1. I'd get her checked by the vet. It could just be a habit (in which case an E-collar for a few weeks should resolve the issue) or it could be an allergy, etc.
  2. Show-bred Border Collies generally have a medium-long coat. However working Border Collies come in smooth and long coats. There is quite a bit of variation in the coat of pedigree BCs though so sometimes you get a pup with a shorter coat or a super fluffy one, etc.
  3. To answer a previous post, yes lots of people are taking dogs. I am taking our GSN Greyhound and my own old rescue dog Maisie. :D
  4. I have fliers stuck on my car and have put one up at work. We will be there with two dogs.
  5. I am so very sorry. I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face. My heart absolutely breaks for you - I so understand that special love/hate relationship that we have with our special cats. Their quirks just make them even more lovable. Sending you massive hugs hun. RIP Ari and Baz.
  6. Poor Yogi, that is just awful. I hope he is a very smooth recovery with no complications. Big hugs for you too.
  7. I tried to call the DPI last week and couldn't get through to anyone to actually ask about traps. I'm thinking they have very short opening hours.
  8. We are going to take her to the river soon - she'll love that! I am very proud of my friend for keeping her, and not just keeping her, but making an effort with her. Labsrule, Gemma is from a dodgy pet shop so she may be a cross. Her coat is not long though, she just looks 'fluffy' because she had been rolling around in the bark and shaking. She has these gorgeous waves all down her back. :p
  9. Also, I'm having trouble picturing the type of area he is in, but would it be possible to slowly block him into smaller and smaller areas by erecting mesh fencing with stakes? Or you have a heap of people with a massive length of mesh, then you slowly block him in?
  10. I'm thinking it would also be worthwhile buying or borrowing a catch pole if possible. That way you can grab him even if he is being nasty.
  11. Sorry Chewy. I was hopeful too. I can't help tonight or tomorrow, but possibly Monday?
  12. My friend proudly told me that Gemma doesn't need washing, because the dirt usually falls off after a day or so... She called me a few days later to tell me that Gemma was still dirty! LOL!
  13. Edited because the place I thought would hire dog traps doesn't! I just called a private animal rescuer and he does have a trap that would work but he is a private business so definitely not cheap. He is a lovely person though and said the council and or RSPCA should be able to do something to catch this dog (which we both laughed at). He also suggested the media if no help can be saught. He said the dog may need to be darted by a vet or otherwise you could try putting out some food with sedatives. He said it can take months to catch stray dogs though if they have a food source.
  14. Have a close look at the photo of the kid - what the hell is going on with the cat in the right corner??? Of course the dog should not be destroyed. The dog was doing its job, the police were doing their job. Hey parents - if you're so concerned about your son, stop doing drugs. Idiots.
  15. Can you hire a trap? That might be the easiest way to catch him.
  16. Some of you might remember that my friend was trying to rehome her young Lab a few months ago. I am pleased to say that she finally stepped up to the plate and decided to keep Gemma and has been doing really well with her. Anyway, we went to the park the other day and my friend decided to let Gemma off the lead for the first time. She just followed my dog everywhere at first - but then she found THE PUDDLE. Now, by puddle I mean a 1 foot deep 2 foot wide hole full of muddy water... Gemma suddenly discovered her water-loving heritage and had a BALL playing in the muddle, rolling around in it and putting her head as far under the water as possible. The result? Oh that's not too bad... Hmmm maybe it is...
  17. I met a liver Staffy a few weeks ago (from a registered breeder who was very shocked to see the colour pop up). I'd be willing to bet thats what they have. The puppy I met was a light brown colour, definitely not red, fawn or brindle. It was very cute! ETA: here is a link to a pic of liver pups. http://www.knightwoodoak-staffies.com/page...er-1324798.html
  18. Get a tin of Whiskas B&S! Something fishy or even the lamb and kidney one - they are pretty woofy. Good luck! And good on you for helping this dog.
  19. If you see her barking at them, squirt her with a water pistol or bottle. Hopefully she will lose interest in them eventually!
  20. If the murmur is very mild, I'd take the pup. As long as you weren't planning on doing agility or something.
  21. Yes, you need to own and register the extra animals before you can apply for a permit. A permit in my council costs $170 PER YEAR plus the rego's for each animal which are $30 each per year.
  22. When I was younger I thought working in a pet shop would be my dream job - I worked in one for three weeks and left in tears. It might be worth a shot, but don't go in there expecting to change things. I also wouldn't count on learning anything there.
  23. If your dog attacks another dog, you pay the bill. Simple as that. If its out of character, thats a shame, but it doesn't mean you don't have to pay up!

    Greyhound

My Greyhound also lives with cats and rabbits and she has a moderate prey drive - I have not noticed an increase after exercise. I think you do need to keep on top of them though in terms of watching how they interact with the smaller animals. She has definitely become more keen on the rabbits recently and we've had to remind her they are NOT toys! Kippers Mum, is your girl black by any chance??
