  1. Just a couple of shots from the wedding, I have lots from the DSLR from this day.
  2. One of the crossings We were walking along and the woman with the thongs whacked the dog with them so hard he yelped. I asked what did the dog to and the girl with me said she didn't know. It seemed very out of the blue! They dropped us off at the side of the road and said goodbye. They were all very nice to us. We had to walk a couple hundred metres back to the resort but the woman walked with us. They left the horses with the kids at their house. 3. We tied up the horses and went by foot One of the dogs that followed us We then had a refreshing swim at this waterfall. I was glad we went there and not the hot springs on this hot day. A few more locals met us there and it was just the two of us with the locals. Us On the ride back we had different people with us.I had a young girl on the back this time. It was very hard to get the horses to go faster than a walk. only had a couple of short trots.
  4. Jamie on his horse, an ex race horse he was told The start of the track It got more and more rocky, very rocky river crossing galore. The horses had battered legs, they do this every day. I felt bad for the horse as I could feel his bones clicking underneath me. I took it easy on him but the boy on the back kicked, yelled at and whipped him constantly. This is when I realised all the horses were stallions - Zeke, the boy, said "oh oh, woah" and then told me we had to wait for the tied up horses on the other side to be moved or the horses will fight. One of them had a massive sore on his withers
  5. This was just before one of the tours we did through the village. The main group were going to the hot springs and Jamie and I were going on a horse ride to a waterfall, we were all supposed to leave together and then split up but we were taken off separately at the start in this little car and didn't really know what was going on! Driving through the village - they were preparing a massive peice of meat and the dogs were waiting nearby! Our horses. Our "tour guides" were two 12 year old boys who sat on the back of the horses. The stirrups were held on by rope, the bridle was rope, reins - rope, girth - not sure I want to know but it was loose as, horses were apparently on kava and were very slow. I knew it would be different to riding at home but I was a little bit shocked by a few things. No helmets, no indemnity forms. Oh, and all the horses were stallions! I asked what was the horses name, the guide said "boy" and I asked what were the dogs names - "boy" Me and my tour guide:
  6. The pool bar, loved it but a lot of screaming kids splashing around. Many people had chlorine in their drinks so I didn't drink in there as often as I had planned! Most the photos that I am actually in are the result of selfies - this one on the way to the scuba lesson Scuba lesson in the pool, first time I have done it and now we want to get our licences! Waiting in the hammock while my husband and his cousin disappeared on kayaks. Couldn't see them anymore and ended up sending out the activity guy to get them as he had the room key in his pocket lol THIS CAT had the life. By night he begged for food at the dinner tables and usually scored some from children. And by day he was on the pool lounges!
  7. The resort pool with swim up bar My husband Jamie - made him stand in the rain to take the photo. It only rained a little bit and it was still hot so it didn't affect what we did. The view of the gardens from the rooms walkway: We ate a LOT of food and it was all really good. Apparently the head chef gets paid $2.50FJ per hour The ever changing dessert table Where we dined the most often
  8. Wasn't sure whether to post this in Off Topic or here, but it will have a lot of photos, so here we go! We just got back last Wednesday from Fiji which was my first trip overseas. We went for seven days and stayed at the Naviti resort. My cousin-in-law got married there on the Saturday so we had a great holiday with a big party in the middle. I am SO glad I bought the Panasonic Lumix FT4 camera just before we went as it was the main camera I used for the whole trip for photos and videos. I was often thinking of how I can't wait to get back to tell DOL all about my holiday and show the photos - how sad is that? lol It took me a few days to sort them all out, I took 1800 photos and videos between the lumix and the DSLR, most of which was on the Lumix while the DSLR stayed in the safe, which is why I'm so glad I got the baby camera. Anyway, onto the tour: Arriving at the resort, everyone greets you with a happy "Bula!": Our room the day we arrived: I had a fair few of these. We had the All Inclusive deal which included all local beer, wine & spirits! We only had to pay for cocktails but they were only $10FJ which is like $6 or $7 AU This is part of the small village next door to the resort, which you were only allowed to go to these few shops without being with a guide. They had cheaper tours which were quite the experience but will cover that later This sort of sight was everywhere and was saddening. They use these dogs for pig hunting. They are about the size of a kelpie. We saw a pregnant/lactating bitch on the road trying to scavenge something on our way from the airport to the resort, but this guy was in the village. The beach at the resort: There were lots of these:
  9. OP, your original question was answered, and then people took the time to give you a lot of important information and advice for your friend. Could you just show your friend this thread? Surely seeing all these experienced people offer the same advice to choose another breeder can't just be ignored? If I were the one buying this pup and saw all this advice, I would be doing more research at the very least. The buyers of these pups are likely in for a lot of heart ache.
  10. We just got an advertising flyer in the mail from one of the brands that make these invisible fences. It says 4 months and up. I think 6 weeks is way too young. Surely they would explore other options first while the pup is so young and if they put in the work, the pup may not try to escape anymore by the time it is 4 months old.
  11. My heart dog was a chihuahua named Mini who was a family dog when I was a teenager. She was killed in front of me by a neighbour's roaming dog. Would be 10 years ago now and it still gets to me sometimes. She was a special dog.
  12. Today I bought the Lumix FT4 in blue :) I also got it on special. The battery is charging now. It looks great and I can't wait to useit. I wouldn't have even heard of this camera if it weren't for dol. Looking through kja's posts and seeing her photos and comments also helped so thank you for directing me to that. Thanks kja for helping without even knowing it lol. The attachments that fit the gopro and other action cams also fit any camera so if I really want to hitch it to something, I still can so that really gave me no reason to need the gopro over the lumix. Can't wait to get to Fiji and hopefully get some decent underwater shots :) You are all awesome!
  13. Thanks for the links! The lumix looks awesome. Only thing I like better about the gopro is how you can attach it to things, would love to out one on a dog lol Does the Lumix take good video? Gopro can go deeper but maybe not as good quality photos underwater?
  14. ooooh just looked at the FT4 and its really cool too!
  15. Well the GoPro is $399 and thats as much as I want to pay. It does 11mega pixel photos and HD video as well. I'd like both so thats good. I tried to search to find some of kja's photos but no luck. I did think of her straight away but do need to make a decision soon unfortunately. Sort of a last minute thought for the trip. We leave on Wednesday but go to Brisbane today. So I could buy one somewhere in Brisbane where I should have more choice
  16. So we are about to go to Fiji and I'd love to have a camera that is safe to use by the pool and to go snorkelling. I'm thinking the GoPro HD Hero2. When I went to look at JB Hifi, they didn't have any but they had a new one called a Muvi. Does anyone know what they are like? Can anyone tell me if the GoPro's are good for underwater. i read that you should get a Dive case if you want decent photos while snorkelling and that costs extra. Has anyone here used one for diving with or without the dive case and how does it go? Their new model (HD Hero3) comes out in November but I need it in the next couple of days. Another option is the Sony Action cam. Anyone used one of those to compare? Thanks in advance for anyone who can give me some tips!
  17. I love them all and would be thrilled if I was your friend and received these, as they are :)
  18. yes, don't see the point if its just to complain about it to other DOLers and have noticed a lot lately.
  19. I'm researching vans now. Does anyone have much experience with the VW caddy? I really like the Mercedes Vitos but they are out of my price range. A Caddy fits the budget but I've heard they are really expensive to fix when they have issues??
  20. You can do it by distance but you need to complete two sets of 8 days of practical training at either Melbourne or the Sunshine Coast. They also have Sydney blocks but I believe that is limited to people who live in Sydney only.
  21. Would you like me to share this on facebook? I'm in contact on there with a lot of people in dog related fields in Qld. I know of someone with orphaned 3 week old pups but they would be too old, I am guessing.
  22. We've lived here for four years and Lola just got out for the first time. Luckily she stayed at our front yard. We thought we found the hole she was getting out of and fixed it but then she got out again. Our border collie meanwhile stays in the yard. So now they are both in the house until we upgrade the whole fence. Glad your dog was found safely, very scary.
  23. If we are so horrible then why are you here??? I am sorry about this venting but I am sick of people joining KNOWING to well what it is like here and how passionate people on here about their dogs and that there are some VERY experienced people on here and some members that have been here since the beginning and then chuck a hissy and insult everyone.. No we do not think we are royalty but people who have more experience then you and have been members FOR A VERY LONG TIME deserve more respect then what they are given. I am new myself only been here since May but I have not started a fight with anyone since being here or got into a heated argument throwing insults around. I am not even fighting with you right now I am stating my opinion about the respect level given to founding members.. Rant finished sorry :) Ridiculous! Whether people have been members here 5 minutes or 5 years, people are entitled to their opinion and to post them unless they are breaking the forum rules IMO Someone could sign up today but have many years of dog related experience, they just haven't been on the forum about it. :)
  24. Sounds like he might enjoy the private space but he may also continue to like sleeping under the table. I think crate training is handy to have in any situation though. When I first started using crates, I was skeptical, but they are so useful. If your dog just needs some quiet time or you need to put them away, for transport purposes and for medical reasons - if there is ever a medical situation and he needs to be rested, it is so useful to already have them crate trained. If you had a crate/kennel in the wintergarden at least he would have a secure sleeping place within his room. Sounds like he might like that :)
  25. I thought Amanda Yates was the local inspector in Bundaberg. She's the inspector that's always pictured and mentioned in the News-Mail for RSPCA stories and has been for the last couple of years at least. Now you mention it the name rings a bell. I think they only put her on in the last 18 months though. I think I remember it being in the paper. Thanks for reminding me :)
