  1. I find it somewhat 'normal' for a rep to advise not to use someone elses products... I use a tea tree oil based shampoo on my staffy. It helps her itchy skin... think the trick here is to not wash once a week! More like wash every 3 or 4.
  2. Oh my gosh Pampa I've only just seen this thread. What a traumatic time for you Are there any side affects with too much Vit K I wonder? Sending good vibes your way. Wish I could do more to help Kylie x
  3. I don't know if there are any pitfalls... only the price of free range as thats all I buy these days I give Shelby a raw egg about twice a month. Sometimes she will get an egg when I've been caught unexpectedly without any food for her. I've heard crushing the shell up is good also...although I've never done this.
  4. **bump** Great thread How much is a dash? No honestly, with a 4 ltr bucket of water, how much ACV should I put in?
  5. I'm now doing all the training at home until Shelby is 100% focussed on me with distractions... I'm glad we didn't socialise cause half of these people had NO IDEA! And thier dogs were like thier owners
  6. Shelby and I passed our beginners class about 3 weeks ago and the one thing I found hard was all the bending. well not so much bending the knees but stretching down to the dog with treat in hand, trying to keep the hand as outstreched as possible. Having a short breed and Shelby is shorter then most staffords I found the back of my knees and my middle back were aching ;) I can't touch my toes at the best of times, so stretching down to do the hand signals was hard. Plus I have a very reluctant dog, she was more interested in the other dogs... :D We weren't allowed to let the dogs interact at all. The trainer said the dogs are here to work, not socialise.
  7. So sorry for your loss Such a cutie RIP sam
  8. well done you two Thanks Rusky Thought I was invisible for a while there
  9. Ok Shelby and I have had success today walking on a flat collar without pulling WITHOUT the HALTI!!!!!! I did the never ever rule...where you never ever walk forward on a tight lead. It took 15minutes to get to the park which is about a 3 minute walk normally... But Shelby soon realised that we go when she stops pulling I praised her every time we moved on loose leash, and stopped on a tight leash. It took us about 5 minutes to come back Yay!!!
  10. NOPE! I use one for my staffy and she still pulls, but not as hard... I mean she isn't choking herself and I'm not being pulled down the street. Take the halti off her and put on her normal collar and she pulls hard, choking all the way. I change direction everytime she pulls, and not walk when she is pulling hard... its slowly working :D If you allow the dog to pull hard, its being rewarded for this by being allowed to continue on. I'm sure others will explain that better. Im just a mere pet owner Good Luck!
  11. HI Inka... Cradle cap is in human babies...and its caused by the dead skin cells (skin flakes) not falling off and then it ends up in a big crusty 'cap' on top of the head. Glad it wasn't anything serious! Kylie
  12. First of all I appoligise for not reading the whole thread.(made it to page 6) Everyone is asking questions relating to their dog and I'm getting lost with all the advice. I have started Shelby in obedience. It doesn't matter how hungry she is. She wont take the food for the first 10-15 mins... but eventually gets into the mood and takes the food. This only lasts for about 10-20mins then she wants nothing more to do with me. Tonight she frustrated the hell out of me. The seagulls where more interesting. And the other dogs/people. How do I work her? She does all the moves at home(heel, sit, sit-stay, heel-stand), this is why its so frustrating when we are at the park. She makes that god awful whinging noise at the other dogs and it eventuates into barking at the other dogs. I asked the trainer if she has high prey drive and she said yes, but we have to get her focused on me... how do I do this? She is very ignorant/stubborn at times(most of the time)and wont look up at me
  13. HOw much bi-carb do you add to the water anniek?? My staffy has successfully killed a large patch of grass and no amount of watering is bringing it back Does it go on weight? She is 20kgs!
  14. Loraine is the tv normally on when Zedley does this strange behaviour? Just wondering because sometimes the tv puts out a signal that we cannot hear, only dogs can hear. And its usually around the same time. the tv show 'braniac' was on the other night and they put out this signal, asked viewers to bring thier dogs in and see what they would do. Shelby just sat there, didn't even prick her ears. She was not phased by it at all. I had a cheap tv once that would make a terrible noise at the same time. Went to a techno guru site and asked why, and the explaination was so complex I didn't understand it, in lamans terms it has something to do with switching signals and that the cheap tv wasn't equipped to muffle the noise.
  15. Phatdex, Shelby does the same whoooing thing after I've been out and my son lets her in (cause she knows she is not allowed in unless I say)... I think its cute, but I don't let her know that. Once she has finished making the noise, then I will recognise her and give her attention. By this time she is usually in a sit and watching me like a hawk. I think its a normal behaviour for staffies, chatty, noisey. I remember Hobbes (ricey's boy) being very vocal and barking for people to talk to him - or was it for the dogs to notice him? Anyway maybe he has some tips for you.
  16. Bump... If I had friends with dogs, I would make them come lol And.. I want what Ricey wants perfect recall no matter what is going on... Cause at home in the back yard she needs to leave the crack in the fence alone and the German Shepherd on the other side...
  17. I'd go both times, regardless of cost. I just want Shelby's probs sorted and a plan of action entered into... Maybe a poll to get the count done Chelseasmum? K9's visit... *Definately go to 1 day *Unsure *Both days for sure *depends on costings ???
  18. I would be there with bells on, for sure. shelby is hypo and needs to learn some manners when around children.
  19. well I just bought one for the first time the other day. shelb's gulped it down, I will keep an eye on her, but she ate her chicken as usual tonight... Thanks for the article!
  20. RIP Tyson Sorry about your loss soniq Vehicles should be banned, to save lives
  21. RIP Nugget Nugget was the staffy my Shelby girl played with. He was laid to rest on Thursday. Run over by his owner... its tragic and very very sad! :D
  22. Thanks poodlefan, We have had no other incidents so far. They rarely play together now that he is at school fulltime and I have banned all play inside. Kylie
  23. She hasn't shown any other signs of aggression towards my son. I have been watching ehr but there hasn't been any other chance for her to growl as I have told my son not to pick her up again... Should I ask him to try again? Have banned her from jumping up on the bed now too.
