  1. I am getting calls everyday about snakes and snake sightings. Normally they have slowed by now but the IndianSummer has kept themaround a bit longer. Sorry for the loss of the pup.
  2. Different yard, different dog...ah the serenity
  3. The red bellied black snakes venom has been known to be necrotic but red bellies have never been a cause of fatalaties in humans. I imagine the toxicity and load of each snake would vary as well so you would not want to generalise. A lot of times a bite will ulcerate and get infected, causing hairloss and skin problems, but this is just the reaction to the venom. Exotic viperid venom is a different kettle of fish altogether..
  4. In other countries, some of the venomous snakes, vipers in particular, have necrotic venom. This means the venoms has flesh eatiing properties and in theory would cause a small bodied animal to decompose a bit quicker I suppose. Australian snakes do not use venom for digestion of prey so the answer to your question about the eastern brown snake is , "not likely". But if a large snake envenomated a small animal, maybe the process might be sped up.. Hope that helps
  5. Dogs are fine and did not get envenomated. Very lucky fuzzy little mongels though.
  6. This snake was terrorising these workers yesterday, sorry about the language.
  7. Im sure you could use snake poo, shed skins, a roadkilled dead snake or even a bluetongue. No stress for the pet snake because the dosnt get a chance to scare it..i would gladly use one of my pet snakes if I could snake proof my dog. The collars are legal and readily available to,
  8. Watch this I have always said that if you can teach your dog not to attack a snake, then its chances of being bitten are radically reduced. The elecronic remote controlled pulse collars are need though, unless you have another way of stopping your dog.
  9. That pic is cute Bullish, i want to pinch it to post on the Facebook ok, lol. This video of a cat watching Starwars is just crazy to.. I know its not a dog but it's sort of still rellevant and bloody hilarious to. have a great day Oh, I hate it when my wife and i have been making the love, and we turn around and both the dogs are sitting there silently watching. My wife gets embarrassed to, lol, so cute I think my dogs are more into live performances.
  10. Snakes will be with us for a couple of months yet so be vigilant with your animals. Good luck to Murphy.
  11. Hi Nina, It cant hurt to spray phenyl around but there are venomous snakes that climb to. Tiger snakes love to raid birdnests and readily climb trees to do it. Where you live in hervy bay, they are most likely pythond and harmless tree snakes in the trees but not always. I have been bitten by most animals, from insects to wombats and goannas and venomous snakes as well as ducks, dogs, cats and pretty much everything. I have never been hospitalised by a venomous snake and i put that down to dumb luck mostly. I worked on Phillip Island for the Superbike races last month and took this bit of video which some people might find disturbing.. Watch it to the end
  12. These guys were happy to have their little visitor removed from the front yard. These people were just embarrassed.. Monster Who is going to the Reptile Expo at the Flemington Showground today?
  13. This is the final installment in the saga of Stitch the young tigersnake. After over in month living in a plastic container, he gets to feel the grass on his tummy and the sun on his back. He is such a little fighter, im sure he will live a long and happy life on this snake friendly private property.
  14. Removing stitches from the mouth of a tiger snake was always going to be tricky.. Check it out :)
  15. A pet snake is one you would buy from a pet shop or licenced snake owner / breeder. A wild snake is obviously a snake that was born and bred in the bush. Most snakes will calm down and be less inclined to bite and I have caught many wild snakes that would seem to the observer to be tame. Wild snakes only bite when they get scared or hurt, so that is why I try not to do either when I relocate them. I dont think any snake, wild or captive, ever actually becomes 'dog tame'. They become more tolerant of us and they soon work out wether you are respecting their needs or not. The lost pet python at the English ladies place was cold, so I knew that it would be less likely to bite me if I was gentle with it. Nic, it dosnt hurt to carry a stick, but the most important thing is to be aware of where you put your foot down and be aware of what is around you. Cheers
  16. i spoke to the vet today, the turtle has had her operation and will make a full recovery.. This tiger snake was rescued from a shovel hero a few weeks ago, stitched up and is now ready for release. Here I am taking the stitches out in preparation for release. Oh yeah, Ive never been hospitalised from a snakebite, And gillybob, brownsnakes make me nervous to so youre not alone there mate.
  17. Speaking of long necked turtles, this one was hit by a car so we went to Karingal vet hospital and got her fixed up.
  18. I do love it Tintin, Ever since I was a little kid Ive been catching snakes and I see phobic and terrified people every day. Its great when I can get them to see the snake in a different light and take away some of the stigma.
  19. I have been busy and Ive also added a few videos of animal rescues and snakes ect, This snake rescue video was take yesterday in Cranbourne.
  20. Very cute, good luck with the little guy. Hope he gets well soon.
  21. Seems like youre trying to do the right thing Silvawillow, apart from the dead snake, I hope you never see another snake there but dont get complacent and go barefoot through the grass after a few vinos. This video is not a happy cute one, but it is short. Dont watch it if you are sensitve.
  22. OSoSwift, can you buy the OH a cheap digi camera to keep handy or at least get him to use the camera on the mobile phone. You never know what you might see. My friend took this footage af a goanna and a brownsnake sharing the same home in the wild on her WA property.
  23. Yes, bluetongues and snakes will live together, it is an old wives tale. Big bluetongues eat heaps of baby snakes though. Im not a collecter of reptiles but I do have a few pets. These are my enclosures for them but i have cleaned the glass and addded plants, ect to the enclosures.
