Bloat is the precursor to torsion. Bloat on its on is not a huge drama, the torsion component is what is so dangerous.
-
ANY breed can get bloat in the right conditions? I hope he is OK.

In that case, it could well be the vaccination site. If it gets any bigger, or doesn't reduce in size in a week or two, I'd head off to the vet.
-
The microchip often can't be felt, but if it can, it feels like a grain of rice. When was he last vacc'd? If it was recently, it could be that. If not, I would be getting it checked by the vet.

How Do You Know When The Time Is Right
Kirty replied to nattiej1976's topic in General Dog Discussion
Its definitely normal. Everyone grieves differently so nobody can tell you if you are ready for another dog. But you will never forget Kato, he will always hold a special place in your heart. And he would want you all to be happy. -
Oh I agree, I am just saying thats why I gave her ace last night. If she was healthy, I would be walking her and getting her out and about. As you would know pers, working dogs need to exercise their bodies AND their minds. She is not a terrified dog, just really highly strung and being cooped up is not helping one bit.
-
I gave her some ace last night because she just wouldn't settle but it didn't seem to help much! Might need to increase the dose. I just feel so sorry for her. She should be on a farm herding sheep, not stuck in a cage. She has lead a very sheltered life so far - doesn't know what toys are, impossible to walk on lead, very anxious... The previous owners were an older couple - WHY would you get a working type BC if you are old and don't want to do anything with the bloody dog?!
-
I currently have an 8mo BC x foster dog who is on crate rest due to a broken back leg. Some people have suggested some things to keep her sane during this time, but I am having trouble doing anything with her. She is a very hyped-up, anxious dog who can't seem to concentrate on anything because she is so worked up all the time. She is always panting, whining, yawning and trying to climb on me! I would dearly love some professional help to get us on the right track. Unfortunately this girl is likely to need expensive surgery in the coming weeks so I just can't afford to pay someone. Is there anyone who would be so kind as to help us? I know its a big ask but I'm desperate.

Gosh I hope not.

OMG the poor boy. I think I would try and get the pancreatitis under control first, then worry about beefing him up. You do have some funds coming your way though, which should help with the food!!

OMG Zeke is sooooo cute!! I love BT's!!

I am so very sorry for your loss horus. You and Toby were so lucky to find each other. RIP gorgeous boy.

Need Advice For New Doggy Door For Giant Breed
Kirty replied to mish13's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think side hinges would be the way to go, with two flaps that open in the middle (like the old 'saloon' doors they had on the pubs you see in western movies). -
Have asked my friend in Gisbourne to keep an eye out and spread the word. Keeping everything crossed they are found very very soon xxx

Ah yes, I remember my grooming days well... A few horror stories that spring to mind are the two fluffies with the most disgusting ear infections I've ever seen. I could smell them from about 5m away. Their ears were literally rotting away inside. Their ears were matted to their heads hence the infections. I marched the owners out to see what a disgusting state their dogs were in, and they had no idea. They musn't have touched those dogs for months because you couldn't avoid that smell. Another was this gorgeous old fluffy who was so totally neglected. The owner bought him for the kids but he was 'too fluffy' so he was relegated to the backyard. Never allowed inside, never walked, never brushed and hadn't been clipped for two years when I was called. I wanted to put him in my car and take him home, he broke my heart. He was the worst matted dog I have ever seen, and he had hardly any hair on his back due to his massive flea infestation. When I showed the owner, she had the nerve to claim 'it wasn't like that last week'. Bull-bloody-shit!!! He was such an angel of a dog but I never saw him again.

I'm so sorry Anne. She was a gorgeous girl. RIP Miss Molly

I don't know Jodi, but am going through the same thing with my old girl. She is 10 and had cruciate surgery a few months ago. We have just been away for a week, and when we came home I suddenly realised how old she looks.

Frustrating, isn't it. I got a call today for someone wanting to adopt a rescue dog from me so they could breed it with their dog! Ummm firstly, nothing leaves here entire, and secondly, why?? They are just too tight to actually buy a dog so they try and source a cheap rescue dog. Every day at work I see the sad result of these hap-hazard breedings and its so depressing.
-
It is very sad, but I do think it was the right thing to do. Very brave of the owners to make the hard decision.

Very cool photos huga!! Really beautiful. Have to ask though, what is with that pigeon?? Its so bizarre looking!!

Pit Bull Vs Bull Terrier Attacks In The Media.

Also, there are nowhere near as many Bull Terriers around these days and they are not hugely popular with BYBs. -
Dog Training In Se Suburbs Melbourne
Kirty replied to thebear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would definitely recommend Underdog training. They have helped me with a very timid dog in the past. We also used a group in Ringwood (Eastern Companion Dog Training) for another dog when she was a pup 10 years ago, and they were great.
