  1. Our desexed female does it very suddenly when she gets a big fright. Everything I read suggested she was emptying her anal glands. There's usually a few drops of gross smelly stuff as well. One of the first times it happened was when my OH gave her a fright at the front door. Another time when I snuck into the back yard in the dark and she suddenly saw me "appear". Poor girl. She's never done it in her sleep though. Ph and she's black and white so we call it the skunk smell. LOL
  2. If theres nothing for me to stress about my brain comes up with something pretty quickly. When brought Chester home I was a wreck over nothing. One minute I was worrying he was going to be neurotic and hyper (he's a BC) and the next minute I was worrying that he was too placid! He's turned out to be stable temperament and no where near as hyper as our little cross bred dog which we already had for 2 years
  3. Yeah, its just not worth it sometimes. I'm always conscious not to sound pushy which is probably why I do get so frustrated. I'm always too worried I'll sound rude or offend someone.
  4. So we went to the markets today for a look. Everyone parks their car at the entrance way which is a big long drive way. When we walk down this entrance way, each side is lined with people selling puppies from their car boots or utes. We kept going and looked around the markets a bit then when it was time to leave we were walking back out and there were three border collie pups for sale. Border Collies are my favourite breed so this is extra hard to walk by. We notice a man there and realise its an aquaintance of ours. He says hi and tells us he has just picked out a puppy. He's so happy he's found this dog because he's a sad and lonely older guy. Now I hate BYBs, puppy farms, anywhere that pups can be bought on impulse and everything that goes with it. All the people who sell puppies at this market just look so dodgy. But I have to admit that it was only a couple of years ago that I also didn't know any better and our first dog was from a produce store selling for a BYB. I've learnt so much since but so many people just don't know, there isn't enough education out there. I only learnt from sitting down and doing my own research. Later on we were driving up the road from our place and see the guy we know who bought the pup. He was walking his friend's dog while the pup was at home. We pulled up to say hi and ask how the puppy is going. He said a few things that suggest that he needs some advice. I offered to do some training with the puppy as I'm studying to become a dog trainer and want as much experience as possible. He didn't seem that interested in anything I had to say. So my question is should I bother? I feel as though I want to tell people things I have learnt but I also don't want to sound like a know-it-all or sound nasty. Especially since I used to be just as ignorant. He said that the "breeder" of his puppy said to contact her when the puppy gets older if he isn't desexed so that she can use him to breed from. I felt like screaming NOOO! but at the same time felt it wasn't really my place. There are just SO MANY people around that don't know about these problems and all the issues that go with it. What do you say to people? Every time I do offer someone advice they shrug it off anyway so why do I waste my breath!!? Another example: while at my local pet supply store some bogans came in and asked if they sell puppies. They said no so the people asked where sells puppies? They said try the markets or the pet shop up the road. To which they asked "Do you know if they have rottweilers in stock?" IN stock? I really had to turn the other way. The shop attentant gave me a look when they walked out which indicated she felt the same way. It gets so frustrating and I'm noticing it more and more lately. But then again I've made my own mistakes so can I really be one to talk?
  5. He said it looks very minor. It would have to be minor because the first two vets that looked at it could see nothing
  6. The vets called me tonight - the more experienced doctor is back today and he has found a very slight sign of fragmented coronoid process on Chester's left elbow. So the xrays are now being sent to a specialist for a recommendation.
  7. Does anyone know of a chiro for dogs in wide bay area qld? I'm in bundaberg which I believe is about 50 years behind anywhere else.
  8. Thank you everyone for your support. Piper I do do clicker training so I'll do some simple tricks with him. Also have meaty bones, pig ears and a kong for him. Hoping all this will help. The hardest part is keeping him away from Lola as he loves to play with her. My crates are on order, hopefully they'll arrive soon! Might get a pen together too.
  9. ITS GOOD NEWS No signs of any problems on the xrays. Although the specialist vet will be double checking when he returns on Tuesday, all the other vets could find nothing. No sign of OCD or similiar. So this means its some kind of sprain or muscle prob and the anti-inflams are working. However Chester will need 3 weeks full rest That is going to be a challenge! Still I am SO releived it was nothing more serious!
  10. Xrays are done but Vet won't discuss results over the phone so a long 3 hour wait now
  11. The kikopup channel on youtube has a how to video on teaching limp. Hope it goes well for you
  12. Thank you dancinbcs, I have sent you a PM, hope that is ok.

Paramore- cant remember song name Thank you!!
  14. My first thought was 'the wet dog shake' sounds like something you get at wendys
  15. I loved this Could I please have the names of the songs? There were a couple in there I really liked. You are obviously a great trainer! I'd take tips from you any day.
  16. So we saw the vet this afternoon. They couldn't feel anything and couldn't see much of the limp as he was only walking. They couldn't gauge whether Chester was pulling back his leg in pain or just because he didn't like it, because he did it with both front legs when they felt them. They said our options are to try anti-inflamatories and rest for a couple of weeks and see how it goes, or go straight to x-rays. Then our usual vet, who is very experienced with this kind of thing, came in from surgery and spoke to us as well. I mentioned I had future plans for Chester to do dog sports and canine freestyle and he said "Then I would definately get x-rays now" because if it is something serious, better to findout early. Also I can't be wondering and stressing for much longer He is thinking possible elbow displaysia. So Chester is getting X-rays on Friday in both front legs. I'm hoping and praying they show nothing. Please, please, can it just be a muscle sprain.... :D Also vet prescribed the anti-inflamatory previcox for the interim.
  17. This is me with Chester, Baby Girl and Lola. Baby Girl (in the middle) is my neighbours dog and the others are mine. Just a fluke shot, couldn't have planned it My sister took the photo
  18. I don't know what the rest of those letters mean and I hope I don't have to find out!
  19. Thank you Tassie. I hope its nothing serious but at the same time, I hope they don't just tell me to keep an eye on it without looking into it. I just ordered some crates today that were on special on catchoftheday.com so if I need to keep him rested that will help. Keeping him still is such a challenge, as you know!
  20. I also grabbed two for $29.90 each and sooo happy because its just what I've been looking for and they're about $60 on ebay (inc postage)
  21. Thanks for that, they look like good ones
  22. Chester, my border collie pup, has gradually developed a limp in his front left leg. When he is just walking around normally you can hardly notice it and when I would point it out, some people couldn't even tell. But when he runs around it must get sore and he limps on it quite obviously. He doesn't hold it off the ground though. I'm really worried what this could be, I've felt it all over and checked the pads of his feet and found nothing and no signs of pain when I'm feeling it. I can't pinpoint a time that the limping started because at first I wasn't even sure if he was limping or not. I'm worried it could be OCD. Chester is 6 months old. Anything else I should be considering? If it were an injury, all I can think of is that maybe its from the front attach harness - it was causing him to walk sideways and pulling up under his armpit so I stopped using it. That was a few weeks ago though. Other than that, he had a small fall when he was 8 weeks old and at the time he yelped once and then limped for a couple of seconds then it was all fine and no more limping. Also I'm not even sure if that was the same leg. I'll have him at the vets in 3.5 hours. Lola and Chester:
  23. I'm in QLD also and under the same laws. You can usually get special approval for a third dog. But I would make sure you get the approval before you get the dog because I have seen plenty of people ordered by Council to have their much loved third dog rehomed. This would be just too heart breaking.
