  2. I use the furminator on all our dogs except Skye. She is somewhat 'folically challenged'
  3. Oh..and the bald spot on her head has now completely re-covered with a good crop of hair
  4. This photo is about a month old now and it's progressed a little more with the light tan hairs through the flank. On the other hand the coat is also much shinier and healthier now that she has been with us a bit longer as well.
  5. Skye has it as well. She's even sprouting some tan coloured hairs on her flanks too.
  6. Normal levels of corticosteroid are necessary for proper brain function. In humans, excess levels are associated with mood swings and loss of acuity. This probably occurs in our pets as well.
  7. Yes. I have beginner dogs. Although I think the Kelpie is almost up to it now We took one of our JRT's to see the sheep yesterday and the sheep came running and wanted to say hello to him. Thought he would play with them and was one of them, although it was very very cute, I think it is almost time to introduce them to a dog. I might ask one of our more experienced doggie friends to come and do a session with them.
  8. My husband and i have got so excited about herding that we bought our own sheep on the weekend. just 3 of them for now, but we will be adding another 2 early next year. We are now going to start turning the horse arena into the herding penn. We purchased 3 dorper cross whiltshire. 2x wethers and 1 ewe. They are only 4 months old right now, so it will be a little while before we are working them at all,but we need time to set things up anyway so it's perfect for us. only problem is that they are sooooooooooooooooooooooo cute.
  9. I am sooooooooo sorry for you loss. I cans ee you loved her very much. My heart goes out to you. I am outraged by the comments you got from the centres you phoned. Sending you hugs !!!
  10. My ACD has firm poos most of the time and then does one big sloppy one (still formed but soft) at night. I have changed diets and tried most things, it seems it's just her. I think it's mainly because she bolts her dinner down. I already feed her out of a 'go slow' bowl and have done extensive veterinary testing on her stools to find a cause. Seems there is none. She is happy, healthy, shiny coat and gaining weight as she should. She is also very energetic and has no other symptoms so I have stopped worrying about it.
  11. It's common practice for the de-sexing tattoo. This always goes in the left ear. I have been a vet nurse for nearly 10 years and every single patient who was de-sexed was tattoo'ed. I had never heard of the M tattoo, until I rescued our Kelpie from Mildura pound and until I read this thread I thought it was a Mildura pound Tattoo. Great idea though to tattoo for microchipping as chips can migrate easily. Having said this, out of ALL the strays that come into our clinic I have NEVER seen the M before I adopted the Kelpie. So obviously this is not a common thing to do.
  12. newspaper is still working for us
  13. No it's not. NEVER use Panadol for dogs. I would also not give aspirin without a vet's OK first. Echo the post above STRONGLY !!!!
  14. Agreed x2 My Katie was the runt. Now 8 months old and she is still quite small for a pure Heeler. 100% healthy from birth just much smaller than the rest of her litter mates. I don't know if she will catch up or not, but I don't care either. We are not heading in the show ring and she has the BEST personality.
  15. Personally I think it should be LAW to desex unless you are a registered breeder or show. Just my own humble opinion.
  16. She's SUPER sweet. I can't believe someone dumped her. I love my blue fuzz ball, but I have truly fallen in love with Skye too.
  17. My friend is taking the picture of Dash to show his kids tonight. He may be very interested. Will let you know ASAP. Obviously if she finds a perfect home in the meantime that's good news, but I think he's pretty keen to meet her.
  18. We took our two herding today. It is sooo much fun. It was Katies second time and she has grown so confident. she was incredibly 'cautious' on her first day and I thought she would never be confident enogh to do this, but today she turned around completely and went in too hard. She IS a cattle dog, but the trainer assures me she will soften up and get the hang of it all. She's only a puppy and it's only her second time. So we have just backed right off and are just taking it easy and letting her soak in all the info. She had such a good time though, and it was ncie to see her confidence grow, She now is relaxed with all the other dogs around too where as she was very shy the first time. This is Katie: For goodness sakes Katie "DUCK"...work is a long way from here. And we also took our recent Mildura pound rescue Skye. It was her first ever time herding and although she was very cautious as her personality is very soft, she very quickly figured out what she was supposed to be doing and took to it really well. (also only a pup) She will benefit from having another go sooner rather than later (what a shame) Skye was even smart enough to stop and sit when asked to. What a good girl
  19. Thanks Paul, already doing this. She is just a chewer of things undesirable. She has now started eating tan bark from the garden

  21. We're taking Katie and the new Kelpie Skye herding on Sunday at Diggers rest. it will be Skyes first time. Stay tuned for update and pictures.
  22. she's always exhausted by the time she goes to bed. She and our Kelpie run for ages in the back yard each night when we get home and they spend their days in a large dog run playing and digging holes all day long. They get plenty of mental and physical stimulation. We take them on walks, hikes and they go sheep herding. She never does it in front of us. She sleeps in her crate. (as do all our dogs, 4 neat crates lined up in a row) So she must do it at some stage through the night. I never hear anything, she doesn't need to go to the toilet and there is no crying. She also has her indestructable kong and chew toys in the crate with her. Which are well loved and chewed at other times but clearly the bedding wins. She hasn't eaten any newspaper though
  23. Sounds like conjunctivitis to me. Probably need some Tricin and you'll be fine Fingers crossed.
