  1. This comes back to what poodlefan said - you own the game and resourses and you initiate and end the game when and how you want it. Ruthless can show you how to teach out, well I think she can.....
  2. I love love love this pic of Divani. I now want that lense too
  3. Thank you speedy2, thats a great website for other tips and tricks too
  4. never mind could be translated into absent mind. And you know what happens when you are absent in mind
  5. I preffer Rocco with drool!!!! As to my dogs, well..... Im a crap photographer but willing to learn. Divani is perfect for portraits, she will sit or drop or stand and just look at me for an hour if I want that. Rex on another hand will not look at me when I have a camera in my hand. Action shots are for now non existent as I didnt master the art yet.
  6. I can back this up But in all seriousness I think you need to have a look at your goals for your dog and than decide what and how you are going to do it. Be prepared that what you want might not be achievable. I for example wanted to do sch with Divani, she isnt suitable for the bite part, but we can still enjoy doing other two parts. and a variety of other sports to go along with that. I wanted to show her, and I did, this came with some problems but I worked on them as it was important to me. I hardly ever walk my dogs on the streets so lets say if they pull me a little its not a problem for me. I let them off in parks where there are no other dogs and dont really let them socialise with unknown dogs, so their recall is important to me. I trial Divani so I want her to do certain types of excercises for the obedience. And at home there are rules such as no jumping on people, getting on furniture only when invited, no stealing food from anywhere and going to bed when I say so. And they do all that perfectly. Well Rex lets himself onto my bed on occasion, but I put a blind eye to that, so I guess he is allowed there with no invitation
  7. I dont know how clueless you are , but Rex was my first dog ever in my life, Divani is second and I had NO IDEA when I bought Rex in 2000. My dogs are not perfect, I hope you dont have this impression!
  8. If you assert yourself as a leader and stay that way she will stop. She only tries as she thinks she can. make sure she stops thinking she can. Meaning assert yourself more for longer. I have never seen your dog, but when I train at the club Id say that most dogs dont have the right leadership at home. My Rex knows many tricks I enjoyed teaching him new behaviours and he enjoyed showing off in front of friends kids. Spinning, playing dead, barking on command, finding hiden objects and we always ended the performance with the bow Kids loved it, loved Rex and he likes kids too. Each kid wanted to give him piece of liver for doing something, there were times Rex had 5 command issued at the same time and would look at me with the face - WTF do I do now??? I had to save him at times :D Rex is one of those dogs that is a quiet dominator and very sneaky at it too. He knows the rules and he knows what he can get away with, and doesnt try going overboard these days at all. I really cant recall when was the last time I issued a formal command for him. Well thats a lie as I was walking him the other day and asked him to heel and do an auto sit. He was in shock :p but he did it But before that it was several months. But he blew my recall too and decided to pee on a tree before coming back to me.
  9. grooming would be one. But to me training is something that not only doesnt interfere but strenghtens the bond. Teach her a zillion tricks if you are bored. You can pet her (so you get the satisfaction) so many times you will be sick of it. Well not really but you know what I mean.
  10. Thank you Dette. I teach Divani the IPO way than, food in each steps than lessening of the food. Articles are pieces of leather, and for now she has no idea what they are for. Must explore the ANKC way, and it does sound more difficult, although the IPO people tell me theirs is more difficult. I guess Ill form my opinon once I learn about it more. I know NOTHING about tracking, but if there was anything my dog was born to do its tracking, she is brilliant at it, so I decided to learn a bit and do it with her. I didnt enjoy it at first at all, I still dont, well its growing on me, but I can see how she fast progressed when I did it few times with her and it gives me satisfaction. We have a very long way to go to get to trailing level, so dont hold your breath for now :D As to competing in all sorts of stuff. Well if I decide to compete in any IPO event I wont be hiding it, I dont do any bite work so I yeah anyone take me on about my dangerous dog IPO has titles in separate categories too so I will try to get BH, tracking and obedicne in both IPO and ANKC. Wellllll thats the big dream/ big plan. How much I will achieve thats another story :D Sexy Rexy is an old man now and he has mastered the art of sleeping on my bed, looking lovingly, occasionally barking at the gate and being the best of the best dog ever. And I happy with his achievements in last 4 years
  11. I thought that they are nearly the same. I know people that have done both sucessfully, so they cant be THAT different. From what I understand Schutzhund one is more precise, thats all. so things like pausing and picking the article up is not allowed in sch but at the end of the day the dog has to find the article and indicate it somehow. And from what I understand most people use the drop as the indicator. I will be using piece of leather.
  12. I guess it depends in which sport (what organisation) Id say its the safest to teach a drop.
  13. ML - Im talking about articles on the track, not about seek back or retrieving articles/gloves in obedience. Are we talking about the same thing? The articles on the track, the dog tracks your footsteps and than finds an article (piece of leather) and is to drop (no command) once it finds it with the article between its front paws. I was adviced NOT to play tug with the articles, as apparently last thing you want is the dog actually picking it up. I havent taught the articles on the track as yet, and when time comes to train I will just follow one trainers advice. But Im interested in different methods how people teach this.
  14. How do you teach your dog? Two of my friends where talking about how they did theirs and one taught the dog on the track, the other off the track.
  15. OMG!!!!!!!!! You are serious and on a mission!!! I good luck
  16. Exactly what I would worry about. To a non expert there might be a to of a fine line to distingush between one type an the other. Personally I would not allow it to growl like Trixie did. But each to their own.
  17. I played over and over with Ziggy (dobe) and she growled. I play with my friends malinois and he growls Trixies growl that I had seen was different. She growled with me a bit, but how she growled with Ruthless was different and it worried me a bit. Im no expert, but if it was my dog I wouldnt be doing tugging with it like that. Especially that the dog is a pet and there is no real need for Trixie to be building more drive and playing tug like that. She can release the prey drive in other non confrontational ways. JMO. ruthless Im game enough to try her again tho It came to my atention that there were few people with this problem hence I asked Troy to change my nick for me slightly.
  18. Ive seen Trixie quite a few times now and I belive she has far more prey drive than Chopper. She has engaged in play with me immiediatelly at the club, with dogs around her. If she was weak nerved and worried about the situation she wouldnt engage in a pretty serious play with a stranger. But the quite serious growling she did with you during tug play would worry me.
  19. She might improve with time, but you should also be aware that she might also be more affraid in the grumpy old age.
  20. Your solution is to desesitise her to things she finds threatning. Well I think its the only solution, but Im no expert. She nay never be able to be fine with everything, as it might be her genetic make up and experiences fron the past. Experiences during fear impact periods can last a life time, you might able to get the reaction weakened but might not be able to fully "fix" her.
  21. Welcome to DOL Bernadette!!! Monika with Rex and Divani
