Do you work at the pound kidspirit? I've not noticed you before and it appears you are speaking from authority? To be fair, that is probably saying more about my lack of observation than anything else as I can see you have made a few hundred posts. :)

Could he also have been bitten by a snake? I hope he us found safe and well.

I do think there is a need for concern and powerlegs has mentioned some of those concerns. I don't think the concerns have any relevance to DOL however and I think people need to stop including DOL into the discussion. DOL is a social forum, not a rescue specific website. It is a non core business add on to a commercial website about purebred dogs. The issue is the procedure at Hawkesbury Pound and the risks and associated problems that are now exposing the pound to potential negative outcomes because of the perceived or actual monopolisation of a single rescue organisation. I'd suggest that rescues with concerns put them in writing to the Council and or Pound staff. Concerns should be made in a reasonable and considered manner. Abusive correspondence and or calls are much less likely to be considered seriously.
-
Have you raised your concerns directly with the pound staff? I know what you are saying, I really do. However raiising the issue here does nothing to help or resolve the situation, and in fact, only increases the antagonism and angst.
-
Blacktoen List, thanks. The offer of putting up a list here will help people in the interim. Malti, while I can understand what you are saying I think you need to recognise that Hawkesbury pound staff hold ultimate responsibility here, not any other rescue. If Hawksbury's system is such that one organisation can tentatively hold most of the dogs, and the system shows it can be tenuous at best, then Hawkesbury need to be alerted to the potential problems. I wouldn't think that it is a sustainable system.

Obviously I'd rather they go to the pound. However I know for certain the each of my three are easily identified by their chips. Chip migration is not as common as it used to be many years ago either so it is not such a common risk factor any more.

What a gorgeous expressive face she has!

Surely pound staff are using their own judgements though and calling specific rescues when needed? Why would they ignore other rescues if the dog is at risk? Has anyone contacted pound management to express their concerns about dogs being left at risk with this method? Are rescues failing to take to take appropriate action to resolve the problems faced? If management are not aware of issues they can't be expected to ensure that the issues are resolved.

So it is Hawkesbury Pound that are not forthcoming with information about dogs in need or is it someone acting on their behalf (officially or unofficially)?
-
Sorry, I am just trying to clarify for the benefit of people reading, and myself, what the issue is. If there are none to rescue then why would they need to be listed here? Why are there none needing rescue? There is obvious angst simmering in this thread.
-
And who has done this previously? Is there a reason why it has stopped? Is it the pound that has stopped it?
-
If my dogs were found wandering, I'd much rather someone took them to a vet to check for a microchip so that they could contact me to let me know they were ok. No way would I want my guys impounded.
-
Is Hawkesbury limiting rescuers though? Who normally takes the pics and posts them on DOL, staff at Hawkesbury or a rescuer?
-
Playing at being objective here re: comment about logging in to FB. Why should anyone have to log in to DOL using the same reasoning?

My guys loved the antlers. The problem with them though was that one developed a very sharp point which actually cut the roof of Boof's mouth, toward the soft palate, and after the initial panic that he had an unexplained ulcer that was possibly cancerous, we realised it was just the bone causing the damage. I threw the antlers in the bin and went back to the nylabone.

Each state has their own laws in relation to this issue. In NSW they required to take the dog to the closest pound to where the animal was found or to a vet who has to hd the dog for the pound to collect. I believe in Tas it is still legal to keep thR animal while you attempt to locate the owner.

My pugs all chew their Nylabones on a daily basis. I actually get tired of standing on the bones that they leave everywhere! I think they're worth the money. I recently picked one up in Bali for about $3 which was a bargain.

Time out guys. :)

Some dogs have it in their nature and it takes strong and knowledgeable ownership to have dogs of this nature. The Pb is not a teddy bear. It is often wrongly accused of crimes but the only way to fix it is to acknowledge the type of dog it is and restrict the ownership to people who understand the dog's nature and how to manage it.

Was the hound in a designated off leash area?

Renting? And Want A Dog Door This Is So Cool
~Anne~ replied to Atanquin's topic in General Dog Discussion
I also had a pig in mud for a short amount of time. My only issue with these style is that if your opening is only a normal door width or only a little larger, adding an additional panel makes the opening even smaller. I could barely get through the door with a washing basket with ours. In the end I ordered new doors with a fixed glass panel that had a hole cut through it for installation of a dog door and I gave the pig in mud to my mother in law. -
Can you provide links to legislation or proposals then.

Sydney Abbatoir Closed For Cruelty
~Anne~ replied to samoyedman's topic in Dog Cruelty and Abuse News
In the detail I read, I took it that it was audited several times due to complaints received. Maybe it was more a case of having evidence this time. In the news tonight they said this particular abbatoir was audited 4 times last year and no irregularities were found. It could be a case of one rogue employee doing the wrong thing in that video. Is there evidence animal cruelty is commonplace in Australian slaughterhouses? -

Yes, I'd also considered that. Hence why I'll just stick with buying eggs and not meat. -

www.humanechoice.com.au is the one I need. Thank you!! It has loads of information to enable people to make an informed choice. This will help me when I choose my eggs next. The brand I normally buy is not listed which is frustrating.
